Chapter 109: Mid terms 5

Fwwhoosshh!

Rose sped through the chain of mountains, but ignored climbing any of the mountains unlike the rest. Her goal was to reach another landscape before the others, which would give her more time to secure as many eggs as possible before the others arrived.

WHUM!

A pocket of air spread outward as she stilled to a stop. She had arrived on a high terrain, which was the edge of the mountain range. And before her, all her vision could see was white, or rather ice.

But it didn’t feel like any ordinary ice. Rose could tell, and was sure that just from the freezing wind that swept past her, a mundane human would have been frozen to an ice sculpture.

Before stepping forward, Rose coated her body with aether, using aether reinforcement, and then to completely negate, the freezing chill, a cloak of raging golden flames enveloped her being.

Fwwhoosshh!

She sped down into the ice terrain. Although she was fast enough to create a gust of freezing wind in her wake, her fire cloak didn’t allow that. In fact, some of the places she stepped, had the ice in that place melted.

And even though she was moving at immense speeds, Rose was still paying attention to her surrounding, her eyes flickering around every now and then. And soon enough, she noticed the entrance to an ice cave, with massive sized icicles hanging down it’s ceiling.

Rose immediately made course for it, and reached the ice cave in a few seconds, then disappeared into it.

------------

"So there are eggs here after all." Rose commented softly as she crouched to pick a multicolored egg, around the size of a car tire before her.

She was within a dimly lit ice cave. Turns out the ice cave wasn’t one, but an interconnected tunnels of ice. All that could be seen in the vicinity were rough icy walls, displaying the reflection of the environment along with rays of light from small spaces above.

Some massive sized icicles hanging from above occasionally dropped down, every now and then. Picking up the egg, it disappeared into the her spatial storage, with no sound whatsoever.

After the egg disappeared, she turned to the side to carry the rest of the multicolored eggs in the vicinity. It wasn’t the only one after all.

After taking the rest, which brought the total number of eggs she had to five, she didn’t linger, and began walking forward. She was going to check out all the other caves if possible.

In the next twenty minutes, Rose went from cave to cave, but didn’t find even a single egg. Just as she was about to move on to another set of icy tunnels however, she spotted a weird ice cave.

This one was just like any other, if you ignored the fact that there was a lake inside of it. It didn’t make any sense, especially since at minus temperatures, water was supposed to have long been frozen.

But if there was one thing that made Rose ignore the inconsistency, it was the six multicolored eggs embedded in the ice walls of the cave.

She worked fast, being extra careful in digging the eggs out. She didn’t know how durable they were after all. God knows, they might be unbreakable, or they might be just as fragile as any other egg.

Just as Rose was digging out the fifth egg however, she felt a chill down her spine, which shouldn’t have been possible with the golden cloak she had around her. A second later, the chill intensified into a feeling of danger.

Rose’s body moved before her mind even processed the movement. She leapt into the air, just as a beam of icy energy struck the space she had been a moment before. Almost immediately, the beam crystalized the still stuck egg, and formed a huge block of ice.

Rose flipped mid air and twisted backwards, to see the architect of the work. And there she saw it. A massive white scaled snake, emerging from the unfrozen lake. It scales looked like they were ice crystals, and it’s blood red eyes left little to the imagination. It was beautiful to a fault, at least that was what Rose would think if the snake had continued their staring contest.

But instead, while Rose was still mid air, the snake opened it’s mouth, and fired another beam of icy breath at her.

Rose stared at the incoming attack. If it struck her, she was sure to crystallize into a block of ice. But she had already used up the energy she had jumped with, and had no room to maneuver. Plus, the beam was simply too fast.

So, rose had no option but to counterattack. She was hesitant to do so at first, due to the fear that their attacks colliding, could bring down this cave on them. But it seemed she had no choice.

BOOM!

A pillar of golden flames exploded forth from Rose’s entire body, matching the diameter of the ice breath.

