Chapter 287: Arren’s Adventures (1)

When Arren climbed out of the sewers, he was already aware that what he would be seeing was an abandoned playground, but he still chose to be cautious. Only after he made sure he couldn’t hear any sounds in his vicinity did he open the lid and reveal himself.

As he sat on the ground, Arren exhaled heavily, but there was now a slight sense of relief within him. He allowed himself to relax for a while; after all, he was too tense earlier, and he deserved these seconds of calm.

Not even a minute later, he had already composed himself, putting the almost worn-off lid back in its place. He didn’t dare linger in the place, and he quickly left the area.

Although he had the assurance that even if his disappearance was discovered, they would not immediately know where he was. At least, their best course of action was to find Arren in the mansion first, as they didn’t know that he would have knowledge of any hidden paths there.

This was also a time when he needed to plan how he would leave the city.

Arren looked around and pursed his lips. He had no intention of going into a place with crowded people. It wasn’t because he wasn’t in his most presentable state, that wasn’t the biggest issue.

He was someone that most of the citizens of the empire might recognize if they saw him outside; even those not completely aware of royal affairs still had a chance of seeing his face once, may it be on the news or social media.

Even if there weren’t, Arren would still assume that anyone could recognize him. This was for his own safety. Normally, this would certainly be to his advantage, especially if he was lost. He could just ask anyone, and no one would be indifferent to the prospect of owing a noble a favor, much less the emperor’s lover.

The problem was, he wasn’t merely lost; he was kidnapped, and he was on the possible turf of the enemy no less. He couldn’t just use his face or status as insurance. He wasn’t on guard for the citizens, as it would be impossible for all of them to be part of the organization, but for the forces in the dark.

The Kingdom of West was nominally a part of the empire, but they had their own king and autonomy. Arren wasn’t sure if the king had already been corrupted by the organization, but as much as possible, Arren didn’t want his presence to be known unless he was certain of his safety.

Now, the biggest problem for him was... Arren bit his lips and sat under the tree. Earlier, he didn’t care that much, but as he was already on the surface, the pungent smell coming from himself was also making him disgusted.

He scrunched his nose and looked at his feet and his damp clothes. Arren was truly gross at this moment. In fact, he also doubts that someone would believe him if he told someone he was Arren.

At this moment, Arren really looked like a beggar who was dirtier than usual. How should he proceed from here? Arren began to ponder his next course of action.

Usually, Arren would go with the flow, and he rarely made concrete plans. The matter now was different. Arren couldn’t afford to fail. He had to escape, no matter what. He couldn’t just wait for Spade to save him; otherwise...

No, he shook his head. Arren threw away the unnecessary thoughts once more. This was not the time to recall those depressing memories.

After a while, Arren stood up from where he sat. The first thing he needs to do... become as inconspicuous as he could. Since he had nothing on him and didn’t have his phone or even his wallet, Arren would linger in this city for quite a while.

Wandering like a beggar... Arren could tolerate it. However, he admitted that if one overlooked his dirty clothes and the pungent smell that his body emitted, Arren’s appearance would still stand out.

It wasn’t like his face was dirty or anything. Not to mention... Arren sighed. He didn’t know that his hobby of dyeing his hair would be a burden to him at this moment.

His pink hair was so eye-catching! Those bastards weren’t dumb, and once they saw his hair... They would pursue him to the end of hell.

"Swimming in a dumpster... It’s quite a new experience," Arren muttered, and without hesitation, he started to find a place with such a huge garbage dump.

Fortunately, he discovered one quickly. The city had a perfect segregation system, and Arren didn’t have a hard time finding a used hat in the garbage. Even if he said that he would be swimming in a dumpster, that was just an exaggeration.

There wasn’t only him in that dumpster, as there were some beggars there at the same time. And those jobs involved collecting garbage in good condition to sell, especially clothes, shoes, or bags.

His appearance there wasn’t new, and in fact, the beggars and the garbage divers appeared harmonious as they sorted the garbage according to what they needed.

"Another one," someone whispered.

"Ugh, this one smells like shit!" a man hissed annoyingly, and he took a step away from Arren while grumbling.

Arren frowned, but he knew that his smell wasn’t really good, so he only shrugged. He was also a bit embarrassed about it, but what could he do? He really came from the sewers with floating shits and all. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

No one wanted to keep close to him because of his smell. In a way, Arren wasn’t even mad about it, instead, he thought that it was a good thing.

At least no one would look at his face, and he could search for what he needed peacefully. The first was a change of clothes. There were public restrooms he could use to change and also take a bath.

He wasn’t really that comfortable being so dirty, and it wouldn’t be long before he suffocated himself with his own smell. He could still act like a beggar without this disgusting smell.

Aside from a bucket hat that was still in good condition, he only chose a shirt and faded pants. He still had his slippers on, so he didn’t need shoes.

As he was pleased after getting what he needed, someone spoke to him. Arren hurriedly put his hat on his head; it perfectly fit on his head, covering his dyed hair.

There was a kind laughter beside him.

"You’re new here, no?" Her voice was a bit rough, but there was still a gentle nature to it. When Arren lifted his head, he met the speaker’s eyes.

She was a woman who looked to be in her late fifties. There were a significant number of wrinkles in her eyes, but they were still so bright.

Arren didn’t answer immediately and only clutched the clothes he found.

The woman sighed and looked at Arren with sympathy... ah no, it was accurate to say, empathy.

"Child, it’s really hard to live in a big city," she added.

Arren pursed his lips and decided to reply. "Why... Do you say that?"

Also, he agreed with her. However, Arren couldn’t say he understood her. After all, he never really experienced hardships in all of his lifetimes. He was accustomed to living in a city, and he never felt it was hard, but... From the people in the bottom rung, their experiences were incomparable.
