Chapter 328: Face-Off (1)

The group of less than a dozen when they first arrived quickly expanded, and they were followed by several elites of the empire forces. The situation on the front lines had become so intense that the empire’s offensive became even more aggressive.

The front line had to do their best to distract the organization’s forces as well as the leader, most importantly him.

As time passed and their position gradually approached the center, or where possibly the leader was, Arren’s attention became so preoccupied that he didn’t even have the time to observe his surroundings.

All that he could do was follow Spade and the others. Arren was even more focused on calming himself than thinking of anything else. Clenching his fist, he mustered all of his courage and stopped himself from trembling.

The fear, the despair... They were slowly rising and trying to consume him again. Arren’s footsteps also became heavier, and so did his breathing. Sweat began to appear on his forehead while he swallowed the forming lump in his throat.

Soon, he clasped his hands together, and as he looked at them, Arren only realized that they were trembling. He was trembling.

Arren didn’t even feel it, or his mind was too distracted by forcing himself to walk in the direction that his body was firmly rejecting. He breathed hard and gritted his teeth to follow, fighting the impulse to escape.

No, I’m tired of escaping. I won’t do that anymore. I will overcome this demon.

Thinking of his resolve, of the people that further solidified this determination, and of the reliable back of someone he loved, Arren continued on his steps, ignoring how uncooperative his body was.

Arren’s eyes widened slightly, and his gaze focused on Spade. At some point, a familiar scent lingered in his nose. And it wasn’t a simple smell, but something that even calmed his nerves and let the suffocating emotions dissipate a bit.

Alpha...

Arren muttered in his mind.

Spade subtly surrounded his pheromones around Arren, and while the amount was minuscule, it was enough for Arren to calm down. With Spade’s control of his pheromones, Arren was the only one who could perceive it.

Usually, Spade’s pheromones as a dominant alpha were oppressive and suffocating, enough for other alphas to feel repulsed and submit. Yet, this pheromone was so gentle, lacking any dominant element at all.

It was indeed a pheromone scent unique to calm his omega.

Spade... Even if he wasn’t looking at Arren, Spade seemed to sense something was going on with him. This only showed how much he paid attention to Arren.

Arren inhaled and let the pheromones surround him. Thanks to this, he managed to endure the rising fear and the memories of succumbing to his will.

However, no matter how strong his will and resolve were, it wouldn’t be enough to calm the deep-rooted fear once he finally saw the monster that had tormented him for a long time.

Along the way, their disguise could still be used, but as they approached deeper into the headquarters, it became useless. Of course, it wasn’t that Spade was relying on this disguise in the first place.

That was the time when they used force, and the fight between the two forces continued. Fortunately, the organization’s forces were more concentrated on the battlefield, which was part of their plan, as they only came across a few agent squads.

It wasn’t also a problem at all, and they easily passed any obstacles in their way and subdued anyone that went in their way. It was not difficult, but troublesome.

Since, they were fighting with time, any moment could ruin any plans they had. Or worse, the leader escaped before they arrived.

Fortunately, that didn’t happen. Spade also knew that it wouldn’t happen. Anyone could escape, but not the leader. They already fought once, and Spade knew his personality the most. freewёbnoνel.com

The Marquis would never escape as a loser. When he infiltrated the palace and had a fight with Spade, he had the chance to escape, but he didn’t; he fought until his death.

Or perhaps because he knew that escaping also wouldn’t mean he would survive; in the world where the empire stood, there wasn’t any place for him to live. It wasn’t possible for them to live under the sky, they were both aware of it.

It was to win and welcome the new world or die as a loser. It was the same for Spade. They fought with their lives on the line.

The Marquis was a lunatic, and he knew that. Spade was certain that the leader wouldn’t escape.

And still, as they finally became face-to-face, Spade only wished that he had already escaped.

The man stood in front of a huge monitor, looking at the situation in every corner of the headquarters. His demeanor remained calm, as though everything was under his control.

Slowly, he turned around and looked at the newcomer as he welcomed them with a smile on his face.

"You’re finally here... Your Majesty, and..." His eyes then landed on someone before it flashed with unimaginable greed, "Arren."

As soon as those words were uttered, a huge pressure suddenly descended upon the room as both sides’ forces that were there pointed guns at each other.

"How dare you utter his name?" A voice filled with seething rage reverberated, it was obvious that any minute now the owner of the voice would explode.

It wasn’t only him who was affected, but even more so the owner of that name.

Arren felt that his whole body shook, and he suddenly couldn’t breathe. His hearing seemed to also be gone for a moment before a buzzing sound overtook his ears.

His brows furrowed as he subconsciously took a step back, Arren’s gaze fell on the man in front, who was smiling and looking at him with a very familiar gaze.

He wanted to evade his eyes, and yet he also couldn’t leave his gaze off of him at the same time. No, rather than not wanting to leave his eyes off him, his body seemed to stop responding to his brain, or his mind had already turned off right there and then.

Arren was still confident in his resolve, but the moment he saw him, the memories seemed to come back in an instant.

Those eyes, which didn’t hide the malice, greed, and lust, were still the same as those in his memory.

Suddenly, he wanted to vomit.

Arren’s whole being was shaking from fear that a small whimper suddenly escaped from his mouth, he couldn’t stop it. His mind was already submerged by the dark and filthy memories.

He had never seen the Marquis’ face in this lifetime, yet it was engraved in his mind.

Thinking of that banquet before, when he fainted from hearing his voice alone, Arren finally realized just how much this monster terrified him.

As he heard that voice call him, it was as though something in his memories was triggered as they came flooding and submerging him.

"Arren... You’re Mine... This is your fate..."

No... That’s not true. I’m not...

No, he felt like he was about to be drowned in these memories. Arren couldn’t breathe, please... Someone should save him.

And unlike in the past, salvation came. It was late, but he came.

Arren’s vision suddenly turned dark as someone covered his eyes, stopping him from looking at the Marquis as he was buried in someone’s chest. A hand soothed his back and kissed his head countless times.

"I’m here, Arren, my omega..."

His voice, like how he was saved from his darkest nightmares in this lifetime, woke him again.
