Chapter 639: 639 Celebration Feast

"Teacher Liu, we can confirm the diagnosis now. Both patients are definitely infected with Coccidioides," Xu Yino excitedly ran to Liu Banxia’s side and shouted loudly.

DING! Strange Pneumonia mission complete.

Task Rating: Perfect. Gained 500 Experience Points, 10 Glory Points + 3 Points.

"Okay, officially inform the ICU to treat with Amphotericin B. Also, notify the parents that the diagnosis is confirmed. The other patient will be hospitalized and treated with oral Ketoconazole. Go on, we’ll eat together when you get back. We’ll have a celebratory feast," Liu Banxia said, nodding with a smile.

Xu Yino nodded her head joyously and ran off at once.

Liu Banxia felt very satisfied. Even though he had strong doubts when he returned, without any laboratory data to support them, he could only wait.

If the patients had been on the brink of death, continuing medication to save their lives would have been risky.

But it was indeed a gamble. If they were saved, all would be well. You’d even receive thanks from the patient’s family. But if not? A medical dispute would almost certainly follow.

Even if not all the blame fell on you, you would still bear some responsibility.

He could finally breathe easy. Even though he’d missed dinner, the wait hadn’t been in vain.

Even though it was just this one young patient with an unclear illness, the case had demanded all their mental energy. The mental strain was immense.

Once Xu Yino returned, Liu Banxia called out, "Brother Wei, I’ll leave the monitoring to you. I’m going to sneak off for a bit and have a hearty meal."

"Go ahead, don’t worry. I can hold the fort," Wei Yuan nodded.

"Hehe, Senior Sister, order whatever you want. Our cafeteria is really good. We’ve worked hard all afternoon, so we have to treat ourselves well," Xu Yino said, smiling.

"Actually, I’m fine with just a quick bite," Shen Bingqian said with a smile.

"That won’t do! ’Man is iron, food is steel.’ Every meal has to be eaten properly," Liu Banxia said, laughing.

"Don’t be polite. You might feel bad ordering too much, but you should at least order one dish. Our cafeteria here is great. Haven’t you noticed? These guys haven’t lost much weight from exhaustion because the food is so good."

"Where is it because the food is good? It’s all because we eat with you! We eat so much at every meal that our appetites have grown without us even realizing it," Xu Yino complained.

"I can testify to that," Li Hao said.

"What’s wrong? Don’t want to eat properly anymore? Then I’ll just make you pay with your meal cards," Liu Banxia said with a straight face.

"How could we? It’s because of you, Teacher Liu, that our lives are so good," Miao Rui said, giggling.

Liu Banxia nodded demurely. "Although your flattery is blatant, I quite enjoy it. Keep it up, I have high hopes for you."

"Liu Yiqing and Su Wenhao, who went first, have already received good reviews. Next, it’s up to you and Xu Yino. If you drop the ball, it doesn’t really matter to me, but you two won’t look good."

Xu Yino glanced at him, feeling annoyed. It was supposed to be a happy day; why did he have to bring up the ICU internship?

Shen Bingqian was very curious listening to this, not understanding what they were discussing. She also found their particularly informal way of interacting hard to comprehend.

It felt too casual to her. This didn’t seem like a hospital at all; rather, it reminded her of freshman year in college, that feeling of being new and somewhat lacking in deference.

"Hey, did you two smell your way here?"

Just as they walked into the cafeteria, Liu Banxia spotted Liu Yiqing and Su Wenhao and called out with a laugh.

"Haha, I missed out on lunch, so I absolutely have to join for dinner," Liu Yiqing replied, laughing.

"Looks like you rested well today, full of fighting spirit! So, where are you planning to go play tomorrow?" Liu Banxia asked casually.

"I’m going to see Qiaoqiao. She’s just at home with nothing to do," Liu Yiqing said, though she didn’t look at Liu Banxia.

Liu Banxia frowned slightly. He didn’t know what Qiaoqiao was planning to get up to with her. Anyway, judging by the current situation, something was definitely up.

But it didn’t matter much. Qiaoqiao could be a bit playful sometimes, but she wouldn’t drag Liu Yiqing into doing anything too out of line.

As for his darling wife, she really did get bored easily. Now that Tang Dou was pregnant, besides managing Langtaosha and Jinbao, she didn’t have much else to do.

He missed his wife too. He had taken quite a bit of leave before, so now he had to hold down the fort at the emergency center. He’d thought he could spend some proper time with her this afternoon, but then he got worried about the young patient, and time became rushed.

Xu Yino and the others showed no restraint at all, each ordering their favorite dishes.

Zhou Qiang was also very considerate, sending over two cold dishes.

"Let me say, Xu Yino performed very well today. Coming up with such a method of collaborative search was brilliant. Otherwise, if we had to figure it out ourselves, who knows how long it would have taken to diagnose the child," Liu Banxia said.

