The Editor Is An Extra-Chapter 111: Mid terms 7
A young man drooled, standing over a bunch of eggs he had just dug out from the confines of a hollowed tree. These were the first set of eggs he had found ever since the challenge started. He hurriedly put them in the special spatial storage they were given.
"Good, with these, I’m not going to be at the bottom of the barrel any lon..."
BOOM!
The young man was halfway through his sentence, when a black blur, faster than his eyes could process, descended from above one of the branches of the tree, in which he had dug out the eggs from.
The impact drove the young man into the ground, with the force of a falling meteor, carving a wide jagged crater into the ground. Dust and debris erupted outwards, in an almost perfect circle.
For a moment, there was only silence as the debris cleared away to show the young man. The young man coughed, as he struggled to lift himself from the crater his body had created. His ears rang with a high pitched frequency that drowned out everything else.
"What... what just hit me?" The young man murmured. Just before the moment of impact, he had noticed a black blur, but before his mind could process it, he was already face first to the ground.
The attack, whatever it was, had caught him off guard. But he was surprisingly fine, if the high pitched ringing in his ears was ignored. At the last moment before impact, he had managed to use his ability to cover himself.
While the young man knew he wasn’t strong, he was at least confident in his ability to protect himself. His initial ability was more like a shield/ barrier, which he could wrap around his entire body to tank attacks. And till date, it had never failed him.
"Who the hell..." he had barely began speaking, when he felt movement towards himself. Instantly, a shimmering blue barrier following the contours of his body came up, enveloping the young man. The next moment, the black blur reappeared in front of him.
BANG!
A pale fist smacked on top of the barrier, unloading tons of force. For a moment, it looked like the barrier would be broken through, but in the end, it held on.
The ground cracked beneath the young man’s feet, and during the time the barrier held on, in what felt like a split second, he saw a pair of cold eyes, beneath which lay a disdainful smirk. But before he could see anymore, the black blur vanished once more.
The resulting force of the impact meanwhile, didn’t leave the young man standing where he was. After the black blur vanished, by the time he processed anything, the young man was already tens of meters away, embedded in the side of a tree.
Two deep limes were drawn from the point of impact, all the way to his current location, halfway into a tree.
"Which bastard..." he yelled into empty air as blood welled in his throat, flooding out the moment he opened his mouth. Even though his barrier protected him, it had no way to deal with shock absorption. The attack didn’t quite hit him, but the concussive shock from it’s impact did.
Yet, before he could dig himself out of the tree, his hairs suddenly stood on end.
"Shit!" his expression contorted into a grimace. Unfortunately, it didn’t matter to the black blur, because the next moment,
BANG!
The hit landed on his shield once more.
CRACK!
The tree in which he was embedded, snapped and exploded into splinters. It simply couldn’t hold on, and gave way under the sheer force of the hit.
The young man flew through the air this time, the earth beneath him cratered just like before, when he landed ungracefully by the side of a river. He wasn’t given time to orient himself however, as a hand gripped his leg.
This time, he finally caught glimpse of who the black blur was. Wavy jet black hair that shone like silk, striking grey eyes, and last but not least, an annoying smirk that the young man would have loved to wipe off the figure’s face.
’How did my luck get so shitty?’ he thought gazing at the infamous unruly prince who before him. Before he could continue his thoughts however, the unruly prince opened his mouth.
"Let’s see just how durable that shield of yours is." The next moment, the young man’s vision was flipped upside down.
’Am I flying?’ he thought. It sure looked like he was thrown up. But what happened next shattered his thought process.
BANG!
His body was slammed to the earth with no mercy. CRACK! The earth shattered once more, giving way for the young man’s body. The air got knocked out of his lungs, but before he could recover, he was slammed again, and again, from left to right, and from front to back.
Then lastly, the unruly prince spun him around, before throwing him through the forest. The young man’s body snapped multiple trees, before losing his momentum.
The former prince calmly walked to where the young man lay, the young man’s eyes widened in fear. "Y...you. I surrender, I’ll give you the eggs. That’s what you fucking want right?! Just take them and leave me alone!"
The young man wasn’t going to risk getting eliminated right now. it was better to surrender the eggs he had with him now, and then maybe he would find some later.
The unruly prince stared at the downed figure of the young man in a moment of silence, before sighing.
"Sigh, you should have said that in the first place, it wouldn’t have come to this." He shook his head.
"..." The young man stared speechless at the unruly prince. For a few moments, his injuries, and the pain he was experiencing from being slammed around multiple times ceased to be from sheer astonishment.
Then came anger. But just as the young man was about to give the unruly prince a piece of his mind, even if it would cost him, the unruly prince continued.
"But I guess I didn’t give you much of a choice, did I?" He muttered in contemplation. "Anyway," The former prince smiled as he crouched before the young man. He placed a hand on his shoulder, before he continued.
"I forgive you." he said magnanimously. "Bring out the eggs, and I’ll be on my way." At this moment, to the young man, the nice magnanimous smile on the former prince’s face, was anything but nice. If anything, it looked like that of a devil.
A chill went down the spine of the young man, before he hurriedly emptied the five eggs he had just procured less than a minute earlier.
"Great!" The former prince beamed. "This brings my total to twenty- eight." he murmured.
’Wh...what? twenty- eight?’ The young man’s eyes almost fell out from sheer disbelief. Here he was happy to get five, but someone already had twenty three, and now that someone had taken his own five, making it twenty eight? This was just unfair.
Pat pat!
While the young man was undergoing his internal crisis, two firm pats on his shoulder brought him out of it. His eyes regained focus, only to see the unruly prince’s wide, almost creepy smile.
"I’ll remember you." The former prince said, before disappearing in a black blur. The young man didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. Someone came, beat the hell out of him, stole his eggs from him, only to try and console him with a ’I’ll remember you’.
Meanwhile, back with Damon, after getting the five eggs, he sped away from the forest. What he did to the young man might have sounded cruel, but he was merely saving himself from a fight that would have dragged on, while at the same time, giving the young man the chance to get back into the game.
If he hadn’t attacked the young man aggressively, giving him no chance but to surrender himself, the alternative would have been to just straight up eliminate him with a sure attack that Damon was sure the young man’s barrier wouldn’t be able to tank. Then take the special spatial storage, and empty out it’s contents.
But Damon was magnanimous, how could he bear to dash someone’s hopes. Now if it were someone he had beef with, say, Elsa, or Delilah. He wouldn’t hesitate to first give them a thorough beating, then straight up eliminate them.
Damon continued sprinting through the forest, maneuvering between obstacles with high efficiency, sometimes even checking the trunks of particularly massive trees.
But suddenly, he stumbled mid sprint. Luckily, he regained himself, and used his had to pivot off the ground, before flipping back onto his feet. He stood silent for a bit, before a wide grin appeared on his face.
"Ohohohoho, that’s how it is eh?" he smirked. One of his reflections had just stumbled unto something interesting. "Hahahahaha!" he broke into a full blown laughter. "How surprising, but, I’ll be the one to reap the fruits of your labor, Sia."
