The Demon Lord's Bride (BL)-Chapter 733: Because using your middle name is a bit embarrassing
Chapter 733: Because using your middle name is a bit embarrassing
From the town square, we rented an open carriage we saw over there--you know, to keep the economy going--and took Shwa on his first carriage ride since his naming ceremony.
"Aahh! Auuh! Mwaaah!"
I didn’t have to tell you how much he liked it, right? This little guy couldn’t even sit yet, but he already wanted to stand up on the ledge to look around as the carriage drove along the road. Once more, I was reminded of how strong Shwa was, and let Natha keep holding him because I feared he would escape my hands if it was me.
"Papa! This is like when you marry Natha!" Jade giggled while holding Shiny, taking an entire seat for himself.
"It does feel like everyone continues with their life well," I commented while looking around.
The afternoon was truly a good time to see a city that came to life. There were not many carriages near the town square since most people walked anyway, but we could see stagecoaches carrying stuff and horses going around. If there was anything I could praise the principality for, it was the way they maintained the road well.
Too bad that the baron in charge of infrastructure returned to the Empire because their family was there, but his student stayed, so it was something. We could always have someone from Greed or elvendom to manage the infrastructure too.
"I didn’t see much of other races here, though..." I muttered.
"Well, most of them are constructing and in the process of moving," Natha explained. "Besides, it seemed like there was a tacit understanding about having their own...territory? Pocket? Region? The district around that town square is where the humans gathered, and I heard those who live in other places started to find a house to move over there."
Hmm...I wasn’t sure how I should feel about that. I was using this city as a place where people from all realms and races could interact. But would that happen if they created their own bubbles?
"I know what you think; I understand what you want. But sweetheart," Natha stroked my cheek, smiling gently. "It’s normal for people to seek familiarity. I don’t think it’s wrong for them to create their own community, as long as they behave nicely in public places."
Well...I guessed, it was kind of how there were places like Chinatown or Koreatown on Earth?
"They would still need to use the public facility together, so there will always be a chance for interaction," Natha said. "In the future, some might even forge a relationship, have mixed kids, and the wall will get lower and lower."
"Awaa!"
"Yes, mixed kids like Shwa," Natha chuckled, squeezing the baby’s cheeks. "One step at a time."
"Aguh-aah!" Shwa slapped his daddy’s hand and looked at me with a pout full of pleading. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Yeah," I could finally laugh and took the protesting baby from Natha. "One step at a time."
Just as Natha said; as we go further, I started to see the lust demons and vampires, as well as the drow merchants in the process of setting up their new stores. The area near the border to the children of nature was where most of the drows and the druids lived. Natha told me that he told his agents to set up inns and dorms first for the workers who would come for the construction works.
"We do send demons who had worked for me to spearhead most of the construction, but most of the workers will come from the humans who lost their jobs," Natha smiled and curled his eyes. "As well as the mixed race that had been living in hiding."
I gasped. Oh, how bad! What a bad husband! He should’ve told me that earlier! I had no idea if I wanted to smack him or kiss him, so I did both.
When I ended the short, two seconds kiss, Shwa smacked Natha’s chin and Jade smacked his knee. Me? I laughed, because that day was truly, truly perfect.
The carriage stopped at the commercial district, where big buildings were undergoing big reconstruction. We stopped in front of an octagon-shaped plaza, where several benches and tables could be seen. I imagined it would be the perfect place for the employee to have a lunch break.
After all, the buildings surrounding this plaza would be the offices of merchants guilds from three realms, Natha’s bank, and an auction house. On the main avenue, there would be that shopping mall Zarfa had wanted to build, as well as all kinds of stores for all races. On the opposite side would be what I like to call a cultural center street.
"That’s where the museum would be, right?" I asked Natha to make sure.
"Yes; and the public library you want," Natha replied with a smile. "And as Jade requested, there will be an area for children too."
