The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 23: The Foul-Mouthed Feng Ergou
Leng Yuan and Chen JianShe were talking together. Feng Ergou was off to the side, watching Chen JianShe suck up to Leng Yuan with a look of disdain.
He recalled how yesterday, because of Leng Yuan, Chen JianShe had grabbed him by the collar and threatened him. He let out a cold, disdainful snort.
"Does he really think he married some golden phoenix from the city? She’s going back to the city eventually. Why would she want to live a hard life in the countryside? He should wake up from his daydream!"
Feng Ergou didn’t keep his voice down.
Chen JianShe had sharp ears and heard every word. The moment someone bad-mouthed his Brother Leng, he wasn’t having it. He threw down his basket, looking like he was about to beat up Feng Ergou.
"Feng Ergou, what the hell did you just say? Say it again if you’ve got the guts."
It was the time when everyone was heading to work, and many villagers on the road heard the commotion, stopping to stare at Feng Ergou.
Being stared at by so many people, Feng Ergou couldn’t back down. He spoke up loudly, "I’m not wrong."
"Gu Jiaojiao is going back to the city someday. She’s not going to stay in the countryside forever. Leng Yuan is definitely going to be abandoned."
Hearing this, Chen JianShe cursed and moved to hit him.
Feng Ergou jumped in fright. He hadn’t expected Chen JianShe to actually do it and immediately dodged to the side.
As for Chen JianShe, he really was about to hit him, but Leng Yuan held him back.
"Brother Leng, that bastard was in the fields yesterday, tarnishing your and your wife’s reputation. I can’t let him get away with it today."
Leng Yuan didn’t let go. He turned to Feng Ergou, his voice calm. "Feng Ergou, this is the first time I’m hearing this, and I hope it’s the last. If I ever hear you spouting nonsense again, you won’t like what happens."
Feng Ergou could still talk tough when facing Chen JianShe, but when it came to Leng Yuan, he didn’t dare.
He immediately chickened out.
"N-No, I wouldn’t dare."
The surrounding villagers had also figured out what was happening and, one after another, began to scold Feng Ergou.
"Feng Ergou, have you got nothing better to do? What business is it of yours what happens with Leng Yuan and Gu Zhiqing? Mind your own business!"
"You’re lazy and have no ambition yourself, yet you dare to curse others. If I hear you say that again, I’ll slap your mouth swollen."
Everyone was angrily lecturing Feng Ergou. He was so scared he nearly peed his pants, and he immediately started stammering an apology to Leng Yuan.
"Mr. Leng, please don’t lower yourself to my level. It was my fault for running my mouth, my fault."
As he spoke, he even slapped himself twice across the face.
Leng Yuan didn’t stoop to his level and left with Chen JianShe.
Seeing how magnanimous Leng Yuan was, everyone started chattering at once to comfort him.
"Mr. Leng, don’t pay him any mind. He’s just jealous of you."
"That’s right. Don’t be angry, Mr. Leng. Our Da Wa caught some fish today, and they’re a good size. I’ll have him bring a couple over to you later."
Chen JianShe watched as Leng Yuan was surrounded by the crowd, his face beaming with pride.
His Brother Leng was a conscientious and responsible teacher at the school. The students in his class all had outstanding grades, with average scores quite a bit higher than those of students in the County Town schools.
This was also why, when other teachers only earned eighteen yuan, his Brother Leng could make twenty-five.
The matter later caused a stir in the County Town, and teachers from there even made a special trip to ask his Brother Leng for advice.
After all, getting an entire class of students, big or small, to score no lower than ninety on exams was a skill not just anyone possessed.
It was precisely because their children’s grades were so good that these parents were all incredibly grateful to Leng Yuan. The contempt the Leng Family sometimes faced from others was mostly due to jealousy over how well-liked Leng Yuan was by the villagers.
Families in the village who had children would often send Leng Yuan any nice food they had at home as a sign of their gratitude.
Even those without children were happy to be on good terms with Leng Yuan. After all, they would always have younger relatives who would eventually need to go to school. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Leng Yuan responded to everyone’s concern one by one, and the scene grew quite lively.
Seeing this, Feng Ergou’s eyes nearly bulged out of his head with jealousy.
He was the same age as Leng Yuan and Chen JianShe, and the three of them had gone to school together since they were young, taught by the same teacher. Leng Yuan could get a perfect score just by listening casually, while Feng Ergou, despite pouring in countless effort, had never once managed it.
And then there was Chen JianShe, who had been following at Leng Yuan’s heels since childhood yet always excluded him. He’d never been able to stand Leng Yuan, not since they were kids.
Now, Leng Yuan had married the most beautiful sent-down youth for miles around, while no woman was willing to marry him. He grew even more resentful!
’Just you wait. Gu Jiaojiao will go back to the city sooner or later!’