"So you all must work hard. This girl has been very tenacious lately. You all need to step it up. This kind of divergent thinking is very good."

"Teacher Liu, please don’t praise me for this. Actually, I only made the connection because of that African Trypanosomiasis patient we diagnosed before. But mostly, I was just guessing blindly," Xu Yino said.

"As for the collaborative search with other students, that was nothing special. Didn’t the director call later? That was much more effective than anything I said."

"That’s still a contribution," Liu Banxia nodded.

"It’s good not to be arrogant about one’s achievements, but praise is due where praise is earned. Currently, the ones still a bit quiet are you three: Huang Bo, Li Hao, and Miao Rui. The work ahead is very challenging."

"Teacher Liu, isn’t it just that it hasn’t been our turn yet? Um, are you saying this because you feel bad about paying for this meal?" Huang Bo asked helplessly.

"Are you kidding? Qiaoqiao even gave me spending money before she left today," Liu Banxia said.

"Teacher Liu, is that right? Aren’t you financially independent?" Miao Rui asked curiously.

"Well, it’s just that Qiaoqiao wanted to experience managing the money. She said I should transfer it to her card first, and then she’ll decide how much to give me based on her mood," Liu Banxia said helplessly. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Oh dear... why are you asking about this? Hurry up and eat! You all can eat slowly here, but I have to go back to the emergency center to keep an eye on things after I finish."

The interns found this hilarious. Liu Banxia had once proclaimed that he spent however much money he had, and occasionally Qiaoqiao would even give him pocket money; he was truly financially independent.

Serves him right, doesn’t it? Now Qiaoqiao held all the financial power.

Actually, they all knew that neither of them really cared about this. After all, most of Liu Banxia’s monthly expenses were for meals like these here.

As they were eating, Liu Banxia’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID. "You guys eat first. It’s Qiaoqiao. I’ll take this on the side."

With that, he grabbed his phone and a pork trotter and scampered off to the side.

If Shen Bingqian hadn’t been there, he wouldn’t have cared one bit. But with an outsider present today, what if his darling wife said something outrageous?

"Nuonuo, are you all always like this with each other?" Shen Bingqian asked curiously.

"Yes, Senior Sister, don’t feel burdened. Teacher Liu and his wife, Qiaoqiao, are both very nice. Qiaoqiao’s family is wealthy too. Sometimes, when Teacher Liu has money he doesn’t know how to spend, he treats us to better meals," Xu Yino said with a smile.

"So, what does Dr. Liu usually manage? His scope of work seems to go beyond that of a chief resident, doesn’t it?" Shen Bingqian asked further.

"That’s for sure. Besides handling some chief resident duties, Teacher Liu also gets involved in other work around the emergency center."

"After all, we don’t have a formal leadership team yet, just a director. In a while, things should settle down, and we should get positions like deputy director and office manager filled."

"Actually, I wish Teacher Liu would manage fewer other things so he could focus on surgery. The number of surgeries we get to participate in has dropped significantly compared to before. Thankfully, we can still assist Director Zhou."

"Director Zhou?" Shen Bingqian asked.

"Yes. As long as we apply in advance according to the surgical schedule, if there isn’t a major conflict, we can join the surgery. But whether we actually get a chance to operate depends on the situation at the time," Xu Yino said.

"Once the new interns arrive, our opportunities will lessen, so then we’ll have to stick close to Teacher Liu. He performs many surgeries, so by rotation, we should get a chance."

"It’s just that he can be erratic sometimes, and the pressure of assisting him in surgery is immense. He won’t have you do procedures you’re skilled at; he believes that doesn’t serve as training. He’ll only let you practice your weak points."

Shen Bingqian felt quite moved. Her position was similar to Liu Banxia’s, but the difference between them was truly vast.

Putting other things aside, for a chief resident to be so effective in all parts of the emergency center was, in itself, a demonstration of capability.

To achieve such a standard, one either needed a very powerful background, so everyone would give you face, or one needed genuine ability. After all, this was a hospital, and medical skill was a crucial factor.

"What are you all talking about? Hurry up and eat; the food’s getting cold," Liu Banxia said as he walked back over.

"Teacher Liu, what did Qiaoqiao say to you?" Liu Yiqing asked.

"What else could she say? Just that you’re all going out together tomorrow," Liu Banxia said.

"Also, keep an eye on her. She can get a bit carried away sometimes when she’s excited. It seems she’s also planning to pick out a ’birthing suite’ for Tang Dou. Anyway, just don’t let her buy things recklessly."

Liu Yiqing nodded, then lowered her head and dug into her food.

Liu Banxia glanced at her curiously. Something was definitely up with this girl. Could Qiaoqiao be playing matchmaker for her?
