The Dark Rebirth of Pandora: Revenge of the Abyss-Chapter 309: Surprise Judgment
Chapter 309: Surprise Judgment
"...Damn it..." I can only curse when out of nowhere I disappear from the place where I was with the Pope and appear in front of a figure that I honestly didn’t want to see.
"Aradia Hecate Cailleach, what do you need from me?" I mutter irritatedly to her, I was busy gaining the interest of Pope Lucius, I know that when I come to this place, time stops.
However, it is still inconvenient to be pulled out of nowhere, I was there and in an instant I was here, it’s almost a kidnapping.
"Pandora Aegis Oblivion, Goddess of the Apocalypse, you are being summoned for your trial, if you lose, you will be erased from existence," Aradia says coldly as her black wings move a little.
"WHAT?" I’m shocked, what the hell is this? Am I being judged for what and why?
"You have 10 minutes to prepare, during these 10 minutes I will inform you of the mistake you made and the reason for the trial," Aradia says as she starts to walk.
The setting is a verdant plain that seems infinite while the sky is nocturnal and starry with many planets in the background that seem too close.
"Explain it now! Why the hell am I running this risk?" I speak with urgency, this is not fair to me, obviously this trial cannot be for normal crimes, after all, most of the goddesses here have committed worse things than normal crimes.
"The one responsible for the trial and summons of all the goddesses is Elysia Luminos, the Goddess of Humans, she came to me demanding a trial against the error you committed," Aradia says as she passes through a rift in space.
’Damn, it had to be that miserable bitch to want to fuck me over’ It’s obvious that this manipulative bitch has her finger in this, I just wonder what she said to make Aradia accept this stupidity.
"What’s the crime?" I question as I pass through the rift and appear inside a courtroom, here are all the goddesses, even Delphina and my mother are here, but what really surprises me is that Tsukuyomi is also here.
’Why is Tsukuyomi here?’ She should be in my castle, but there she is, she looks at me and gives a shy nod.
"Pandora, the crime you committed was to drag a deity from outside into this universe, according to the system, all existing goddesses have received permission from the Primordial Goddess to bear the title."
"However, the Goddess of the Moon Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto should not be here bearing the title of goddess," Aradia speaks seriously as she steps up to the judge’s area, it seems she will be the judge.
"Wait!! Am I being judged for bringing Tsukuyomi with me?! This is an outrage!" I speak, finding this completely absurd.
"Whether it’s an outrage or not will be judged in the courtroom, but know that Elysia has every right to initiate a trial just as any other goddess here can also start a trial if the crime is proven."
"And we have evidence that you brought a goddess from outside, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto was inserted into the system upon entering this world, but still bears the title of Goddess of the Moon, and that’s proof enough that you brought another goddess with you."
’How the hell did Elysia know about this?’ I can only wonder how Elysia noticed that I brought someone with me.
"Haaa..." I can only sigh as I go to what I think is my place since I am the accused of a crime.
"Pandora!! You better win," Tsukuyomi speaks from her place a little timidly.
"...Of course I’m going to win this piece of shit trial" It was 100% unexpected, I wasn’t even warned beforehand, I was just pulled into a trial out of nowhere.
"Aradia, now that we’re all here, I believe I can start, don’t you agree?" Elysia speaks, rising.
"Yes, all the goddesses are present."
"Hey! I don’t have a lawyer to defend myself, how does my defense look?" I question, seeing that they didn’t give me anything to defend myself.
"There are no lawyers here, Pandora, you have to defend yourself during the trials," Aradia speaks, leaving me irritated.
"Isn’t this completely unfair? This old witch must be over billions of years old and I’m only 1 year old, it’s obvious she knows a lot more than I do!" I say urgently.
"O-Old witch?! YOU BITCH, WHO DO YOU THINK..." Elysia was going to complain, but is stopped.
"Silence," Aradia speaks with authority.
"No fights in the courtroom, Pandora, your problem is not relevant during this trial."
"Tsk" I’m at a complete disadvantage here.
"Elysia, state your accusation," Aradia speaks as she picks up a paper and pen, it seems she is the one taking care of the notes from the proceedings in the courtroom.
"Okay, my accusation is simple, I noticed a powerful spatial disturbance, and with that I was able to prove that Pandora temporarily left and returned to our universe, which is not wrong."
"Of course, there’s nothing wrong with her leaving and coming back, but during her return she brought another goddess with her."
"Following the logic of the system, the Primordial Goddess Oriane Ilithya, whose real name should not be mentioned lightly, made it clear that Goddesses need system approval."
"Even if a goddess’s daughter is born, she will not be a goddess unless approved, which already makes it clear that the number of goddesses is limited and requires prior approval."
"And with that, I come to the conclusion that this...filthy thing sitting there committed a serious sin against the orders of the Primordial Goddess, Pandora brought a Goddess from outside into our universe."
"Which is a clear violation of the system, the Goddess of the Moon Tsukuyomi should not exist in our universe, she should continue in the place from where she came," Elysia speaks with a presumptuous smile.
"Pandora, do you confirm this?" Aradia questions.
"Yes...it’s true..." It’s not a lie, Elysia is right that the system needs to approve to become a goddess, and she is also right that I brought Tsukuyomi with me.