"Yaay!" Jade raised his hands, although we didn’t even know if we would visit this place that often.
But Jade was asking for a good stuff, because I hadn’t seen any library for kids in this world. The schools--the ones good enough--had a small one, but it was only for school books. Children’s books were considered a luxury, and typically only bought by the rich--not by public facilities that were accessible for everyone. After all, recreational stuff was a luxury.
But it didn’t have to be, right?
The library was also next to the museum, and I would make sure it had all the history leading to the establishment of the city. People should learn. People should keep on learning how horrible it was to live with manipulated hatred.
It was going to be hard, I knew. Natha already reminded me that we had to correct the books first. And then we also had to think about the language barrier. A new department should be made just to cater to this alone under the committee. Standing there and watching a pair of lust demons trying to communicate with a human peddler with difficulty made the challenge even more apparent. Not everyone knew how to speak a common tongue, after all. Especially children.
But if there was something children thought me, it was that they could communicate well even with a language barrier. Seeing Jade suddenly run to a group of children to share his candy as usual and play around made me feel hopeful for the future.
"You don’t have to think about this stuff yourself," Natha rubbed my frowning brows. "This is where we use others’ expertise."
"Like Lesta and Eruha?" I glanced at him.
"Like them," Natha smirked.
Yes. There were a lot of people helping me build this city; a city that was like a sprout of future harmony. At least, I hope so.
In order for us to see the whole city, we returned to the palace--to the tall west tower where we could see the whole city from its rooftop. It was windy, but nothing much for our family.
"Awaaah!"
Shwa wiggled excitedly in my arms, swatting his limbs in the air as the wind touched his face and played with his hair.
"Yeah, he’ll love it if we take him riding the wyvern," Natha chuckled. "I guess I have to order a new protective artifact to shield him from impact."
"Yeah, we should," I laughed. We’d let him run and fly and everything. Going on adventures, knowing the world fully.
"Ah-uuh!"
"Yes, we’ll build an amusement park there, so you can play all you want."
Jade gasped and looked at Natha with sparkling eyes. "And fish houses too?"
"Yes, an aquarium too."
"Candy store too?"
"Isn’t there already a candy store in the town square?"
"But more is better, Natha!"
"Hmm...make sense."
Oh, these two. My laughter just came out freely through their conversation. Even without closing my eyes, I could already picture how this city would be in the future. Vibrant and colorful. Buildings of many types and aesthetics, skins of all colors, several languages blended together on the street...
I got a little giddy.
It was almost the same feeling I had when I was about to have Shwa. Not as much, just almost. But...the hopeful thought, the excitement of what was to come, as well as the anxiety if everything would go well...those kinds of feelings were the same. It was like...
It was like I was giving birth to a city. To a future.
I looked at my beautiful son and smiled, holding his chest and making sure he could see everything. "Look, Shwa--Papa made this for you," I said shamelessly.
I was supposed to do this for the betterment of the world, for peace and harmony. For a world where all races could live side by side, for mixed races to find their home without having to face prosecution. But I had to be honest; I did it for my son. If other people benefited from it, that was good. But once again, I did it for my son, and I wasn’t ashamed to admit it.
"This is your Great-Grandma’s homeland. A part of your blood," I told him as we looked at the magnificent, golden sky. "It will be one of your homes, baby. Isn’t it beautiful?"
"Mwaah!"
"Yeah? You like it?" I laughed.
"Of course he does," Natha chuckled while stroking the little horned head. "Have you decided on what to call this city?"
I took a deep breath and looked around, looking at the city that breathed new life. People from all races were going to settle in this city, taking sparks of hope with them. The growing Great Tree, which would stand higher and higher, would be the symbol of the city’s growth. The symbol of hope.
Hope.
Shwa patted my chin, pulling me back from my musing. "Aeeh?"
I smiled at the coincidence and nodded. "Aier," I said. "Let’s call this place Aier."
A hopeful place. A hopeful sprout.
