Chapter 455: A Yes

It was already very dark when Dani and Abel arrived at Valcrez and yet they were just in time to be present at the celebration their Queen Mineah prepared for the new Minister of Justice, none other than their good friend, Laura. As soon as she paid respect to their King and Queen, Dani immediately excused herself to approach Laura while Abel stayed since the king was still talking with him.

"Oh, I knew you got this!" Dani beamed as she hugged Laura and congratulated her friend.

"Did you two go straight here?" It was Krisha who asked. Dani nodded and said, "I already missed Laura’s trials so I wouldn’t dare miss her victory party."

Laura chuckled and said, "Well, you shouldn’t or else I’ll sulk..."

Dani and the rest chuckled. It felt great for them to gather like this like old times. The five of them enjoying casual conversations over drinks like this was such a breather.

"How is Princess Ezme? Is she getting along well with the rest of the family?" Zaila curiously asked her.

"Yes, we all like her..." Dani commented with a reassuring smile. She found a sweet and naughty sister in the vampire princess. She was straightforward and someone who was vocal about her thoughts. Some might find it annoying and childish but Dani preferred that. She was a great match for a stubborn and aloof brother of hers. Also, she found some of the princess’s advice delightful regarding Abel.

Dani smiled when she saw their Queen approaching their direction.

"Your Majesty..." they curtly greeted her with a wide and triumphant smile.

Queen Mineah smiled back at them before looking at Laura and said, "Congratulations, I’m so proud of you."

Laura’s face lit up as her eyes welled a bit. "Thank you so much, Your Majesty. I’m really excited to be here with you and the rest," she sincerely thanked. "I promise that I’ll do my best to do my duty. I won’t let you down!"

Zaila chuckled at her friend’s declaration. "Ah, we have a Minister in our ranks now. It’s only a pity that we’re not allowed to witness that final test," she jokingly sighed. "We didn’t even hear of it until news spread like wildfire of how our dear Laura got the position with her answer!"

"Laura truly worked hard to achieve her dreams!" Dani commented with a grin.

"It all paid off, even if I missed all of your weddings..." Laura murmured with a pout as her eyes darted to Niran, Krisha, and her. "But don’t worry... I’ll treat you all married women to something really nice as soon as our schedules line up."

"Wait, how about me?! I’m not a wife yet," Zaila complained with a frown. "Will I be left behind?!" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

That comment made them all chuckle, and Laura snorted as she responded, "Hmm... of course, you’ll join us."

"Finally, I won’t feel like an outcast by being the only single shadow maiden in the palace. I finally have someone I can drag along with me to mingle with other men," Zaila excitedly hummed her eyes sparkling as she hugged Laura’s arm. "Ah, thank you so much for arriving at the right time, Laura. I really missed you!"

"What are you talking about? It’s not like you can drag Laura with you anytime," Krisha chided. "Remember, our Laura is technically the law now next to our King and Queen. She has an image to uphold, so don’t you try to taint her with your shenanigans."

Zaila pouted her lips at that, no longer commenting further as her eyes then darted to Niran and Dani.

"The husbands are approaching to take the wives soon, I guess..." she scoffed before she looked at Krisha and snorted. "Hmm... I do wonder if I will be happy that no one will take you away from us tonight to celebrate further. Or maybe I should pity you since while you do have a husband, you still have cold nights without him in your arms..."

Dani chuckled at Zaila’s usual antics. Sure enough, her words came true as Prince Raul appeared to take Niran away, and he was soon followed by Abel who then excused Dani from them.

She couldn’t help but feel a bit tense as she stared at Abel’s hand currently holding hers. Her cheeks turned red as she unknowingly smiled. Their time with her family was short but it was all so memorable. But the smile on her face faded remembering how she took note to ask Abel and why he would allow her brother to have his way on him during those times. She knew her brother well and even though he had his alibi, she saw nothing but him being simply petty around her husband.

She turned to Abel and directly asked, "How come you let my brother bully you?"

"It’s fine. I think Atlas is simply testing my patience while getting to know me more," Atlas chuckled as he waved her off. "Although, I have a feeling that he intentionally dragged me off to sleep with him because he’s actually scared of Ezme."

"Huh?" Dani snorted. Princess Ezme seemed like a fine lady to her. "Why would he be scared of his future wife?"

"Oh, haven’t you heard how stubborn and playful that brat can be? She has quite a reputation here," Abel noted before letting off a devious smile. "But anyway, enough with them. Let’s focus on each other now that we finally have our privacy..."

Dani gulped. "But I haven’t answered you yet."

It was true, after all. She still hadn’t given him a response when he proposed that they stop their agreement and make their marriage a reality. Her husband didn’t push the topic ever since though, and she was honestly glad that he wasn’t bringing it up for her sake.

At her response, Abel stopped walking as he looked at her intently. "I interpreted your silence back then as a yes, so I thought we had mutual agreement about it."

Dani’s face soured. "But I feel like I’m not ready yet."

"Don’t you like me?" Abel directly asked.
