Chapter 227: Something Important

Lilith was already awake before the first light of dawn. She lay on the bed, arms wrapped around Hades as she watched him sleep. Occasionally, she would run her fingers across his jaw, nose, and lips, and no matter how gently she touched him, he still stirred awake, only to ask if everything was alright before resuming his sleep.

The fear of what would happen after the ritual lingered in her mind, and Salistra’s words didn’t make her feel any better. Lilith wondered what it was that could possibly go wrong. So many possibilities had run through her mind, each one only slightly worse than the other.

Regardless of what was going to happen, she wouldn’t go back on her word to perform the ritual. If it meant Hades was going to be saved, then she would do anything.

She just had to enjoy his presence as much as possible without worrying about the future which was tonight. The ritual was going to begin that night, and Lilith was scared..scared of failure, of letting everybody down, and of things going terribly wrong. She was supposed to feel a little sense of comfort knowing the older witch would be there, but it didn’t quite comfort her enough, as she was aware the witch could only give commands. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Is everything alright? You’ve been awake for a while," Hades’s voice, thick with sleep, pulled her from her thoughts.

She smiled. "Yes, everything is alright. I couldn’t go back to sleep, and I didn’t want to get up yet."

"Alright. Are you sure everything’s alright?"

"Yes, I’m certain." She scooted closer to him, her fingers caressing his hair. "Did you sleep well? You could hardly keep your eyes open."

Hades chuckled lightly. "I couldn’t. I had a wonderful sleep, I kept falling deeper and deeper asleep, if that makes sense."

Lilith’s smile broadened. "I’m glad you enjoyed your night. Today will be quite a busy one for you."

"Yes, I almost forgot that." He looked back at her, grabbing her gently by the jaw. "Perhaps I could cancel that and spend the day with you here in bed," Hades teased.

Lilith rolled her eyes, laughing at his words. "That’s not a very kingly thing to do, Your Highness. You should devote a little time to your people. Besides, they need you too."

"I know, I know." He kissed her on the lips. "You’re right, love, but first..." he kissed her again, "I’m terribly hungry, and I believe you are too." Then again, "We should have breakfast together." And again, "What do you think about that?"

Lilith threw her arms around his neck, pulling him even closer. "That sounds like a wonderful idea," she whispered against his lips before pressing her mouth to his. Hades immediately deepened the kiss, as his hands moved around her waist, lifting her over him, her legs on each side of his waist as she straddled him.

With them already both naked, it didn’t take long before they were both lost in an intense lovemaking session with Lilith moving on him, her hands rested on his shoulders, nails digging into his skin, while Hades’ hands wrapped tightly around her waist, guiding her movements. His face was buried in the crook of her neck as he kissed and licked her skin.

An hour later, they were both freshened up and properly dressed for breakfast. With their hands locked together, they made their way to the dining room, where they found Viktor and Charlotte already seated.

They exchanged greetings as Lilith and Hades took their seats at the table, both sitting next to each other, while Viktor and Charlotte did the same.

The servants began bringing in the food shortly after, and they started eating while making small conversations amongst themselves.

From the corner of her eye, Lilith noticed something unusual between Viktor and Charlotte. There was a different air around them, something subtle but noticeable in the way they spoke to each other. Viktor had touched Charlotte’s arm twice, which was unusual, as Lilith had never seen them being this close before.

Perhaps there was something going on between them. She would have to ask Charlotte about it later.

"The food for the villagers, has it been arranged in the carriage?" Hades asked, pulling their attention toward him.

"Yes, I had the servants take care of that about twenty minutes ago. Everything is perfectly arranged," Viktor replied, his eyes flickering briefly to Lilith before returning to Hades.

"Very well. We shall leave in the next hour. We need to distribute the food to as many villagers as possible today. I hope you don’t have any other business to attend to?"

"Not at all, Your Highness. I’ve settled all my business beforehand."

"Very well then." Hades wiped the side of his lips with a napkin. "I shall pay Lucian a visit. You should enjoy the rest of the meal."

He pressed a kiss to Lilith’s temple before walking away, the sound of his boots clicking against the floor until it faded beyond the doors.

Lilith turned her attention back to the two people in front of her, her eyes narrowing. "Both of you, is there something I should know about?"

The question caught them off guard, and they exchanged a quick, knowing glance. "I... we..." Viktor began, stumbling over his words.

"I think Viktor has something important to tell you," Charlotte said quickly, standing up. "I’ll leave you two to talk." She excused herself and walked out of the room, the door closing softly behind her.

They both watched her leave before Lilith’s gaze shifted back to Viktor, who was now tugging at the collar of his shirt nervously. "I think we should take a walk," he said.

"Very well." Lilith rose to her feet, and Viktor followed. They walked out of the castle, following a path that led toward the stables in silence. Though the sun was already up, a chill still lingered in the air.

The silence grew heavier with each passing moment until Lilith finally broke it. "What’s going on between you and Charlotte? Are you both lovers now?"

Shock crossed Viktor’s face. "What!? I... no..."

Lilith raised a brow. "No? You’re not lovers?"

"No, that’s not what I meant. I just wasn’t expecting you to ask that," Viktor stammered, his cheeks and neck turning red with embarrassment.

Lilith frowned slightly. "Why are you so surprised? Isn’t that what you wanted to tell me about?"

He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Not really. And about Charlotte and me... well, we have no intention of keeping our relationship a secret."

"So, you are lovers?"

"Well, yes. You could say that," Viktor admitted with a small chuckle.

"That’s nice. Quite unexpected, though," Lilith said with a warm smile. "But I’m happy for you."

He smiled back. "Thank you. It means a lot to me that you approve of our relationship."

Lilith tilted her head slightly, wondering why he’d said that. "So, what is it you wanted to tell me?" she asked.

Viktor swallowed hard, the earlier nervousness returning. Whatever it was, it seemed serious, serious enough to make even him uneasy, Lilith thought.
