The reason why Drew had ran away was because of a conflict with a decently powerful noble family. Drew alone was not strong enough to go against this family so he had no other way to survive but to disappear. And it looked like he did a very good job at hiding himself and his wife who was the reason of the conflict.

So even though they were convinced, as long as their founder was unwilling, they were also not going to nod their head in agreement.
