The CEO's Wife Is Super Charming-Chapter 375 - 372: Dead End
The encirclement in the forest was shrinking, and Elliana Lyle and Joy Lyle could only retreat back to the cliff’s edge. They could hear the sound of searchers in the forest, getting closer and closer.
Standing on the edge of the cliff, they looked down. The cliff was over ten meters high, with turbulent sea waters below, densely packed with sharp rocks. Jumping from here would never land them in the water.
The most likely outcome would be falling onto those jagged rocks. "Joy, I’ll go out to draw them away soon, you hide behind that rock over there and head to the signal tower for help."
"Silly girl! If anyone’s going, it’s me, the elder sister. I can’t let you go; it’s too dangerous."
After saying this, Joy Lyle was about to walk towards the searchers when Elliana grabbed her, "No, Joy! Nothing good will come from going out there."
Joy looked at her seriously, holding the hand that was gripping her clothes, and said, "Elliana, only I can do this. I have the responsibility to ensure your safety."
"No... don’t." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Elliana, have you forgotten? I’m a police academy graduate."
"Even if you are a police academy graduate, you’re not a cop, Joy. They want me, I’ll go out and distract them." She ignored whatever Joy said at this point.
If Joy went out, who knew what might happen? She couldn’t even begin to imagine it!
As the sounds from the forest grew closer, her heart raced with urgency, unwilling to release Joy’s hand. They circled the edge of the cliff twice, finding no way out.
Looking at the sharply pointed rocks below, there was a part where there was more water, within a ring of rocks. Elliana looked and said, "Joy, if we jump into that ring, we might have a chance."
Following Elliana’s gaze, indeed, within the circle of rocks, there was a relatively open sea area, but it was at least five meters from the cliff where they stood. Even if they jumped from a height and could jump far, accurately landing in that circle was still uncertain.
While they were contemplating, the sounds from the forest were almost right beside them; they would soon be discovered.
Clenching her teeth, Joy held Elliana’s hand tighter and said, "Elliana! Don’t be afraid, hold my hand. We’ll jump together on the count of three."
"Okay. Yes."
Although Elliana knew this was the only way, looking at the distant and high cliff, her heart was pounding. Her palms began to sweat.
She glanced at the somewhat composed Joy, who turned to look at her, nodding affirmatively. She softly uttered, "One!"
"Two!"
"Three! Jump!"
Elliana wasn’t ready when she heard Joy call out three; feeling a bit unsteady on her feet, before she could adjust, Joy pulled her off the cliff.
The sensation of falling weightlessly compelled her to scream, but she held her fear back and closed her eyes. In the darkness, she only felt herself rapidly plummeting down.
It felt as if her very soul was being pulled out, and she clung desperately to the only thing in her hand—Joy’s hand.
"Head! There’s nothing here!"
"Nothing here either!"
...
A group of people clad in black stood not far from the cliff’s edge. One seemed to be the leader, listening to the reports from a few teams, baffled.
According to the clues they found, those two women should have fled this way.
In the morning, the patrol discovered smoke rising from an abandoned power station by the roadside, so they came to investigate immediately. Knowing this was a cliff, he had arranged everyone into fifteen teams.
They had combed the area starting from the south, closing in from all sides.
They also found traces in the forest left by the two women.
Yet now, with the encirclement closing in, they couldn’t find them, which was rather puzzling.
"Boss, could it be that they left earlier than we noticed, heading south?"
The leader glanced at the speaker and dug his ear. "Impossible, when we got here, the fire at the power station had just gone out, and there were half-roasted doves beside it. They couldn’t have been quicker than me."
