The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 53: Rental
Captain Chen brought Li Dashan to Leng Yuan’s house at the foot of the mountain.
He knocked on the door and waited.
It was an hour when everyone else was still asleep. Chen Beiguo knew it was rude to disturb someone at this time, but all joking aside, the grain harvest couldn’t be delayed.
Inside, both Gu Jiaojiao and Leng Yuan heard the noise. Leng Yuan started to get out of bed, but Gu Jiaojiao told him to keep sleeping while she got up to open the door.
She hadn’t done much work the day before, but Leng Yuan had been hard at it all night, and her heart ached for her husband.
Gu Jiaojiao went out and opened the door. Seeing the Captain and a man she didn’t recognize standing outside, she couldn’t help but ask.
"Captain, what’s going on?"
When Chen Beiguo saw Gu Jiaojiao come out, he cleared his throat and explained the situation.
"This is Li Dashan, the captain of the Li Jiawan brigade. He wants to borrow our thresher, but since you two made it, the decision is yours."
As he finished, he deliberately emphasized the last few words.
Gu Jiaojiao’s eyes shifted to Li Dashan, and she immediately understood the Captain’s meaning.
Gu Jiaojiao immediately put on a troubled expression.
"Captain, it’s not that I don’t want to lend it. It’s just... that machine was really difficult to build. We used up all our sheet metal, and my heart breaks just thinking about it."
Upon hearing this, Chen Beiguo also began to look troubled, turning to Li Dashan with a pretense of difficulty. "Brother, you see...?"
Li Dashan was a smart man; how could he not understand Chen Beiguo’s intention? He spoke up, somewhat exasperated. "Fine, I’ll pay for it!"
Gu Jiaojiao shook her head. "We’re not selling, but we can rent it to you, Captain Li."
Li Dashan, anxious to get his grain harvested, immediately offered, "I’ll rent it for ten yuan a day."
Gu Jiaojiao glanced at Chen Beiguo. Seeing him nod, she then said, "Alright, I’ll rent it to you for ten yuan a day, Captain Li. You’re getting a good deal."
Li Dashan gave a wry smile and couldn’t help but look at Chen Beiguo. "She certainly knows how to talk. It’s a deal, then. Now, hurry and take me to get the machine."
He was in a rush to get back to his harvest, after all!
Having achieved his goal, Chen Beiguo immediately left with Li Dashan.
Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but chuckle. ’The Captain is really something else, thinking of renting out the machine to make money. That’s a surefire business with no risk.’
Gu Jiaojiao felt like she hadn’t been asleep for long, but a glance at her watch showed it was already past twelve. That meant she had slept for over two hours.
She decided not to go back to sleep and went back into the room.
She told him about Li Dashan renting the thresher and praised the Captain, saying, "The Captain is so smart! We can even make money by renting out the thresher. He didn’t give us those work points for nothing."
Right now, one work point was worth about twenty cents. After deducting their grain rations, the cash they would receive at the end of the year from their work points wasn’t as much as this rental income. The Captain had made a shrewd move.
But Leng Yuan just chuckled and praised Gu Jiaojiao, "My wife is the smartest."
If it had been anyone else, they might not have understood the Captain’s intentions.
A brilliant smile lit up Gu Jiaojiao’s face at the praise. "Of course! And whose wife do you think I am? My husband is so amazing, so I can’t fall short, can I?"
As Gu Jiaojiao spoke, her expression was animated and incredibly cute, making Leng Yuan’s heart race as he watched her. His already deep eyes darkened, and a dangerous glint appeared in his gaze as he looked at her.
When Gu Jiaojiao finished speaking and heard no response, she turned her head, only to meet a pair of incredibly dark eyes that made her tremble.
Belatedly sensing the strange shift in the room’s atmosphere, she gave a dry laugh. "Y-You get some more sleep. I’ll go make lunch."
With that, Gu Jiaojiao scurried away, giving Leng Yuan no chance to react.
Watching her flee in a panic, Leng Yuan couldn’t stop a doting smile from appearing in his eyes.
