The Demon Emperor was Saint Emperor-Chapter 42: The Current Situation in the Demon Realm
The marchioness’s proposal was excellent, and after hesitating for a while, Marquis Jones ultimately decided to adopt her suggestion.
Vivian was astonished by her parents’ quick consensus. You’ve settled it so quickly? But why does it seem like they’re discussing as if Lynn and I are already a certainty?
Although I also think it will most likely work out, isn’t there still a 0.1% chance that it won’t?
Vivian scratched her head in confusion. She wasn’t even concerned about whether their family would be resented by His Majesty the Emperor; she just wanted to know if she would be going to Lynn’s house once they were done discussing.
Sure enough, after the conversation ended, the marchioness pulled Vivian aside and softly instructed her on ten tips for getting along with men. These were the tips she had summarized herself and was now preparing to pass on to the next generation.
However, these techniques were all honed against Marquis Jones and were only suitable for dealing with playboys. If she encountered a sincere man, these might not work as well.
Lynn’s appearance seems to suggest he’s destined to steal hearts, so it’s likely he’s not the sincere type. Now that Vivian has accepted her family legacy, she will certainly secure a good position by his side.
A flurry of whispers, murmurs...
"Alright, today let’s officially visit Lynn’s house, so the Emperor doesn’t say we’re inept."
After explaining everything to her precious daughter, the marchioness pinched Vivian’s rosy cheeks, then turned to speak to the despondent Marquis Jones.
"We are the elders; can it be called a visit when we go to his house?"
Marquis Jones muttered under his breath.
"What’s his level, and what’s your level? If it’s not a visit, do you think it’s a comfort call?"
The marchioness sighed with exasperation, tapping Marquis Jones on the head. With such a domineering prospective son-in-law, if you don’t learn to bow your head, what are you pretending to be a big wig for?
"Alright, alright, I’ll go prepare the carriage."
Even more dejected, Marquis Jones walked away. From now on, he was destined to play the part of the submissive minister, carefully pleasing his future son-in-law. Although being a noble and a father-in-law was rather humiliating, this was apparently the best choice.
Meanwhile, as the Marquis’s Mansion buzzed with excitement, a group of returning wanderers arrived through the teleportation array in Celestial Destiny City.
The instructor of Celestial Destiny Magic and Martial Arts Academy had returned with students who had performed poorly in their exercises.
Originally, it was expected that at least ten teams would earn an excellent rating from this exercise, but in reality, fewer than three teams had managed to complete their tasks.
These young and inexperienced students, with nearly no combat experience, were initially tasked with clearing slimes and goblins from the wasteland for good training, but an accident turned up midway.
For some unknown reason, the wild magical creatures were enthusiastic and energetic, climbing in levels from a mere 1 to 50 up to a baseline of level 10, with no cap even as high as level 100.
Though this slight increase in strength posed no threat to nearby towns or villages, the news of the revival of demonized creatures caused a heavy feeling in the hearts of all the instructors.
What is happening? The Demon Dragon Emperor, the supreme of the Demon Realm, has been dead for a year. The surviving magical creatures on the Divine Protection Continent should be grateful for not declining to their lowest point, yet they seem invigorated as their levels skyrocket.
Isn’t the Anti-Demon Battlefield making good progress at the front?
Various factions within the Demon Race were busy carving their own territories in the Demon Realm, recklessly enhancing their power, turning a deaf ear to the newly crowned Demon King’s orders, with clear intentions of overthrowing the Demon King’s rule and letting heroes vie for supremacy.
In this context, the demon legions worked just nominally, maintaining a low-intensity war with the Divine Protection Army, but in reality, each was preserving its strength, holding its forces independently.
Perhaps for the Demon Race, the fundamental ground of the Demon Realm is the most important. As for the three continents they occupied in the Miracle World, those could be discarded when necessary.
Of course, what truly turned the Demon Race’s focus inward was not their sudden conscience but rather the terrifying deterrent of divine weapons descending from the sky a year ago and the supreme allure of the vacant Demon Emperor’s throne.
The conclusion derived by the highest joint council of the Divine Protection Continent.
However, in reality...
For the Demon Race, fighting against the Divine Protection Continent leaves them very weak, easily defeated at any time, but if pushed to the brink, who knows if celestial soldiers might emerge again to sweep away their top combat strength.
And as they rule by dividing boundaries with the Divine Protection Continent people, the Demon Race can continue to enjoy the resources of one and a half continents. This is the perspective put forward by the seven new Demon Kings.
Initially, no one cared about their opinions—just a few little girls, what do they know about the Demon Race?
If they don’t destroy the world, don’t massacre the living, can they still be called the Demon Race? Still be faithful followers of the Destruction Demon God?
Then the seven new Demon Kings unanimously dropped the line: "Then why don’t you go fight the peerless warrior who slaughtered the Seven Great Demon Kings and beheaded the Demon Dragon Emperor under the World Tree?"
At those words, the remaining high-ranking demons all fell silent.
What a joke, the Seven Great Demon Kings at level 950 and the Supreme Demon Emperor at level 999 all died at his hand, and I’m supposed to fight him? I might as well just commit suicide and at least die quickly...
The identity of this terrifying figure remains unknown, like a mountain weighing down on all the demonic heads, even Grand Duke Mo Luo, with his extreme destructive desire, dared not challenge him.
Now, a mere year after the Day of Demon Demise, the Demon Race has not yet recovered from its loss of vitality. Biding time with the damned coalition forces of the Divine Protection Continent isn’t unfeasible. After a while, once they’re sure those divine troops who vanished without a trace after the demonic demise won’t reappear, they could reclaim the half-retaken Divine Protection Continent and seize the never-conquered Divine Protection Continent in one fell swoop.
By then, the entire Miracle World, under the Demon Race’s rule, would head toward destruction, which would be the best offering to the Destruction Demon God.
But for now...
The seven little girls who worship the Guardian Demon God have taken the Demon King’s throne. Perhaps the strong yet foolish late emperor didn’t foresee that the concubines he carefully selected to represent the Seven Great Demon Kingdoms in the future would use his endorsement to ascend to power as heretics after his death.
If even seven average-talented witches who are heretics could take the Demon King’s position simply because of their striking beauty, then as a faithful follower of the Destruction Demon God, an influential Grand Duke/Legion Commander, should I not also aspire to that position?
Perhaps, after becoming a Demon King, I could even progress further, striving for the Demon Emperor’s throne?
After all, in any case, the Seven Great Demon Kingdoms should be under the Destruction Demon God’s rule, not dictated by followers of the Guardian Demon God!
Yet no demon dares to provoke the Guardian Demon God, otherwise, how could the seven of them have smoothly ascended to the throne simply by the deceased Demon Dragon Emperor’s endorsement?
However, forcibly negating their right to succession is not feasible, but if they are incompetent as Demon Kings, might I, in a moment where they can’t control the Demon Kingdom’s authority, begrudgingly marry her/them for the great cause of the Demon Race? Upon touching her/their hearts, she’d willingly pass the throne to a more powerful and prestigious husband, and wouldn’t even the Demon God have to say that’s "reasonable and justified"?
