The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 78: Smoldering
Talk? Like hell.
Leng Yuan hadn’t given her a chance to speak at all, tormenting her the entire night.
The next day was Sunday. Leng Yuan didn’t have classes, so he got up to make breakfast.
Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t be bothered with him. She just turned over and went back to sleep.
Breakfast was ready.
Leng Yuan went into the room to wake her. He saw the girl’s long hair fanned out beside her, her delicate face tinged with a charming coyness that made his heart soften.
He walked over and lowered his voice. "Breakfast is ready. Want to eat something?"
Gu Jiaojiao turned her head away, showing him only the back of it.
Leng Yuan chuckled.
He had, admittedly, been too rough with her yesterday.
Resigned, he could only continue coaxing her.
"I was wrong, okay? Get up and eat something. If you don’t want to come out, I can bring it to you?"
Gu Jiaojiao ignored him.
In all his life, this was the first time Leng Yuan had ever coaxed someone so gently. And yet, he didn’t feel the slightest bit reluctant.
He thought, ’She really is my little ancestor, sent here to keep me in line!’
"They’re distributing the grain soon. Didn’t you want to go see it? If we go late, you’ll miss it."
A flicker of interest showed in Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes. She’d heard that the grain distribution was the village’s grandest event, and having never seen it, she naturally wanted to witness it now that she had the chance.
Still, Gu Jiaojiao didn’t move. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
After a few more words of gentle coaxing from the man, she finally turned her head with a haughty air, as if to say she was magnanimously accepting his sincere apology.
The sight made the man’s heart melt even more.
’She’s not just my little ancestor; she’s a little cutie, too.’
He reached out to pinch Gu Jiaojiao’s cheek, but she slapped his hand away.
"Don’t think I’ll forgive you that easily. You’re not allowed to bully me like that again, you hear?"
Leng Yuan didn’t say a word. Looking at the girl’s charmingly petulant expression, all he wanted to do was bully her all over again.
Fortunately, he managed to restrain himself and looked away.
"Let me get your clothes. Which outfit do you want to wear today?"
Gu Jiaojiao’s face flushed. "None of your business! Get out!"
Leng Yuan’s throat bobbed. Fearing that if he stayed any longer, Jiaojiao really wouldn’t be able to get up, he immediately reined himself in and left.
Once the man was gone, Gu Jiaojiao cautiously climbed out of bed and quickly threw on a set of clothes.
By the time Gu Jiaojiao finished washing up and came out, Leng Yuan was already serving the food.
The meal consisted of millet and pumpkin porridge, a plate of scrambled eggs with green onions, and two mixed-flour steamed buns.
Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes lit up.
"Where did you get millet and pumpkin?"
As Leng Yuan served Gu Jiaojiao her porridge, his every action was exceptionally gentle and considerate.
He was being incredibly attentive to Gu Jiaojiao.
"Isn’t today the grain distribution? Some families sell off their leftover grain, so I bought some fine grains."
Gu Jiaojiao nodded and, picking up her bowl, began to eat.
Even though it wasn’t fresh-milled, it was still fine grain, and Gu Jiaojiao ate with particular relish.
Watching the satisfied look on the girl’s face as she ate, Leng Yuan decided he would buy more fine grains later.
He was discovering that his little wife was particularly delicate. Families in poorer conditions ate cracked corn porridge; they didn’t even have griddle cakes, just wild vegetable patties, and that was considered a good meal.
But Gu Jiaojiao struggled to even eat griddle cakes, looking at them each time with an expression of such profound suffering it was as if they were her mortal enemy. The sight made the man want to laugh and ache for her at the same time.
He ached for her because she ate so little, and at the same time, he marveled at what kind of family could raise such a pampered little woman.
Gu Jiaojiao had no idea what Leng Yuan was thinking. All she knew was that this was the second truly satisfying meal she’d had since arriving here.
The first had been the time they ate rice and meat, right after they first became intimate.
After finishing their meal, Gu Jiaojiao followed Leng Yuan to the sunning-ground.
It was a large, open space, so the grain distribution was always held here.
Before Gu Jiaojiao even got close, she could see a vast, teeming crowd.