"B-But in my defense, Elysia also summons humans from outside, doesn’t that also count as an infraction?" Elysia has that magic circle that keeps summoning heroes, shouldn’t that break some rule?
"Pandora, that is not against any rule, the summoned humans are not beyond the rules of the system even if they have unique abilities, so your defense is irrelevant," When Aradia says this, I bite my lip.
’How the hell am I supposed to defend myself? There has to be some loophole that Elysia didn’t notice.’
"And why isn’t the Primordial Goddess here too? Isn’t she the creator of this rule? Why isn’t she present?" I say, noting that she is not here, if she were, maybe it would be easier for me to defend myself.
"...She won’t come to this trial," Aradia says only that.
"Elysia, you can question Pandora now," Aradia speaks while taking some notes.
"Pandora, why did you bring this goddess with you?" Elysia starts with a simple question.
"Because I got her pregnant, and I couldn’t just leave my son behind..."
"And do you think such a thing is above the orders of the Primordial Goddess? The one who created this universe," Elysia interrupts me, speaking with arrogance.
"Well...no..." Obviously what I want cannot be above what the Primordial Goddess wants, she is the creator of everything, it is obvious that her rules are "absolute".
"Pandora, then you brought a Goddess from outside, broke an important rule, and may have caused a possible imbalance among the goddesses, do you admit this?"
"...Yes..." I am at a total disadvantage, I look at Delphina who seems worried, and I look at my mother who just stares at me, it seems they can’t just speak when they want.
"Aradia, you see, she herself has admitted her crimes, I think we can end this here, right?" Elysia speaks while my mind searches for a loophole, no matter how small, in this rule.
’Wait...absolute rules...rules...there’s a flaw there!!’
"Elysia, won’t you let me ask questions?" I question with a diabolical smile as we both look at Aradia, who nods in confirmation.
"Tsk, speak then, Pandora, what do you want to know?" Elysia speaks, annoyed.
"Elysia, where is it written that it’s a rule to only have goddesses the system approves?"
"H-Hun?" She makes a confused sound.
"As far as I know, the system has never said such a thing, it’s true that a goddess can only emerge with system approval, but nothing says this is a rule, especially because Tsukuyomi was already a true goddess before."
"Tsukuyomi, open the system and read your title for everyone in the room," I say arrogantly, and soon Tsukuyomi obeys.
"P-Pandora, it says G-Goddess of the Moon," She speaks, and Elysia realizes what I’m getting at.
"N-No, that’s not..." Elysia tries to speak, but Aradia stops her with a gesture, it’s obvious she can’t just interrupt me.
"Elysia, as you can see, the system itself recognizes her title as legitimate, the world she came from does not have a system, so this title is given to her by the system of this universe itself, and furthermore, the Primordial Goddess has already allowed the stars to live in this universe."
"This shows something we all know, the Primordial Goddess is benevolent to us, so why do you think Tsukuyomi’s presence is a problem? The mere fact that she has the title of goddess doesn’t prove that the system accepts her?"
"And of course, she’s not stealing anyone’s title, she’s the goddess of the moon and isn’t negatively affecting anyone, not to mention she’s absurdly weak compared to all of us here."
"T-That..." Elysia gets nervous.
"And I’ll say more, the system has never, ever denied Tsukuyomi access to this universe, in fact, I was only able to bring Tsukuyomi with me thanks to the system, the fact that the system itself allows this isn’t enough proof that the Primordial Goddess accepts Tsukuyomi’s presence in our universe?"
"..." Now she’s the one who seems nervous and unsure of what to say, it seems Elysia had limited information about me and Tsukuyomi, and that’s good, it means she’s more limited than I thought.
This calms me down, I thought she was watching my whole life, I believe she may have been able to find out these things because of the dimensional rift that the Star made for me to temporarily switch worlds.
In other words, she can’t really know what I’m doing, it was only for a brief moment, and she arrogantly thought she could screw me over with little information.
"Tsk..." She clicks her tongue irritably.
"Aradia, my questions end here, as you can see, this trial is a waste of time caused by a misinterpretation of the will of the Primordial Goddess."
"I believe we should be sent back immediately, I was busy and all this is extremely unsatisfactory," I speak angrily, I was torturing someone, stopping like this is annoying.
"Elysia, do you have anything else to add?" Aradia questions.
"...No..." Elysia just says a low no, while I hear Delphina laughing at Elysia, I look at my mother who has only a subtle amused smile on her face.
’That was very close...’ If Elysia had more information, I could have lost, Elysia’s lack of information limited the things I had to find loopholes for.
"After reviewing the case from scratch, I declare that Pandora Aegis Oblivion is innocent, I deeply apologize for making all of you waste time," Aradia apologizes, which surprises some of us.
"Thanks to Pandora, I realize a flaw in the interpretation of the system, as Pandora said, there is no rule explicitly stated against other goddesses, which just indicates that any future trial using such a non-existent rule will not be accepted," Aradia says, banging a gavel on the table.
Soon I reappear back in the same place still with the knife in my hand, I wanted to talk to my mother, but as I asked Aradia, she really sent us back immediately.
"Any problem, Pandora?" Pope Lucius asks.
"No, just thinking about how I should cause more pain to this unclean demon," I speak with a fake smile.
’Damn you, Elysia, that bitch is going to pay me dearly in the future.’
