The Emperor's Omega Is An Extra-Chapter 261: Initial History (3)
Chapter 261: Initial History (3)
Arren’s interest in his crush, the emperor, made him more curious about the state of the empire. Well, at least he wanted to know more about the emperor the most rather than the empire.
When he came home a few days later, he began to search for any interviews or even photos of the emperor. However, he found out that the new Emperor didn’t have many public interviews yet, and some of the speeches were formal events where the media couldn’t easily access them.
There were also a pitiful number of photos circulating on the internet, and Arren was unable to find more. It did make sense; after all, the monarch was a figure everyone respected in the empire and not some kind of normal celebrity.
Afterward, Arren also began to search for any rumors, like dating rumors around the emperor. Similarly, he didn’t find any. Some were just speculations from the general public, such as who was fit to be an empress based on popularity, status, or even appearance.
That was normal, as the rumors about the nobilities weren’t that different from celebrity rumors.
Like that, days passed. Arren still maintained his overall day-to-day life while also having another hobby, being updated on the recent public schedule of the emperor. It wasn’t much, though, but it was enough for the current him. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Of course, Arren wasn’t an ordinary ’celebrity chaser’ either; he had the status and connection to meet the one he admired. He was too thankful for this.
"Do you want to come with me to the palace?" The Duke inquired with a bit of disbelief in his tone.
"Yes, Dad. I want to visit the palace," Arren answered with a smile. Of course, his intention was only known to him.
"But it’s summer vacation."
"I know, Dad. I don’t have plans to take a vacation." Arren already declined his friends. What was more important than seeing his crush? He could take a vacation whenever he wanted to anyway.
The Duke observed him deeply, as though pondering what was going on with his son. He didn’t see anything amiss, so he agreed. It was also better for his son to be with him, as he would worry if he was out of the capital.
Arren easily got permission from his father, and he accompanied him to the palace. Along the way, he couldn’t help but get nervous and excited. Meeting the emperor was difficult, even though they were technically in the same place.
Even his father, without formal reason, couldn’t meet the emperor, so Arren couldn’t demand his dad ask for an audience with him, which might even expose his innocent feelings to his father instead.
As expected, for the first few days, he was disappointed since he was unable to see the emperor’s face. During his summer vacation, he was determined to always visit the palace.
Of course, his father didn’t usually come to the palace, but during the days that he did, he made sure he tangled along. Eventually, the Duke got used to it and took the initiative to tell Arren his intention to visit the palace.
One time, Arren successfully met the Emperor with his dad, and they happened to have lunch together with him.
Arren, who was silent more than usual, even though the Duke was not accustomed to it, noted to himself to behave as much as possible. He also made sure his dining etiquette was perfect. Arren didn’t want the emperor to have a bad impression of him.
"Your Majesty, this is my son. You already met him at the banquet last time." His father consciously introduced him to the emperor while they were at the table and the food was being prepared for them.
As usual, the emperor was in the head seat, and on his right side was the Duke with Arren next to him. They were even closer this time than that night.
When his father introduced him, the emperor’s deep gaze immediately landed on him. Arren clasped his hands under the table. He was a bit anxious. The moment that the emperor’s attention was fixed on him, his mind seemed to blank out.
Was he supposed to greet him and introduce himself? What to do?
Fortunately, the emperor saved him and pulled him out of his daze.
"Mm, his name is... Arren, right?" The emperor’s composed and deep voice reached his ears; the way the emperor spoke his name made him scream internally.
How in the world was his name so beautiful when it rolled on his tongue? Arren didn’t care if it was only his own delusion.
He smiled shyly and bowed his head slightly.
"Yes, Your Majesty." Arren paused and lifted his head as he looked at the emperor’s eyes directly, his lips curving into a bright smile. "My name is Arren Katz, Your Majesty." His tone was especially gentle and respectful. Arren also didn’t conceal his admiration in the slightest in his voice.
The emperor stared at him deeply, as if amused. He raised a brow and smiled while he shifted his gaze again to the Duke.
"You have a good son, Duke."
Being complimented even more about his son, the Duke’s smile was all throughout the heavens, and he laughed.
"You’re right, Your Majesty. My son is truly someone I’m so proud of."
Arren could only stare at the emperor, not having the time to talk with him. His position, even as a son of the Duke, didn’t really qualify him to talk with the emperor.
And he also didn’t know what he would say. Starting a nonsense conversation might even irritate the emperor. However, Arren was also satisfied to eat together with the emperor again.
It offset more of his disappointment. This time was, in itself, an opportunity. They didn’t talk much while eating; sometimes Arren would peek and glance at the emperor, and he was caught, but he would only smile innocently, not being embarrassed at all.
After their lunch, Arren gripped his shirt and exhaled deeply. As his father was talking with the emperor, he intervened.
"Your Majesty..." Arren spoke, not confident. His father and the emperor looked at him almost simultaneously.
"Son?"
The Emperor didn’t say anything but looked at him, motioning with his eyes to continue. Arren swallowed nervously, hardening himself. He opened his mouth and spoke again.
"C-Can I... visit the palace again, Your Majesty?"
This didn’t really need permission from him; Arren could always visit the palace whenever he wanted, as long as his father was around. There was a deeper meaning in his words, although he was ashamed to say it out loud.
What he wanted to ask was... if he could visit the emperor again.
The Emperor’s brow rose once more, and in his gaze, Arren felt exceptionally exposed, as though the Emperor could read what was on his mind. Yet he didn’t avert his gaze and bravely met his intimidating gaze.
This time, the emperor nodded. "You can."
His answer was short and almost indifferent, as he also nodded to the Duke before he left the dining hall.
Arren chased him with his eyes; the echo of his heartbeat was the only one he could hear.
Was that permission to visit him again? Arren wasn’t sure. What was on his mind at the moment was...
The emperor sure is so cool!
