The CEO's Wife Is Super Charming-Chapter 362 - 359: The Secret of the Chopsticks
"Miss Elliana, you are truly beautiful."
Elliana Lyle was wearing a white mid-length evening dress adorned with numerous small pearls, her slightly brown long hair was styled up and secured with a rose clip, and her diamond-studded high heels made her legs appear slender and pale.
The skirt’s layers swayed elegantly, resembling a blooming white lotus under the lights.
In response to the maids’ compliments, she merely stared at the door, shattered beyond recognition, while some servants were sweeping up the wood chip debris on the floor.
The old man Brooke had the door smashed just to make her come out for dinner.
Looking at the doorframe, she suddenly found it amusing; locking the door had been utterly useless—when someone wants to break it down, they just break it down.
"Miss Elliana, it’s done."
After fastening the diamond earrings on her, the maid looked at her joyfully, as if admiring a beautiful piece of ornament.
She sighed softly and then turned to walk out.
Upon reaching the dining room, she found the old man Brooke in a tuxedo already waiting for her. The dining room lighting was slightly dim, and the long dining table was set with lit scented candles, with fresh rose petals scattered all over the floor.
The fragrance was everywhere.
"Miss Elliana." The old man Brooke extended his hand to her.
With an expressionless face, she took a moment to come up with the words and said, "We have an old saying, ’Men and women should not touch hands when giving or receiving things.’"
"Oh~." The old man Brooke seemed to recognize the saying, immediately withdrawing his hand, saying, "I understand."
"Also, could you turn on the lights? I prefer brightness."
She said.
This dim environment, indeed, made one uneasy.
She dared to be so bold because the maid mentioned that the old man Brooke was a very trustworthy person who never broke an agreement.
Though uncertain, she wanted to test it, at worst, to see it to the end.
Brooke immediately said, "Of course, angels prefer the holy light, I know, and I apologize for my oversight."
"..."
At the mention of angels, she recalled what the old man Brooke had said earlier, suddenly feeling utterly nauseated.
The lights came on, and she sat at the other end of the long table, with the old man Brooke enthusiastically discussing today’s mysterious dish and later presenting a diamond necklace via the housekeeper.
The central diamond was even larger than a pigeon egg, indeed a precious and costly treasure.
This gift-giving made her even more uneasy; such unearned flattery is often suspect.
"Miss Elliana doesn’t like it?" Steve Brooke wasn’t angry; instead, he kindly said, "Miss Elliana is truly an angel, not tempted by worldly material things, but I think you will like what’s next."
Just as she wondered what it could be, a familiar smell wafted up.
The covered dishes were brought over and placed at both ends of the table.
The moment the covers were lifted, a sour and foul smell greeted them, yet it actually smelled quite good. Upon closer inspection, it was luosifen (snail noodles).
However, everyone present’s expressions changed; even Steve Brooke held his breath, unable to stop himself from using a handkerchief to cover his mouth and nose.
"Miss Elliana, here’s your chopsticks." The housekeeper handed over a pair of... diamond-encrusted chopsticks.
To be honest, it was really odd.
Yet, just as she took the chopsticks in hand, she realized there was a folded note slipped into her palm.
She couldn’t help but glance at the housekeeper, and then she heard a dry heave, drawing her attention.
The old man Brooke covered his mouth, waved his hand at her, and directly ran out of the dining room, leaving behind only four guards with somewhat unsettled expressions and two maids not far off trying to hold their breath.
