Chapter 111: Chapter 108: Security Room

The man had no idea he was being targeted. Before he even reached the pool, another figure leapt from the residential building behind him. A pale hand clamped over his mouth, and a karate chop knocked him out cold.

His body was kicked into the pool by his assailant, landing next to Su Mo. A mocking voice sounded above her head, "Flat Pot?"

She looked up, and the man with dark red almond eyes squatted at the edge of the pool, smiling as he reached out a hand to her. Even in the darkness, the pallor of his palm was startlingly white, making her heart falter.

"Li Chuan?" Su Mo didn’t seem inclined to take his hand. She pulled herself up from the pool, using the side as a fulcrum, and with the help of her Light as a Feather Skill, she leaped out of the pool to confront him.

"How did you get out?"

Li Chuan withdrew his hand and shrugged, those almond eyes conveying innocence: "Climbed out."

Lu Chen hurried over, and his cold gaze meticulously scanned Su Mo from head to toe. Only when he was sure she was alright did he relax. Jianxiong followed, crossing his arms and speaking gruffly, "Really like a bad penny."

Li Qian’s brows were furrowed as he looked at Li Chuan’s amiable face, "It looks like we need to make our move quickly. Their superpower user will soon discover his absence."

"Let’s go," Lu Chen said as he took Su Mo’s hand, brushing past Li Chuan without sparing him a glance.

He didn’t seem to mind and leisurely followed them.

"Wait," Su Mo said, tugging at his arm to halt him.

She pulled Lu Chen to the edge of the pool and then led him down into it. There were several drain outlets at the bottom of the pool, which had turned somewhat black due to being dry for a long time. In the darkness, the drains seemed like pitch-black voids, bottomless pits.

For some reason, her heart skipped a beat. She led Lu Chen to one of the drains and crouched down, whispering, "Just now, I heard some noises coming from below."

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with caution, "You listen."

The man obliged and leaned down. Everything around them went eerily quiet while Jianxiong and Li Qian held their breath, watching.

"Roar!"

Along with the sound of chewing, a roar emanated from the pipe, passing through the iron grate above and reached their ears.

It was the grating sound of bone being gnawed and the sharp scraping noise of claws against the walls.

A shiver ran through them all.

Lu Chen knelt down again, one knee to the ground, ear pressed against the pipe, his expression serious as he cocked his head towards Su Mo.

"I’m guessing there’s something huge down there," she murmured to him.

After another round of guttural roars, Lu Chen stood up and pulled her to her feet, "We need to move fast."

"Boss, what was that?" Jianxiong asked as they climbed out of the pool.

"Something we definitely don’t want to encounter," Li Qian replied. It was unfortunate he couldn’t use his spiritual power, or else he might have been able to investigate further.

"Let’s go, everyone," Li Chuan said, glancing over the pool, his dark red pupils shimmering with an eerie light. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

They crossed the pool, avoiding the patrolling residents. The control room, as Su Mo and the others discovered from behind a nearby residential building, looked more like a security booth. It sat right by the main gate they had entered that morning, with a couple of large windows at the back, through which a person inside could be seen, guarded by four others outside.

A few men stood atop the nearby walls not too far ahead, standing tall and unarmed, their gazes arrogant, clearly they were superpower users.

"How shall we get past them?" Li Chuan asked, leaning lazily against the wall.

"I’ll go."

Li Qian straightened his clothes, adjusted his glasses, and put on his standard benign smile before stepping out of the darkness.

"Who’s there!"

The four in the security room immediately spotted him, "Stop right there."

Li Qian didn’t halt his steps but walked to the back of the security room, creating a blind spot from where Su Mo and the others were positioned.

As long as he could capture their attention, they would be able to sneak in.

In the distance, Li Qian was chatting with those people, his hand resting on his back, ready to make a move.

Whatever he said made the four gents grab his shoulder and pull him aside to talk, causing the originally vigilant few on the wall to also turn their bodies and continue watching outside the wall.

Only the people in the security room were left.

Li Qian’s shoulders were each slung by an arm, and he moved his fingers behind his back, signaling them.

"You guys wait here, I’ll go," Su Mo said softly, giving Lu Chen’s large hand a squeeze and a wink before dashing out.

Her physical strength and endurance had both leapt incredibly due to the influence of her superpower, and even without using her abilities, she was both fast and silent.

In the blink of an eye, she was in front of the security room, gently turning the doorknob as those hidden in the shadows sat ready to provide support at any moment.

"Boss, can Little Sister handle it?" Jianxiong’s heart was racing with Su Mo’s movements, anxious she might be discovered and something might go wrong.

"Better than you," Lu Chen replied indifferently, full of confidence in Su Mo.

The door creaked open, and Su Mo slipped inside with the Flat Pot ready, waiting for the man to stand up to swing at him. She did not expect the person sitting there to not even turn his head, but to speak directly, "There’s something odd about the basement of Building 3, the guard in this surveillance feed has gone missing, go check it out."

He hadn’t suspected at all that the person coming in wasn’t one of their own, and as Su Mo approached with the Flat Pot, she softly said, "I’ll check it out in a bit."

"What.." The man sitting finally realized something was amiss and quickly turned his head.

A loud thump sounded, and before he could even see the face clearly, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

Su Mo quickly dragged his body to prevent him from falling to the ground.

"What was that sound?"

The residents outside, who were engaged in conversation, all turned their heads, as Li Qian silently cursed, knowing that the two windows behind him easily revealed the interior of the security room.

Su Mo crouched on the ground and lifted the unconscious man’s hand, making a waving gesture.

Li Qian hurried to recapture the attention of the strong men.

"You fellows are living among zombies downstairs; I wouldn’t dare let my brothers stay here," he said.

Seeing that the person in the security room was still waving, they turned back at these words and followed through.

"Hey, brother, you can’t talk like that. My old mother is still alive in there, how can you call her a zombie?" they replied, shaking their heads to refute the claim vehemently.

Relieved, Su Mo’s breath eased, as did the once rapidly heaving chest of Jianxiong hidden behind the wall.

"I had no idea that the woman by Lu Chen’s side could be so entertaining," Li Chuan witnessed the whole event and his smile deepened with wicked charm when he looked at Su Mo.

Lu Chen turned his head, his icy face carrying a murderous intent, "Put away your thoughts."

"Of course," Li Chuan stepped back two paces, making a surrendering gesture.

Su Mo poked her head out, observing that the people outside no longer paid attention to the security room. She pushed the unconscious man further back and crouched between the table and him, perfectly concealing herself before turning to face the screen.
