The dragon's harem-Chapter 1419: A Call From The Queen
Chapter 1419: A Call From The Queen
Arad was about to kill the white dragon. He had no reason to let the old lizard live. If he lets him live, he might attack the city again once Arad leaves, so he can’t take any risks.
Arad disappeared from the dragon’s vision. He had stopped messing around, and it’s time to put an end to those. He has people waiting for him in the city, and he would rather not leave them alone.
Arad grabbed the white dragon by the tail and pulled him in. The dragon struggled, trying to escape and run away, but Arad’s grip wasn’t something he could escape from.
Arad screamed as he swung the dragon around in circles, using him as a club to hammer and kill the trolls. The poor creatures couldn’t believe their eyes and didn’t even bother to run. If their enemy can toy with a dragon like that, then they are as good as dead.
From the sheer force Arad used, the white dragon’s tail ripped apart and was torn, letting the dragon’s body fly away and smack into the mountains with a deafening shockwave.
A massive avalanche fell from the mountain and washed all the trolls away, only leaving Arad standing there as he watched the dragon bleeding. He lifted his hand and pointed Mira’s staff forward. One through the head and spine would do the job.
But then, something clicked inside Arad’s head. He paused for a second, took a deep breath, and then lowered the staff. The white dragon took this chance and jumped away, running toward Arad’s barrier and crashing onto it.
The barrier refused to shatter, so the dragon started headbutting it with all of his might, finally managing to shatter it after three hits. He didn’t even bother looking back; all he cared about was running and getting as far away from Arad as possible.
Arad watched the dragon running away without moving. He then looked at the sky and leaned on his staff. "So? How does this work?"
^It’s a simple spell. Nothing is impressive about it.^ A woman’s voice boomed inside his head.
Arad smiled, "Getting through my mental defenses and even making the spell so complicated that Doma can’t hear us talking. Nothing is simple about this."
^I’m the Chromatic Queen, you don’t expect me to give you details about secret communication spells for free, right?^ The voice giggled.
"I’ve let the lizard run away just because you asked. Now, tell me why I should let him live." Arad looked in the direction from which the dragon ran away.
^You let him run away, he’ll live.^
"He ran away, but didn’t hide. As long as he’s inside my range, I can sense and kill him." Arad closed his eyes, and he could sense the white dragon running away several tens of kilometers away. Since that bastard was heavily injured, he couldn’t run that fast.
^All Chromatic Dragons pay me tribute. It’s like taxes for humans. But instead of gold, I ask for what I want. And that dragon was paying me with information about the region. He is good at his job, and I don’t want to lose such a talent. I can get him to work in another region, but I can’t have him die.^
Arad wasn’t buying it. Leaning forward, he looked at the destroyed landscape. "And your informant was plotting to ravage the Dark Elves’ capital. I’m sure he didn’t inform you, did he?"
^He didn’t report anything about that. But I knew what he was doing long ago. I was aware he wanted to attack Dark Moon Bay. I was even aware of when and how he would attack.^
Arad sighed and looked at the clouds, "Then give me one reason why I shouldn’t kill him and come pay you a visit."
Lola laughed, "You have my daughter, visit her instead of me when she wakes up. But, you’re wrong in one thing, I would’ve stopped him."
"Ho?" Arad smiled, "Care to explain?"
"Humans send criminals to prisons, kill or enslave them to get back the wasted costs they caused civilisation." Lola started talking in an even tone, "But you’re young, lived merely a year, and that year was among humans. I can’t expect you to understand how the dragon’s laws work."
"Enlighten me. I’m sure you don’t support chromatic dragons burning cities to the ground for fun." Arad wanted to know what the Queen was planning, and he was surprised to hear her answer.
^Imagine you’ve got a large piece of land. Then a stranger comes out of nowhere and starts building a house in your land. What will you do?^
"I’ll kick them away. If they aren’t a bother, I’ll give them a clean place to live in, close to the village. I don’t need to imagine, I’m doing just that now in Alina." Arad chuckled.
^I’ll let them build the house. I won’t kick them out, at first. I’ll let them work, spend their time, money, and effort to build the nicest house of their dreams. Once they finish and are about to settle down, it’s then that I’ll come and kick them out, destroy the house they built, and burn it in front of their eyes so they never dare put their eyes on my land.^ She growled and quickly calmed.
^In his case, that would’ve been his punishment. I will let him spend his resources and wealth. I’ll let him waste decades preparing. I’ll let him get his claws around the city, only to deny his ambitions at the last moment. Pain, death, and imprisonment don’t deter dragons; failure, defeat, and lost hope do. Dragons are paranoid by nature, planning for every small detail. Once they get stung by me once, they’ll never attempt something foolish just in case I make their efforts useless at the end.^
Arad didn’t expect such an answer. But she was right. That’s how dragons thought and operated. Even he, with all of his power, won’t bother making a plan if he knew that there is a decent possibility that Lola or Mary would come in the end to make his efforts a waste.
"You don’t happen to have a plan like that for me? Do you?"
Lola laughed, ^You’re in luck, I’ve got no plan to get in your way, and I’m sure Mary doesn’t want to bother you either. For me, the most trouble I’m throwing your way is my daughter. She is a handful. Don’t forget to visit me later, we’ve got a lot to talk about...^
"I’ll drop by soon." Arad stored Mira’s Staff.
^... like how many grandchildren I want. Probably seven or nine. I’m waiting to hear from you.^
