The Editor Is An Extra-Chapter 103: The third trial 3
Two bodies, or rather, two corpses laid not too far away from where Sia stood. One of the corpses had no head, while the other had all of it’s limbs cut off, but it’s head was still intact.
In fact, it’s lifeless eyes could be viewed through the lens of the glasses on it’s face.
"Thought they’d put up a better fight." Sia pouted. Those two did not live up to her expectations. Though she didn’t expect a fight where she would ould only pull through by the skin of her teeth (The two were simply not qualified for that), she at least expected to be pushed.
But instead, the fight took less than a minute. Though, to them a minute might as well have been an hour, but still. The man with the glasses had invisibility, while the girl who had traces of blood on her body, could transform into a bipedal bird- like being.
(Note: Humanoid wasn’t used here, because there is no concept of humanoid in Nahaar. All the other races are also... well humanoid. But you get it).
When Sia said to fight both of them at the same time. Their reactions were predictable, bafflement, followed by disbelief. Was she looking down on them?
The girl with blood on her body burst out laughing, out of frustration, but the man with the glasses reassessed Sia. ’Since she made it here, it suggests that she is far stronger than her rank.’ he thought. ’Maybe I’ll stay my hand first, and since there is a perfect scape goat, I’ll watch the show for the time being.’
The girl finished laughing, then turned to the man with glasses. "Let me quickly deal with this distraction." she said referring to Sia. "Then we solve it between ourselves."
The man with the glasses pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "Very well." He didn’t object. His former teammate had proposed something similar earlier, but in the end, he was the one who came out victorious.
Hearing his agreement, the girl turned back to Sia. "Your hubris will be your undoing." She smirked as her body began squirming and transforming. Her mouth lengthened into a break, her hair turned to feathers, and her fingers twisted into talons. Not only that, her body became buff, and her height increased by an entire feet.
BOOM!
She rocketed towards Sia so fast that it would have looked like teleportation to the untrained eye. Her talons aiming to grip Sia’s entire face.
"Too slow." Sia muttered, taking a step to the side, making the transformed girl overextend through the space she had been. A cracking sound echoed through the chamber, as Sia launched a kick that connected brutally with the transformed girl’s jaw, sending her flying straight towards the man with the glasses.
The man promptly sidestepped just in time to avoid the transformed girl crashing into him. But his face was grim. Since he had been watching from the side, he saw as the transformed girl slowed down significantly as she got within a certain range from Sia. And from the looks of it, the transformed girl didn’t even realize it.
’This girl is dangerous.’ he thought as he subconsciously took a stance. ’It would seem that they would have to fight her together to have a chance. But if I also go close to her I’ll be slowed down.’ he thought grimly.
"What?" Sia turned to him. "You’ve finally decided to enter the fray?" She inclined her head.
"Since that’s what you want," He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I won’t be hold back then." he spoke as he seemingly disappeared into thin air.
The transformed girl meanwhile launched herself back at Sia. "I’LL KILL YOU!" The voice came out raspy and distorted. One would wonder if that was simply her voice in her transformed state, or maybe it was the kick from earlier that caused that.
Her talons sheared through the air in fast motions, trying to maul her opponent, but Sia dodged all with minimal movements.
At that point, Sia felt something entering her range. She almost smirked despite herself. But held on, lest she gave away that she could sense the intruder. She was only manipulating and slowing down the relative time of the transformed girl, and not the environment. Normally, she usually focused on the enemy and not the environment, unless there were many enemies, at which point she slow down the relative time in her range.
As for the intruder that came in, she simply gave him his own dose of it. She bided her time and continued dodging all of the transformed girl’s lunges, and waited for him to come close.
The moment he was in a close enough range to sneak attack, he waited until Sia sidestepped another one of the bipedal bird’s attack, before he swung his foil, aiming to split her in two.
But for the briefest of moments, Sia increased her own relative time, her sword appeared in her hand, and before he could react, both of his arms flew up into the air, spraying blood as they spun, and so did the stumps on his shoulder.
The man with the glasses blinked. How had it gone from him splitting her in two, to his arms being cut off. It took a few extra moments, before the pain assaulted him.
Arrrrgh!
His composed facade completely vanished as he screamed on top of his lungs. The transformed girl meanwhile took that chance to jumped backwards, as her face contorted in terror.
She hadn’t even known there was anyone there, until blood started spraying on her. And the biggest thing, was that she hadn’t even seen how Sia had moved.
However, what Sia did shocked her even more. Sia swung her sword twice, cutting off the remaining two limbs the man had.
The man let out another shrill cry, one that could only be heard upon severe pain being inflicted. The torso laid on one side, screaming with no limbs, while the limbs that had been severed laid around him as if in a formation.
The transformed girl would have found that artistic, if the smiling devil hadn’t turned to her next.
"A fine art no?" Sia inclined her blood bathed head as she asked. The transformed girl felt herself falter, but she couldn’t let Sia intimidate her, lest she suffered the same fate as the man on the ground.
With a battle cry, she launched herself once again at Sia while the man with the glasses continued his shrill cry. But the smiling devil dodged, and for the first time since they arrived in this chamber, the smiling devil stopped smiling.
"I’m getting bored." Sia remarked dryly. "And also, it would seem that you don’t have anything more to show me. Since that is the case, you might as well go meet your lover."
Before the transformed girl could react, let alone say a word of protest, Sia swung her longsword.
"Stillwater severance." The transformed girl’s head flew into that air, and landed back on the ground, before the body followed. Sia watched as the almost perfect surface on the neck of the girl, where her sword had passed through began jerking out blood.
Then slowly, the bird like features on the corpse started to fade, until it became that of a regular girl once more.
Sia then walked over the man with glasses who was still meeting out pained raspy breaths, and finished him off with a precise thrust of her sword into his heart.
The entire fight all took less than a minute, and she didn’t even feel pushed, which was why she thought they did not live up to her expectations.
A moment later, the translucent man appeared once more.
"Congratulations young one, you have passed all the trials needed to empty the coffers of this tomb." He smiled amicably.
Before Sia could say anything, a bright flash of light enveloped her, and when she opened her eyes again, she almost drooled.
She was in a hall as big as her dorm room, and what laid before her, were a mountain of gold on one side, and a mountain of aether stones on the other.
Sia blinked, trying to see if what she was seeing was really there, and not just a figment of her imagination. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Damn!" she muttered despite herself. She walked over, and picked up a gold knott. Sia realized the gold knott wasn’t the same as the one currently used in Nahaar, but gold was still gold. And then the aether stones, they weren’t anything like the boulder sized purified one she had found earlier, but they were still of a great quality.
What more, there were a mountain of them. Sia moved away from the mountains of gold and aether stones. Then made her way to a shelf filled with only tomes. ’Probably the techniques and spells used by the owner.’ she thought, before moving on to the final place.
A gleaming sword with a silver, almost mirror like blade, hung in the air, alongside a pair of black boots. They gave off a dense pressuring aura, but nothing Sia couldn’t handle. It showed that they were powerful, but still,
"Wait... that’s all?" sia frowned. For an entire tomb to have only two artifacts, how poor must the owner be.
"Hahahahaha!"
"You’ve made this old man laugh after a very very long time, young one." The translucent man appeared with a glass shattering laughter.
