The Editor Is An Extra-Chapter 81: Someone else’s mercy.
After spending the entire day learning to fly, both Damon and Dion came back to the dorms, before they parted, and each made way for their dorm buildings.
Damon visited the cafeteria, and snagged a meal, before he finally went up to his dorm room.
"Whew, today was quite entertaining." he muttered and closed the door behind him. He walked over to the couch, and slouched towards it, but suddenly froze just before he came in contact with it.
Damon’s sword instantly appeared in his waiting hand, and in one seamless motion, he swung the sword at the space behind him with dire force.
But the sword just passed through the space with no obstruction whatsoever, sending a gust of air billowing the curtains.
"Well well, it seems your senses are still as dull as ever. Rose only took two seconds to sense..." Emmet’s form shimmered beside Damon, but before he could finish speaking, Damon swung his sword at the neck of the older man.
"Tsk." Emmett effortlessly sidestepped it. "Violent now, are we little Damon?"
Damon scowled.
"What are you doing here?" He asked pointing the sword at Emmett’s neck.
’Why would this bastard come here?’ Damon thought. Perhaps he had some sort of agenda? Damon almost laughed at himself. Who was he kidding? Of course it had to do with some sort of agenda. Emmett never did anything without there being a goal to achieve.
If Emmett opened his mouth, there was a goal to achieve. If Emmett went to the toilet, there was a goal to achieve, hell if Emmett blinked, there’s always a goal to achieve.
Which was why Damon was confused on why the sly bastard would come to him. ’And did he mention going to Rose also?’ Damon thought.
"Why, can’t a big brother come to visit his little siblings?" Emmett tilted his head, only to grin at the amusing shift of expressions that ranged from frustration, to anger, to hatred on Damon’s face.
Oh, how he reveled in that. It was a feast for his eyes.
Emmett for his part, came to first year’s campus for one thing. To silently eliminate Anastasia Necron, and Damon himself if possible. After all, he couldn’t let them to continuing damaging all the timelines that he knew now could he? What better way to fix it than to send them on their way?
He would have left it to some of his underlings, but he couldn’t be sure that they wouldn’t be sloppy, or they might even get caught. Though, even if they did get caught, there was nothing that could lead back to him, even if their memories were to be searched. After all, he had made sure of that. But what he really wanted was for the matter to end today.
Plus there was a saying; If you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Not to mention the immense satisfaction of watching the life getting drained from them. Oh, he relished that part the most.
But let’s just say he got a bit carried away trying to play ghost on Rose, and by the time he went to find the redhead, she had apparently gone out for a mission. ’No matter.’ he had thought.
It was even better that she was outside. Surely a few Theta ranked aetherials would be able to finish the job. And if that didn’t work, he would consider sending a Zeta ranked aetherial.
With those thoughts, he made his way to his second target today, Damon.
"Do you think I’m stupid?" Damon scowled at the answer Emmett had given him.
"You’re right." Emmett’s baritone voice took a sinister turn. "I came here for no other reason than to kill you." He said, a mad glint passing through his eyes, as his immense aura and presence bore down on Damon.
Damon paled.
Fear. It was one of the emotions Damon had felt throughout both lives. But if one were to ask him what was the moment he felt the most immense fear and dread, his answer wouldn’t be when he died, or when he found himself in another body.
His answer wouldn’t be when he got deposited into the Ashen Deadlands. It also wouldn’t be when he encountered ancient horrors in there. Instead it would be right now, with this man –if even he could be called a man– looking down at him.
All Damon could feel was dread shrouding him from every direction. It felt like there was nothing he could do to escape this mad being before him. He couldn’t breath, it felt like he was being suffocated even though he wasn’t.
’I will die..’
’There’s... there’s no way out.’
’~This is the end~.’
Damon saw himself die in many different ways. Sometimes his head was cut off, sometimes his heart was pierced through, and most times, he was dismembered in blood and gore.
But just when the suffocation had reached it’s limits, Emmett suddenly smiled.
Pat!
"What’s with that pale expression?" Emmett said patting Damon shoulder. "I’m kidding. You really didn’t think I was going to kill you, did you?" He smiled.
Emmett had thought about it, maybe it wasn’t wise to just eliminate Damon outright, after all, out of the two, it was only Damon who was showing abnormalities and odd behavior compared to before.
It would be a waste to not figure out what triggered that change. As for the redhead? she didn’t show any different mannerisms than what Emmett had seen in the past iterations, so, she still had to go. She wasn’t a mystery he wanted to solve like Damon.
"Ah, forgive my manners, after all, it isn’t my goal to scare you like that." Emmett smiled. "See you brother, no need to see me off, oh and make sure not to disappoint me." Emmett muttered almost to himself as his figure shimmered and disappeared.
The moment Emmett left, Damon’s form crumpled, gasping for breath.
"I swear I’ll kill that son of a bitch." he cursed. ’Maybe not today, or tomorrow, or even in a few years, but one day.’ Damon promised himself. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Once the lingering fear from Emmett’s presence completely faded from Damon’s system, what followed next was anger. Pure unadulterated anger.
First at Emmett, and most of all, at himself. Anger at himself that he couldn’t even breath in Emmett’s presence, let alone move a muscle. Anger at himself that fear clouded his being so much that it affected his reflections at the training hall, which made him unable to swap away. If Emmett had truly wanted to kill him there, he would have been dead ten times over.
That thought alone filled him with an anger that he himself didn’t know he possessed. Being at someone else’s mercy.
"It seems I have been too laid back and easy going lately." he muttered to himself as he got up the floor. It also seemed that he had started to forget the shit this world was in for.
With a thought, he swapped with one of the reflections in the training hall. This encounter with Emmett only fueled his need to grow stronger.
He sat in front of the reflection, while the reflection placed his hand on the main body’s back. He was going to use his main body for the development of the method that would suit the dark lotus method. Sure it would be riskier that way, but it would also be easier.
"Risks and failure go hand in hand with success." Damon muttered. As the saying went in one cultivation novel Damon had read before; If I don’t enter hell who would?
"What have I to live for? if I have to live under someone else’s mercy?"
-----------------
Meanwhile at a completely different city in the Drakara continent, a lady walked down the busy streets with a thin veil covering her facial features. But even still, one could tell that there was an undeniably breathtaking visage beneath the veil.
Her scarlet locks swayed with every step she took, and her gorgeous black dress only added to her elegance. Who was she if not the princess of the Necron empire, and Damon’s rage baiter?
Anastasia hadn’t plan on taking a mission today, but at the end, she was just that bored. Delilah and Rose were unfortunately training, and Elsa, even though they didn’t interact much, was stuck with that godforsaken so called ’Omega ranked prodigy.’
Of course she tried to look for Damon to annoy, but apparently he and that dumb friend of his had gone into the forest early this morning. Which was why she had just decided to go out for a bit.
Anastasia knew her beauty drew attention, which was why she decided to put on a veil, but it seemed that even the veil couldn’t do much to deter a couple of individuals who had been silently following her since she set foot in this city a little over an hour ago.
’Another idiots being sent to their deaths.’ she thought. She was a princess, it wasn’t the first time someone had tried to assassinate her, so she was well accustomed to it by now. If anything, it was annoying.
Soon she reached an abandoned part of the city, where an abandoned temple that had seen better days stood.
"Are you guys going to reveal yourselves?" she turned back. The moment she said that, a dagger flew towards her with barely perceptible speed.
