The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 111 - 110: Stirring Up Trouble
By the next day, the news that something had happened to Gu Jiaojiao had spread throughout the entire village, and word even reached the Educated Youth Station.
At the same time, the smell of cooking meat drifted from the homes of Chen JianShe and Zhao Tiezhu, who had gone to help Leng Yuan.
Someone even saw Xu Chongshan coming back from outside in the morning, carrying a bag full of eggs.
The person who saw him took a quick glance and estimated there were over thirty!
Anyone with a discerning eye knew it must have something to do with Leng Yuan going up the mountain the night before.
Some people wanted to ask, but all three families were tight-lipped and wouldn’t say a word.
But while outsiders kept quiet, trouble was brewing within one of the families.
Xu Chongshan knew his family wasn’t the most harmonious.
That was why he had traded his share of the wild boar meat for eggs to bring home.
The eggs were meant to help Yu Fangfang recover, so Xu Chongshan took them directly to their room.
Xu Wenwan saw this and wasn’t happy, but she didn’t say anything in the end.
At the lunch table, staring at the same unchanging meal she’d had for seven days straight, she finally couldn’t take it anymore. She turned to her second brother, her voice turning into a coquettish whine.
"Second Brother, didn’t you bring back some eggs? I want to eat eggs!"
She had been back for seven days, and for seven days she’d eaten nothing but two-grain flour steamed buns and sweet potato congee. She really couldn’t stand it anymore.
She craved eggs. Just the thought of their aroma made her mouth water uncontrollably.
Seeing how desperately Xu Wenwan craved them, Xu Chongshan felt a pang of sympathy.
She was his little sister, after all. Xu Chongshan wasn’t one to truly hold a grudge against her.
But these eggs were for his wife to regain her strength.
The doctor had specifically said she needed to be well-nourished, or she was at risk of a miscarriage.
With that in mind, Xu Chongshan explained patiently.
"Little Sis, your sister-in-law is pregnant and she’s very weak. She needs the eggs. The next time I get my hands on some other treats, I’ll make sure you get some."
But Xu Wenwan wouldn’t let it go.
’He’s really changed,’ she thought.
’He kicked me for Yu Fangfang, and now he won’t even spare a single egg for me.’
"Second Brother, do you even see me as your sister anymore? If this is how it is, I might as well just go back to the city!"
"None of you like me! No one in this family likes me at all."
Xu Wenwan felt incredibly wronged.
’Even though I’m destined for great things later,’ she thought, ’every single day I’m living through right now feels like torture.’
’There’s nothing good to eat, nothing good to wear... this life is just miserable.’
’When I was writing my novel, I didn’t think about it. I was so focused on the main characters’ romance that I completely overlooked all the hard labor.’
’Only now that I’m actually living it do I realize how hard it is.’
’This is an era of poverty and backwardness, an era with nothing.’
The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt, and her eyes began to redden.
Xu Chongshan was at a loss for a moment. "Little Sis, don’t cry. Next time I go up the mountain, I’ll see if I can find some wild bird eggs for you."
But Xu Wenwan was unappeased. "Your sister-in-law is just one person. How many can she possibly eat? You brought back a whole bag of eggs, so what’s the big deal if I have two? Second Brother, you don’t care about me at all."
Xu Wenwan thought back to the novel she had written. In her story, all three of her older brothers had doted on her unconditionally and treated her wonderfully.
Why was everything she was experiencing now completely different from her novel?
’Especially Second Brother. He even laid a hand on me!’
’And not only that, he took over my room and won’t give it back.’
Xu Wenwan felt that this Second Brother was nothing like the doting version from her book.
’I don’t like this Second Brother.’
Xu Chongshan wasn’t about to indulge Xu Wenwan.
He could tolerate it if Xu Wenwan said a few things about him, but badmouthing his wife? That was out of the question.
His tone became incredibly firm.
"I brought those eggs back for my wife to build up her strength. She’s pregnant now, so she deserves to eat well."
"And don’t you forget, what almost happened to your sister-in-law was all because of you."
Every time Xu Chongshan remembered the image of Yu Fangfang standing there, deathly pale and bleeding, his anger toward his sister flared up again.
Hearing his accusatory tone, Xu Wenwan’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"It’s not like I did it on purpose that day! Besides, isn’t it your wife’s own fault? If she couldn’t carry the luggage, she shouldn’t have. She was the one who insisted on showing off her strength, and now I’m the one to blame?"
Yu Fangfang stared in utter disbelief.
’I almost had a miscarriage from carrying Xu Wenwan’s luggage, and now it’s my fault?’
In that moment, Yu Fangfang lost all hope for her sister-in-law.
Xu Chongshan, however, was furious.
SLAM! He smashed his bowl down on the table and glared at Xu Wenwan.
"You have the nerve to feel wronged? Look at all the trouble you’ve caused since you got back! Our entire family has been shamed because of you, and you still have the audacity to cry?"
