Chapter 69: Night Attack!

The bright full moon hung high in the night sky, bathing Jiangnan City in soft, silvery light.

Within the Southwards Villa Area, Yang Qingxi’s villa lay quiet. The owner, the maids, and the servants had long since gone to sleep. Only a few night guards remained awake, dutifully patrolling the perimeter.

Of course, there was also one more night owl.

Although the clock had already crept past 1 a.m., Su Mo had no intention of sleeping. If anything, he was more energized than ever.

"Haha, I won!"

He sprang to his feet as the victory screen flashed across his monitor.

"With this, that makes sixteen wins in a row."

Satisfied, Su Mo leaned back, confidence swelling as smug thoughts crossed his mind.

’I only lost to those brats earlier because I’m new to the games of this world. Once I fully get the hang of it... even professional players won’t stand a chance.’

Just as he was about to queue for another match and continue his glorious streak, his expression shifted.

A ripple brushed against his spiritual sense.

"Huh?"

He frowned slightly.

’Peak Body Refining stage... and sneaking in at this hour?’

Su Mo’s good mood dimmed immediately.

’That can only mean trouble.’

Annoyance crept into his thoughts.

’Seriously, couldn’t you have waited until morning?’

He sighed. Still, he knew he couldn’t ignore it. After all, he had received rather generous payment from Miss Yang just this evening. If he slacked off now, even his conscience wouldn’t let him rest easy.

’Fine. Let’s see where our little visitor thinks they’re going...’

Extending his spiritual sense, he tracked the intruder’s movements.

"...Servants’ quarters?"

Su Mo raised an eyebrow.

’Interesting. Is the target one of the maids? Or is this just reconnaissance?’

Either way, he was about to find out.

He set the joystick aside. In the next instant, his figure flickered—and vanished from the room.

---

Meanwhile, a stealthy figure had already slipped past the patrolling guards and reached the servants’ quarters without incident.

’That was easier than I expected.’

The intruder paused briefly, her eyes scanning the area.

’As the heiress of the Yang Consortium, I thought her security would be airtight.’

She sneered internally.

’But what is this? A few ordinary guards and some cameras? Seriously? Or do they just not care whether their heiress lives or dies?’

A thought surfaced.

’Must be internal power struggles within the family.’

The night visitor was clad in a tight black tactical bodysuit, reinforced at key points, with straps and gloves designed for stealth, flexibility, and efficient combat.

When Su Mo arrived nearby, recognition struck him immediately.

"...Her?"

He felt a dull ache form at his temples.

’You’ve got to be kidding me. Why the hell is she here?’

Another thought followed swiftly.

’Did someone put a bounty on Yang Qingxi’s head on the dark web?’

His headache worsened.

He really didn’t want a wave of assassins targeting Yang Qingxi. That would make his job as her bodyguard far more annoying.

Sure, he could deal with every killer on the dark web without much effort.

But being bothered over and over again?

No thanks.

He still had a gaming career to focus on.

While Su Mo was mulling this over, the intruder remained unaware of his presence. She quietly unlocked a door and slipped into the servants’ building.

Inside, she began checking room after room, clearly searching for something or someone.

Seeing that she didn’t seem to have a precise target, Su Mo decided to wait and observe.

Eventually, she entered the room of a young maid and stopped.

’Is that it?’ Su Mo narrowed his eyes.

According to what he knew, this woman hadn’t killed innocents outright, but that didn’t make her harmless. Plenty of innocent people had still suffered because of her actions.

Whether the maid’s life was truly in danger or not, Su Mo wasn’t willing to gamble.

The intruder took out a small perfume bottle and stepped closer to the sleeping maid.

Su Mo’s gaze sharpened.

’Now’s the time.’

His figure flickered.

Before the intruder could even register his presence, Su Mo struck the back of her neck with a precise hand chop.

She collapsed instantly.

"Muamn~"

The sudden sound startled him.

"...?"

"Burgers~"

Su Mo turned his head slowly toward the bed.

The maid was still fast asleep, mumbling happily.

He stared at her in silence.

"...A burger lover, huh."

She even smacked her lips, as if savoring the dream.

Su Mo shook his head, a faint chuckle escaping him.

’At least thanks to me, this foodie’s dream didn’t get interrupted.’

With a small smile, he slung the unconscious intruder over his shoulder. In the blink of an eye, he vanished once more.

No alarms sounded, and no one noticed a thing.

---

Back in his room, Su Mo set the intruder down and pulled out his phone.

He dialed a number.

First time, no answer.

He tried again. Still nothing.

On the third attempt, the call finally connected, and an irritated voice came through the speaker.

["Give me one damn reason you’re disturbing my sleep, Su Mo."]

Su Mo blinked and glanced at the caller ID again, just to be sure.

’...Miss Yang?’

This was the first time he’d heard her speak to him in such a tone.

’So she is the type that gets grumpy when woken up,’ he mused. ’Fair enough. I would too.’

Since he was clearly in the wrong, Su Mo didn’t get annoyed. Instead, he apologized politely.

"Sorry for disturbing you, Miss Yang. I just caught a killer inside the estate—"

["Just that?"]

She cut him off without hesitation.

["Handle it however you see fit. I’m going back to sleep. Good night."]

*Beep.*

Su Mo stared at his phone.

"...Wow."

After a moment, he sighed.

"Should I be happy that she trusts me this much," he muttered, "or annoyed that she’s casually increasing my workload?"

He looked down at the unconscious intruder, his headache returning with interest.

’Kill her?’

The thought barely lasted a second.

’No. I’m not quite ready to cross that line yet.’

After a brief pause, he made another decision.

’Let’s trouble her then.’

He dialed another number.

This time, the call was answered almost instantly.

"Sister Xulin," Su Mo said calmly, "come down quickly. I caught a killer."

["...Huh?!"]