Shrarakakakaka!

The impact of both attacks, like Rose expected, expanded into a searing-freezing shockwave, that shook the cave to it’s foundations, effectively making the massive icicles on the ceiling to fall.

The shockwave had blown Rose back, so strong that she got embedded into the icy cave wall, so she was safe from the icicles. The massive snake on the other hand wasn’t so lucky. It had tried to submerge itself back in the water, but not before it was hit by multiple sharp icicles.

Though the icicles weren’t strong enough to pierce it crystal like scales, they were big enough to disorient it’s sense of direction, which Rose immediately took note of.

She dug herself out from the ice, and jumped down. The ground beneath her feet cracked upon her landing. Her expression was exceedingly calm, but anyone who knew Rose enough, would realize that beneath that calm facade was a furious storm.

A sword materialized before her, whose hilt she promptly gripped. Before the snake could notice, she was already before it. She leapt up, and landed on top of it’s head, than with no hesitation whatsoever, brought her sword down.

However,

Crannnnnnn!

It felt as if she was dragging metal against metal. The scales of the beast didn’t budge one bit. She tried to attack using a technique, however, she was flung off the beast’s head before she could do so.

Rose landed on her feet, skidding back a little. With surprising agility, the snake turned and charged at her, trying to gobble her up in one bite. Rose however, blurred backwards at the last moment.

The beast’s fangs hit the ice where she had been standing, cracking it, and sending fragments of it flying through the air.

But before the snake could react, a jet of flames roared at it, successfully striking it head and launching it back. But apart from the small blackened spots on a few scales, it was relatively fine.

"Persistent reptile." Rose spatted. She was feeling frustrated that this inferior creature was giving her this much trouble, completely forgetting that it was a rank above her.

The snake meanwhile, fired another breath of icy beam, which she promptly dodged, before charging at it. But just before she reached out, she suddenly blurred to the side, but alas, couldn’t evade the tail that smacked her away.

But before she could get embedded in the ice walls once more, Rose flipped, and landed on the ice walls on her feet, significantly denting them in the process.

She didn’t waste time, and charged back at it, evading ice breath over ice breath, until she got close enough to slip under it’s underbelly.

"Fall!" She sliced wildly at its neck, or at least where it’s neck should be. All she knew was that it wasn’t as invulnerable as other parts of the snake, since the scales there were infinitely smaller than those on the rest of it’s body.

Cold red blood spilled down towards Rose, but she’d be damned if she let it touch her. She blurred backwards just in time to avoid it. The snake’s body collapsed soon after, in a pool of it’s blood.

Rose still wasn’t convinced though, she wasn’t going to kill a snake without cutting off it’s head. Though, it took her multiple hacks, using ’Fall’, before she managed to separate the head from the rest of the body.

After achieving that, she swept back her hair that was in disarray, from all the fighting. She gazed properly at the beast’s corpse. For all the troubles it gave her, she was going to use it’s scales to make a dress. It was only fitting.

Meanwhile, with Damon.

"Shit!" a curse escaped my mouth as I got on my feet. Even though I transitioned into a roll at the last moment, it still felt like the bones in my lower legs had shattered.

Both my forearms were also bruised, so I had to chug down a tube of healing potion. ’That smug bastard.’ I cursed once more as the bruises started to scab.

My mood soured further on the thought, everyone back at the stadium might have seen my fall from grace. ’I guess I’m a laughing stock by now.’

I shook my head. I wasn’t going to let it get to me. My skin was too thick for that. So what if they laughed at me? The priority right now was looking for eggs.

I made 8 reflections, each with 8 percent of my aether, costing me around 64 percent of my aether. But hey, each had forty percent of my stats, so they weren’t entirely weak. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

As for my own aether that was down to 20 percent, including the cost of the reflections I had used to save my life, I would naturally recover over time.

After that, all of me sped in different directions. ’I’d like to see how anyone would get more eggs than me now.’ I smirked.
