Chapter 284: This Life And The Next... We’re Together (4)
T/W: Death, Fire
***
Who would have thought that it only took a moment before all things changed?
The day was not even a remarkable one, even if it was Ramon’s birthday. Arren had only thought of visiting for a moment and perhaps drinking one or two glasses to give Ramon a face as the birthday boy.
And he was also at ease; he had a lot of bodyguards with him. Another thing was that Arren had never been in a threatening situation; no one would even dare provoke him. Arren also had no enemies, so he was not on guard at all.
Yet, before he noticed it, his body was heating up already, and a sign of his heat arrived. Arren knew right there and then that he was drugged. He was furious at first, but his mind only wanted to call for his bodyguards.
However, a conspiracy had already been set. It didn’t even take long; the place became chaotic at once. Gunshots rang from all over the place, and Arren couldn’t think of anything else as he was on his way to the restroom then, a few individuals blocked him.
One thing he knew: he was injected with a drug again and carried somewhere. That was truly the start of his nightmare.
This was a huge event that shattered the peace of the empire. The emperor’s lover was kidnapped, and not only that, but the bar they were in suffered huge casualties; from royal guards to the nobles, no one was spared.
Even those who survived were in critical condition.
Spade almost went crazy that day; for a whole day, no one could even talk to him as he raged all over the palace. The next day, personally set out to investigate.
And the bits of truth began to emerge before his eyes. A massive organization that had been hiding for years, Spade set his eyes filled with madness on them.
The search for Arren never stopped, and there was no clue. Spade and the Duke searched for all the clues from that bloody year, which had a huge chance of being involved in the recent events.
That was when Spade learned of Rave’s existence. He helped him behind the scenes through Levin. There was urgency in his heart because of Arren, but without clues, no matter how much he searched, it was futile.
A couple of months had passed, and Spade had become irritable and rarely seen in public. He buried himself in the investigation, and he almost never slept. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
Until that day he never thought he would see Arren again. It was an unexpected situation; Spade even thought he was dreaming. However, as he embraced his omega, the person he loved the most, in his arms, he knew he wasn’t dreaming because it was a nightmare.
The bloody image of his lover was all that he could see. Spade’s head was throbbing, and he almost screamed, but his hold on Arren was still as gentle as he always had been.
"I... finally see... you."
"Ah... how?" Spade’s tears began to trickle down his cheeks; he began to tremble, his mind was having trouble accepting this reality.
Arren was almost lifeless in his arms; there were a lot of wounds, and his injuries were beyond saving at this point. Still, even with how heavy his eyelids were, Arren tried not to close his eyes and stared at Spade, as though it would be his last time.
He smiled; it didn’t reach his eyes, and there was blood on his face, but it was almost as sweet as when he smiled before.
"I... love..." Arren choked on his blood, and Spade was so scared that his fingers trembled and he wiped the blood on the corner of his lips.
"D-Don’t... please... Arren, don’t..." Spade was sobbing so hard, he could sense it. Arren’s life was fading so fast, and he would leave him. "Anyone there! Please!" He shouted in anguish, but no one could save Arren anymore.
Arren weakly smiled; his body was so weak, his eyelids were too heavy, and his lips were what he could only move with difficulty.
"S-Spade," Arren called the alpha’s name, "I... am your... omega." He wanted to say this. He was sullied; he was disgusting, but... Arren had always been Spade’s omega.
Spade continued to sob, his tears trickling down on Arren’s face, and their tears mixed together. He nodded. "Yes... and will a-always be."
Arren smiled amidst his tears, seemingly satisfied with Spade’s answer. He still wanted to have a closer look at Spade’s face, but his eyes couldn’t take it anymore.
And he shut his eyes, and soon his breath faded at the same time as Spade’s devastating roar echoed in the room. He called for Arren’s name, but the omega in his arms didn’t move.
"He’s gone..." a sweet voice of a woman resounded. Spade was so preoccupied with Arren’s death that he ignored it.
This was when everyone arrived and saw this scene. Spade lifted his head, his lifeless eyes filed with tears sweeping with everyone, and in the corner, a familiar silhouette had just left.
It was... Princess Noreen.
Soon, the Duke had also arrived, and upon seeing his son’s body, he collapsed right there and then. The Duke had even fallen into a coma for a few days after suffering from a heart attack, and when he woke up, he was finding his child and saying he needed to fetch him from school. He also said that Arren was only five and needed his attention the most.
This went on for a few weeks, which the doctors claimed was the Duke’s way of escaping from reality. Spade was no better; his hallucinations, which he suppressed for weeks, had surfaced, and he never denied them any longer.
If he could see Arren, then... He would succumb to this.
Arren had not been given a public burial, and everything was settled behind closed doors. The investigation also had not stopped and even intensified.
Spade’s actions behind the scenes became more brutal, and any spies were not tolerated. The war between them had finally started, and he had nothing to lose. Spade would go all out.
Using Rave, Spade made considerable leads and finally revealed all the truths. Levin fell into a difficult situation, eventually choosing Spade’s side, but Spade had grown cold toward him, venting his anger every chance he got.
However, he was not isolated or hurt physically. In a way, Spade still trusted him. The chaos had spread in the empire and on the continent.
Spade had been waiting for this. A lot had been sacrificed, including Duke Katz, Arren’s father. His attempt to kill the leader was unsuccessful, but he managed to blow up the organization’s headquarters, including the cursed drug that had been at the root of all this.
The capital was in chaos; berserk alphas and even betas were everywhere. The destruction seemed imminent.
Spade stood at the foot of the palace; his eyes showed no signs of emotion as he looked at the headless figure of the Marquis. All his madness seemed to be consumed, and it was already exhausted.
He took a step until, unknowingly, he was already in the garden. A place he also treasured, with all the memories of their past. Spade stared at it; the fire was also spreading from where he was, but he didn’t move.
Slowly, Spade’s tears fell, and he sobbed. This was the first time again that he cried after he broke down when Arren died in his arms.
His hallucinations had also become serious over the past few months. Only in this way could he see Arren, the only person he had loved. Spade seemed to watch the years that had gone by as he was slowly being engulfed by the fire.
He then looked up and shut his eyes.
"If there’s a next life... I’m sure we’re still together."
Soon, Spade became shrouded in fire; his wish had been scattered into the air with his ashes.
The obsession of the past life... Could it indeed be passed down to reincarnation? No, it was accurate to say... He only returned to fulfill it.
Spade’s wish had been accepted by fate, and so... Arren was destined to return as well.
