The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 39: Bringing Tools
When Gu Jiaojiao heard she would soon be eating fine grains, her eyes shone with an astonishing light.
Seeing how much she liked the idea, Leng Yuan secretly decided to buy more fine grains in the future.
After the meal, Gu Jiaojiao grabbed the water bottle Leng Yuan had prepared and started to head out. But before she could leave, Leng Yuan stopped her.
Gu Jiaojiao turned back in confusion, only to see Leng Yuan raise his hand and place a straw hat on her head.
She instinctively reached up to touch the straw hat, her face breaking into a delighted surprise. "Were you weaving this straw hat for me last night?"
Leng Yuan nodded. "It’s hot on the threshing ground. It’ll be better if you wear this."
Gu Jiaojiao was so moved she could have cried. ’What kind of god-tier husband is this!’
Yesterday at the threshing ground, she had felt like she was being dried out like a salted fish, but she could only endure it. When she looked in the mirror that night, she felt she’d gotten two shades darker, though that was to be expected.
Who didn’t get a tan doing farm work? ’I’ll just buy some skincare products later and nurse my skin back to health.’
But she hadn’t mentioned any of this. She never expected Leng Yuan to be so observant that he’d notice.
Wearing her straw hat and carrying her tools and gloves, Gu Jiaojiao walked out with a cocky swagger.
Leng Yuan found it amusing. He thought his wife was a bit pampered, but she was also incredibly easy to please. The skill to weave a straw hat or a basket was something practically everyone in the Qingshan Team knew.
Even children a few years old could do it. Yet, the look of delighted surprise on Gu Jiaojiao’s face just now was as if she’d received the greatest treasure in the world.
’A real treasure.’
In high spirits, Leng Yuan locked the door and headed to work. Chen JianShe caught up from behind, and seeing the smile on his face, couldn’t help but ask, "Brother Leng, did something good happen? You look so happy."
Leng Yuan raised an eyebrow. "Am I?"
"How could you not be? Look at you, Brother Leng, you’re beaming. Something good must have happened."
Then, a thought struck him, and he lowered his voice. "Brother Leng, I heard from my mom that Sister-in-law made a bet with Wu Cuizhi on the threshing ground. She said she’d get first place, and they wagered one yuan on it."
"What do you think we should do about it? Should we go help Sister-in-law?"
He’d heard after going home yesterday that Gu Jiaojiao hadn’t even done as much in a full day as others had in half. And she still wanted to get first place? What a joke.
But when Leng Yuan heard Chen JianShe’s words, he replied calmly, "There’s no need. Your sister-in-law can handle it herself."
Chen JianShe was stunned.
’Handle what? By admitting defeat?’
But since Brother Leng had said so, he didn’t press the issue. He knew Brother Leng’s temperament well—once he said something, it was set in stone, and he would never change his mind.
「The Threshing Ground.」
Everyone took their usual spots. But compared to yesterday’s diligent work, people’s eyes kept darting over to Gu Jiaojiao and Wu Cuizhi, waiting to laugh at their expense.
Wu Cuizhi was even more blatant than the others. When she saw Gu Jiaojiao arrive, she looked at her as if she were a one-yuan coin and even called out a greeting.
Gu Jiaojiao was left speechless.
’Did you forget we almost got into a fight yesterday?’
Still, she returned the greeting to be polite and walked over.
For a moment, the expected catfight didn’t happen. Instead, people saw the two of them chatting and laughing together.
The gossip-hungry crowd was dumbfounded.
’We craned our necks for *this*?’
Those farther away saw them chatting amicably, but Aunt Zhao, who was closer, could see it clearly: sparks were flying between the two.
Wu Cuizhi grinned, flashing a set of pearly whites. "Gu Zhiqing, is yesterday’s bet still on?"
Gu Jiaojiao nodded. "Of course. I trust what you said still counts as well, Auntie!"
"Naturally. I always keep my word. With so many people watching, how embarrassing would it be to go back on it?" Wu Cuizhi said, aiming the jab directly at Gu Jiaojiao.
