Chapter 507: Desperation

Larisa’s lashes fluttered open, she still felt a slight ache in her head and the memories of how she became unconscious became hazy to her and her surroundings blurred a bit in her sight.

She grunted as she tried to sit up but immediately felt a strong arm wound around her waist, helping her sit up comfortably as she rested her upper body on the head rest. She didn’t need to look to know who it was, she could feel the menacing aura and at the same time the warmth exuding from the person’s body.

"What happened?" Her small voice echoed in the silent dark room, her eyes wandered to the dark skies through the window before it fell back to his gorgeous face that always made her heart skip a beat.

"Laverna was trying to help you..but you fell unconscious, i guess her powers are too powerful for my little Angel to handle, hm." A small smile drew on Lothaire’s lips as he teased her, caressing her brown hair gently.

There was no hint of disturbance or worry on his face, it was calm and she wondered if Laverna had been able to help her for him to be so relaxed.

"Was she able to help?" She questioned immediately, with ears eager to hear that the problem was solved but only silence followed and her heart thumped in anticipation of what would roll out of his lips. frёewebnoѵēl.com

"Hela’s trying to possess your body..but I won’t let that happen." His face went hard, free of the calm expression he once held as he spoke with a firm tone.

She bit her lower lips in disappointment as she linked her fingers together in nervousness, her instincts had proved her wrong, her instincts warned her that there would be no way out and now, her instincts told her that she was doomed.

"So she can’t help? No one can? What about your Father??" Lothaire could see the fear in her eyes and the desperation in her tone as she spoke with quivering lips and his teeth clenched knowing there was nothing he could do for her.

He had gone to his Father but even the devil had limits to what and what not he could do. The devil had given his son a free favour without asking for anything in return which was rather weird to him.

He tried to make a deal with Hela through the spiritual realm, exchanging her freedom to spare Larisa but she didn’t trust his words she knew how sly and cunning the devil was.

Moreover, she was filled with vengeance and suppressed anger of a thousand years of being trapped in the soul consuming abyss, she had made an oath to make Lothaire suffer in the darkest ways possible in an eternity of unending torture.

Lothaire’s fists tightened on the bed hearing her sound so hopeless and desperate, he hated to admit but he couldn’t protect her and the thought made him want to flame up and destroy everyone but he held his sanity just for her.

He blamed himself continuously for everything that was happening to her, he didn’t believe in karma but he saw himself being punished for imprisoning Hela. If he hadn’t imprisoned her, then maybe none of this would have happened.

But if he didn’t imprison her, she would be causing a huge ruckus and enslaving the humans as the power hungry crazy goddess she was and then, it wouldn’t still be safe for Larisa, so there was no use crying over spilt milk and he couldn’t regret the actions he took as it had made the world safer for Larisa but now, it was no longer safe, it was a nightmare for her.

He would give anything right then and there but the only thing precious to him was her so what could he possibly give in exchange for her life? His? He was immortal and even though he could die, Hela would never take his life, she’d want him to watch his mate die before his eyes, leaving him to an eternity of torment, it would be the sweetest taste of revenge for her.

"They can’t help but that doesn’t mean we should give up now. You have to be strong for us, be strong for you. She’s feeding from your fear, strengthen your mind and she won’t be able to possess you, she can’t hurt you through nightmares remember that, but if you let her feed more from the weakness of your mind and your fear, she’ll be able to possess you and then she’d be able to hurt you, but I won’t let that happen, so you have to be brave Larisa." His golden eyes burned into hers as he cupped her face, trying to strengthen her with his words.

She understood what he was trying to say but what she couldn’t understand was if she was brave enough to fight her. She knew they were just nightmares but still, there was an unfathomable, inauspicious feeling to it, like it was giving her a death warning.

She didn’t know what death felt like but she could feel a dark presence, alarming her that she was going to die soon, looming heavily around her like a constant reminder even though she wasn’t having any nightmares yet.

"I’ll be strong." She said firmly, she was going to try to be strong, if not for herself, then for Lothaire. She couldn’t bear leaving him to an eternity of torment and pain but her instincts rang continuously in her head that she would fail miserably, which made her shudder slightly.

"That’s one brave little Angel. Anytime you have a nightmare, just think of coming back to me, think of us, it should help eradicate your fear." Lothaire said with a soft, low voice but she wasn’t feeling fear, she was feeling the presence of death.

She managed to draw a small smile on her lips.

"How long did I pass out?" She queried with a small voice as she looked out the window, staring at the skies that had darkened with lightning thundering through the clouds, threatening to pour out rain.

He followed her eyes movement before dropping it back on her face.

"Long enough." Was the short reply that came.

"Do you think our future will be more peaceful?" She blurted out thoughtlessly with sad hazel eyes staring at him, searching his face for answers that he couldn’t give.

Never had Lothaire been miserable until then, hearing her questions made him wonder about their future, if she survived, as much as he wanted it to be an ’after she survived’ but now, her survival stood on shaky grounds, so if she survived, how many evils would threaten their bond in the near future and would they be able to defeat all?

It was a question he couldn’t find answers to as he couldn’t even find the answer to whether she would live till then or not.

"It will. I’ll never let anything or anyone harm you Larisa." His voice firm, yet it held a bit of uncertainty in it as their future also seemed uncertain. It wasn’t his fault, he wasn’t trying his best, he was doing everything to protect her, even though somehow it didn’t seem enough. It occurred to him that protecting her took more than just physical strength.

"I know....I won’t ever leave you either." Her voice was low, almost like a whisper as she stared into his golden eyes, she had decided on being strong for him despite the ominous presence of death looming around her and the constant inauspicious feeling her instinct emitted into her.

She would ignore it all and think only about him, she couldn’t die now, no! She couldn’t ever leave Lothaire, it was an impossible feat to her, she could never let that happen. He would be her mental shield and strength, strengthening her mind and soul.

A tear drop rolled down her cheeks as she said those words, she knew it would take up a lot of mental strength and wouldn’t be easy to defeat Hela but she didn’t want to die, she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him to an eternity of cold emptiness and pain.

She felt Lothaire’s warmth spread to her body as his thumb cleaned the tears off her cheeks in silence. He locked his golden gaze with hers before pressing his lips softly into hers, he kissed her ever so delicately and at the same moment, the kiss was filled with a burning flame of passion.

He stroked his lips gently against hers, making her forget her sorrows, making the presence of death null and void around her, he made her unable to feel a thing and she liked the feeling of him being able to make the world extinct with just his burning touch.
