The Devil's Good Girl-Chapter 267: Something’s wrong with me
Chapter 267: Something’s wrong with me
A loud shriek came out of Fil as she covered her mouth. Her eyes instantly went wide and, for a second, everything around the vicinity went morbidly quiet.
All the people in the restaurant turned to the crashing sound and were stupefied by what they had witnessed.
"Get... get some help..." someone stuttered as if fighting his mind from going blank. "Help! Someone was hit outside! Ambulance! Call for an ambulance!"
The man’s frantic shouting snapped everyone back to their senses. Some rushed outside to see the situation. Others didn’t have that much courage. And there were those, just like Fil, who were frozen on their spot.
Fil’s widened eyes shook as she fixed them on the body lying in the middle of the road. Michael’s body flew away upon colliding with the truck, but the truck didn’t even stop and just sped away.
"No," she blurted out, panicking.
Fil quickly rushed outside, her mind completely denying everything. Even though Michael saw her as he crossed the street and even waved at her, she denied it was him.
The man might just be a look-alike, she thought.
That person wasn’t her friend. It wasn’t Michael. He wasn’t...
Fil ran to the crowd that was surrounding the body. She heard someone say he was a doctor, but others were just there to pry as if this were a show. Fil ignored all of that as she approached.
The closer she was, the louder her heartbeat was. The second she saw the face covered with blood and his twisted arms and legs, her heart immediately dropped to her stomach.
Fil gasped as she covered her mouth, subsequently falling to her bottom. Her eyes, however, couldn’t look away from the familiar face that she remembered smiling at her just now.
Just one moment, he was full of life, and now...
"No..." Tears slowly formed in her eyes, blurring her vision.
At the same time, she heard someone speak. "He’s... gone."
Gone.
The air in the surroundings instantly turned still upon hearing the word "gone." It was as though no one breathed at that moment, trying to process every meaning of that simple and common word.
For some reason, the word felt sickening and nauseating. Some onlookers even threw up, others teared up and cried. They didn’t know this stranger, but their heart was tugged upon seeing how his life ended. No one even thought of the heartless truck driver who hit the man and didn’t stop.
As for Fil, her world stopped.
"How could... this happen?" she whispered, finally realizing this reality no one could ever expect. "Michael... please..." let this be a dream.
A terrible nightmare she would find herself waking up from. Fil wept without a sound, unable to discern the level of pain tearing her heart apart. Her heart wanted to deny it, but her mind knew it was the reality.
"Please... no... help!" she crawled to him and grabbed the man who claimed to be a doctor. "Please, sir, my friend can’t just die like that!"
The man felt sorry for her and everyone in the crowd realized the victim and her were together. Some of them recognized Fil because her beauty was enough to attract anyone. They immediately deduced the victim and Fil were just going to eat, but such a terrible accident happened.
"Please!" Fil begged. "Help him —" she then quickly reached for Michael’s hand, realizing they were still warm. "He’s still warm! Please help my friend! Michael..."
She juggled begging for help and holding Michael, trying to reassure him he would be fine until the ambulance came. As the paramedics carried the body on the stretcher, Fil still held his hand while matching their hurried pace.
"Please... Michael..." she whimpered as she hand to let his hand go while the paramedics lifted the stretcher inside the ambulance. Her eyes were fixed on him, forgetting about everything else.
"Michael..."

"Michael? What about him?"
"Huh?"
Fil snapped back to her senses, catching Jackson tilting his head. She furrowed her brows and glanced at the food on the table. Finding the food familiar, Fil raised her head back to Jackson. He looked just as confused as her.
"Fil?" he called this time, his voice laced with a tinge of worry. "Is everything alright? You looked like you’ve seen a ghost."
"Uh." Fil cleared her throat, opening and closing her mouth, but her voice wouldn’t come out.
Jackson’s brows rose, a little worried. "Fil?"
"Jack..." she whispered, scratching her temple as her head throbbed.
Seeing her action, Jackson asked once again. "Fil, are you okay?"
"Uh, yes." She forced a short and weak smile. "Just a sudden headache."
"Are you sure?"
"Mhm. It’s fine." Fil huffed as her headache slightly subsided. "Anyway, what are we talking about again?"
Jackson scrutinized her expression again. She didn’t seem fine just now, but looking at her more, he thought it was just a headache. After all, they were just eating dinner while she was talking to him. Fil then paused for just a few seconds as if she was briefly deep in thought. But now, he thought it was probably the short sudden headache.
"You said you called Michael," he said, to remind her of their topic.
Fil briefly furrowed her brows, but still spoke. "Ah. Well, I was thinking of meeting him before the wedding. He’s become a good friend of mine, but I’m still undecided about inviting him to the wedding. So, I was thinking since you’ve been busy..." she trailed off when her own voice echoed in her ears as if she already said these same words.
"And?" Jackson furrowed his brows. "Are you asking for my permission?"
Hearing his same response, her eyes slowly went wide. But she still spoke. "Can I?"
"My love, you don’t have to ask me for permission. Just letting me know is fine. Should I come with you and meet him? I haven’t thanked him for his help the last time." Jackson clasped her hand, but then furrowed his brows as Fil spoke with him at the same time.
"... thanked him for his help the last time." Fil’s mouth fell open, wide-eyed. She stared at Jackson in horror as she remembered everything. "Jack... I think something’s wrong with me."
