The Devil's Contractual Bride-Chapter 22: The Unknown
Lucian’s POV
The live stream counter from Ethan ended, but his voice stayed and continued to resonate in my head.
I stared at the frozen screen for three full seconds before the rage swallowed me whole.
I turned to Aria who was still sitting on the couch with her phone clutched in both hands like it was the only thing keeping her grounded.
"Is it true?" I asked. My voice came out rougher and harsh than I had intended it to.
Aria blinked. "What?"
"What Ethan just said. The fertility test and the disease. Is it true?"
She stared at me like she was dumb and incapable of responding and that made my rage build up.
"No," she said. A word finally left her lips. "No, Lucian. I don’t know anything about a fertility test. I’ve never had one and neither have I been told that I can’t conceive. You of all people should know he’s lying and making all of it up."
I searched her face, she looked like she wasn’t lying but I wasn’t going to sweep something like this under the carpet. Besides, the doubt had already planted a poisonous fast growing root.
What if Aria was deceiving me all this while or worse.
I stood up so fast the coffee table rattled.
"Lucian—"
I didn’t wait or even take a second to look at her as she tried to limp to where I stood.
I hurriedly grabbed my coat, keys and phone—anything to keep my hands busy so I wouldn’t put them through another wall.
"I’m going to find him," I said. "Right now."
Aria scrambled to her feet. "No! You just got out of jail. You can’t keep doing this"
"I can and I will," I snapped. "Now let go of me."
She stepped in front of me. "Lucian, please stop. We’ll fight him legally with l proof soon—"
"Proof?" I laughed. "You must be a joker to think the world cares about you and your stupid proof."
I moved around her trying to get away from her prying eyes and the consistent nagging but she grabbed my arm forcing me to stop .
"Don’t do this," she whispered. "Not again please."
I looked down at her hand on my sleeve. Then up at her face which was tear-streaked and written with fear and anxiety terrified.
"I have to," I said. "If this baby is not mine,I have to find out now."
I pulled free, walked to the door and opened it only to walk straight into four uniformed officers.
They were already in the hallway—two in front, two behind. Their badges were out with their hands near holsters.
"Mr. Voss," the lead officer said. "You need to come with us."
I froze.
Aria appeared behind me. "What’s going on?"
The officer didn’t look at her. "Judge’s order. You’re to have an immediate conception dating test for disobeying the initial court order. Failure to comply will amount to contempt of court leading to the immediate arrest of you and your wife."
I felt the air leave my lungs.
Ethan stepped out from behind the officers, smirking.
"Hello, Voss," he said. " Hope you’re R
ready to find out the truth?"
I moved without thinking,my fist was already rising to punch a hole into his filthy face. But almost immediately, two officers grabbed me from behind. I shoved one to the ground but they came prepared. Before I could make another move, cold metal cuffs snapped around my wrists for the second time in twenty-four hours.
Aria gasped.
"Lucian!"
Ethan let out a satisfied laugh. "Told you so Aria. The monster you married can’t even control himself."
The officers pushed me inside the car.
I twisted my head. "Aria—"
"I’m coming," she said. Her voice was shaking but firm. "I’m not letting them do this without me."
Ethan’s smirk widened. "Of course you have to come with Aria, this whole thing cannot go in without you."
They drove quickly to the nearest hospital which happened to be the one the judge suggested the test be done in .
Like a criminal, they got me out of the marched me down the the entrance of the hospital
Aria followed closely and we all got into the elevator.
The elevator ride was silent except for the hum and Ethan’s occasional chuckle.
I stared at him the whole time and like a kid who had just had a ton of chocolates,he stared back smiling.
Surprisingly, the hospital was quiet at this hour. I had expected reporters and a large crowd arranged by Ethan but I met only sterile white corridors and the smell of death.
They took us to a small exam room where a doctor waited—an older woman, probably in her 50’s with glasses and a clipboard.
"Mr. Voss,Mrs. Voss,Mr. Caldwell."
Ethan sat first. He seemed so confident things would go his way and I sincerely hope it doesn’t.
I was uncuffed only after they made me sit on the opposite side of the room.
Aria stayed by my side, holding my arm and trembling.
The doctor cleared his throat. "We’ll begin with a few blood draws and ultrasound as usual to see how long you have been pregnant . Results will be processed immediately as requested by the court order"
I looked at Aria as they drew her blood and she whimpered in pain. After what seemed like an endless insertion and removal of needles they asked to be excused for the ultrasound.
A few minutes later ,a nurse ushered us in and we were all welcomed by the images in the screen
The doctor studied the screen and typed.
Ethan leaned forward. "Well?"
The doctor looked at the clipboard, then at us.
"What did the initial test result say Ms Aria"She asked as she searched Aria’s eyes in pity.
"It said I’m three weeks pregnant doctor.Hope everything is fine?"Aria asked, her voice shaking.
She cleared her throat again.
"I’m sorry, Mr. Voss," he said"But the results of this test shows that Ms Aria is three months pregnant."
