The Double-Chapter 428 - 141 Conclusion
Chapter 428: Chapter 141 Conclusion
Jiang Li walked in. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Ji Shuran stared at her blankly. For the past two days, apart from the abusive old woman, she hadn’t seen a single person. There was no need to mention Jiang Yuanbai and Madam Jiang the Elder, nor could she see Jiang Youyao and Jiang Bingji. As for her personal maidservants, they were probably all locked up. Ji Shuran couldn’t know what was happening outside; alone, she thought a lot about her own way out and also about Jiang Li’s situation.
The sight of Jiang Li at that time was clearly one of ghost possession. Although she was now in such a plight, Ji Shuran still couldn’t help thinking that it would be good if Jiang Li remained possessed or even better if those ghosts killed her. Now that Jiang Li had appeared, for an instant, Ji Shuran thought that the Jiang Li she saw was no longer among the living.
But then she observed Jiang Li softly instructing the maidservant by her side and yet again, reluctantly accepted the fact that Jiang Li was not dead. On the contrary, judging from her current appearance, she seemed unaffected by anything.
Jiang Li entered the room alone, with the maidservants waiting outside, and the door inside was shut. Jiang Li did not light any lamps, so apart from the candlelight, there was only the pale, tranquil light emanating from the white lantern in her hand.
Ji Shuran felt even colder, but a cold smile appeared on her face, "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you," Jiang Li sat down on the chair in front of the table, casually placing the lantern on the ground. She looked at Ji Shuran with her warm, soft eyes exuding tranquility, but what she said did not allow Ji Shuran any composure. She said, "After all, you have spent so many years in the Jiang Residence; before you leave, I should come to see you."
"Leave?" Ji Shuran furrowed her brow, "What leave?"
Jiang Li quietly watched her and after a while, said, "After doing so much, Madam surely doesn’t think she can leave without any consequences, does she?"
Lady Ji felt as if she were going to convulse from head to toe. Her clothes could not bring her a trace of warmth. She said, "Jiang Li, don’t you come here to intimidate me! This time I made one wrong move in the game, and that’s how I fell into your trap!"
"Madam really enjoys thrusting groundless accusations onto others decade after decade, falling to such a state, isn’t it your own retribution? You didn’t fall into my trap; you were merely found by those you harmed."
These words hit precisely on Ji Shuran’s fear that had been haunting her for days. But the more frightened she became, the more she wanted to deny Jiang Li’s words, as if by doing so, she could muster courage. She said, "Ridiculous, there is no such thing as karma in this world. If there really was karma, why didn’t it come earlier, and wait until now? If ghosts come seeking me now, do you think I’ll be afraid? It’s just wasted effort!" She coldly continued, "I have long since established a foothold in the Jiang Family, and I have borne a son and a daughter. Moreover, my sister at home is the Favored Concubine of the emperor. Even at this point, I’m not completely without a chance. The Jiang Family won’t harm me for the sake of my father’s face, will they?"
She looked at Jiang Li with a challenging gaze, "Ye Zhenzhen is dead, Jiang Yueer is dead! They are all dead, but my children still have a bright future ahead of them. What does it matter if there’s retribution in the world? Retribution came too late, and I still won!"
With that, she burst into near-hysterical laughter.
Jiang Li just watched her. She herself was not born into a high-ranking household; in the Xue Family, she didn’t have to struggle in power plays. Therefore, when she learned of all the evil deeds Ji Shuran had done, apart from shock, Jiang Li was simply bewildered. But now, she began to understand a bit.
The Ji family had raised a selfish and malicious woman. Her nature was profoundly vile, and it had nothing to do with her environment. Even if Ji Shuran had been born in an ordinary family, she would still use others as stepping stones for her own sake.
In Ji Shuran, Jiang Li saw only the evil side of human nature.
She smiled faintly.
In the dim light, the young girl’s plain dress made her features seem even more ethereal and cold. Her face was delicately beautiful, always wearing a comforting smile, but when her expression turned cold, it was as though she became another person.
Jiang Li said, "Really? You truly think that Jiang Youyao and Jiang Bingji will have a good life afterward? Or... do you think Consort Li will be safe and sound? Forgive my bluntness, Consort Li is now struggling to protect herself. You asked Consort Li to help you, but you got her into trouble too. The Ji family is too busy blaming you to spare any effort to keep you safe. You’re a member of the Ji family; you know very well what they would do, don’t you? Or did you actually know all along, but chose to deceive yourself?"
