The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 106 - 105: Wild Polygonum multiflorum
’This is a real treasure.’
Polygonum multiflorum was already expensive, and this one was not only wild but also looked quite old.
She had been planning to launch a few high-end products but was struggling to source some of the rare medicinal herbs. Finding this Polygonum multiflorum was a truly pleasant surprise.
However, the Polygonum multiflorum was growing on a steep cliff. She would have to go back and figure out a way to get it down. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Gu Jiaojiao’s joyful mood helped her relax a bit, and she chose another direction to head out.
She had no idea if it was the right way, but she found plenty of other medicinal herbs along the path and didn’t forget to pull them up.
Adhering to the principle that waste was a shame, she not only filled the basket on her back but also stuffed a good amount into the burlap sack in her hand.
The medicinal herbs were a comfort, but she still couldn’t find the way down the mountain.
Just then, the forest slowly grew dark, and Gu Jiaojiao started to get scared.
She wanted to cry.
BOO HOO HOO!
「At the foot of the mountain.」
Leng Yuan returned home, carrying firewood on a shoulder pole.
The courtyard gate was locked.
His brow furrowed.
Usually, when he came back, she would be at home and leave the gate unlocked for him. He had grown used to it.
Seeing the locked gate now, he felt a momentary sense of unease.
He unlocked the gate, set down the firewood, and went into the kitchen. Everything was just as he had left it, except for the bowls and chopsticks from breakfast, which had been washed clean and put away in the cupboard.
He glanced at the flour sack; it was still rolled up the way he had left it that morning.
Gu Jiaojiao had a different habit than him; she liked to weigh down the opening of the flour sack with something after using it.
The flour sack hadn’t been touched. Not a single stick of the firewood stacked in the corner was missing. Leng Yuan opened the water vat—none of the water had been used either.
’Gu Jiaojiao didn’t eat lunch at home?’
A sense of unease crept into his heart. He walked straight out of the courtyard and headed toward the village.
People who saw Leng Yuan on the road all greeted him, but he just gave a hurried response before moving on.
This left a few of the aunties a little displeased.
After all, they were his elders. How could Leng Yuan be so impolite?
However, another auntie nearby saw Leng Yuan’s hurried figure and called out to him.
"Leng Yuan, are you looking for Gu Jiaojiao? I saw her go up the mountain this morning and haven’t seen her come down. I thought she’d returned long ago. Don’t tell me she’s still up there!"
Leng Yuan’s expression changed drastically.
Suppressing his anxiety, he thanked the woman, turned right around and went home, grabbed a flashlight and a sickle, and hurried up the mountain.
Only then did the other aunties realize he was in a rush to find his wife.
"Why hasn’t that Gu Zhiqing come down the mountain yet? It’s so late! There are wild boars and wolf cubs up there. She hasn’t run into danger, has she?"
"Should we call for people to help?"
"Help with what? Leng Yuan’s skills are just like his father’s. If we actually brought a few people to help, they’d just slow him down."
Years ago, Leng Yuan’s father could kill a wild boar all by himself. Later, Leng Yuan also started going up the mountain frequently and never once ran into trouble. They all knew he had inherited all of his father’s skills.
That’s why Leng Yuan lived a relatively decent life. They knew the reason why, so no one was jealous.
After all, Daqing Mountain belonged to everyone. They didn’t dare go up it themselves, so being jealous was pointless.
As Leng Yuan headed up the mountain with his things, the news that Gu Jiaojiao was in trouble was also spread throughout the village by the aunties.
When Chen JianShe heard, he grabbed a machete from the woodshed and was about to head up the mountain.
Mrs. Chen grabbed him and held him back.
"What are you doing? Going up the mountain this late, do you have a death wish?"
Chen JianShe wouldn’t listen. "Brother Leng already went up. I have to go help too. There’s strength in numbers."
Mrs. Chen smacked him on the back of the head.
"With your piddling skills? Help? You’d be lucky not to slow Leng Yuan down! Don’t make it so he has to rescue you before he even finds his wife. You’d just be making things worse!"
That stung Chen JianShe.
’Leave it to my own mother to hit a nerve with every word.’
But Chen JianShe was still worried. Fine, he wouldn’t go up the mountain. But he could wait at the foot of it. If something happened, he could rush up immediately.
