Chapter 318: Chapter 315: A Phone Call

"Hannah, how do you have the time to call me?" This teasing remark seemed like a complaint, but it was full of delight.

Elliana Lyle leaned against the window, taking the call, while Norman Bennett was in a meeting.

"Little Sprout~ Miss your big sister?" A dashing, carefree voice came from the other end, with a playful and teasing tone.

Hearing this familiar voice, an inexplicable smile spread across her face; she kind of missed having Hannah around.

But she still let out a cold huff and said, "Who’s missing you? If you didn’t call, I’d have forgotten you even existed."

"Is that so? Is Little Sprout that heartless?"

After teasing her for a while, Hannah’s tone turned serious: "Little Sprout, in a few days, I might have to go on a mission. I might not come back, so I thought of giving you a call."

As those words fell, the smile on Elliana’s face instantly dimmed.

’Go on a mission, not come back’ — these words sent a chill through her heart.

She knew Hannah would go on missions and was truly a reliable person. Hearing this, she knew it must be a dangerous mission.

For Hannah to make a farewell call, it must be really dangerous.

"Hannah! You..." Her voice turned flustered, not knowing what to say for a moment.

A hearty laugh came from Hannah’s side: "Why do I feel like Little Sprout, you’re about to cry? I just meant I might go; it’s not decided yet."

"You can’t let anything happen to you."

This voice was soft and tender, and you could even hear a hint of tears.

This threw Hannah into a panic, quickly comforting her: "Hey... sweetheart, don’t cry. I was just teasing you; there’s nothing going on, just wanted to scare you a little! Don’t cry, otherwise, Norman might come after me!"

"Really? If you’re lying, you’re a puppy." Elliana didn’t know whether to cry, get angry, or laugh.

It’s best if nothing’s going on. But she didn’t want to be teased so easily.

Hannah didn’t respond to her but continued to patiently coax her: "Little Sprout, don’t cry. It’s just a little thing, no big deal. I just missed you and wanted to scare you a bit. When I get back on leave, I’ll take you out to play, okay?"

She was silent for a while, then said, "Promise you mean it."

"Yes, I promise. Alright, I won’t keep talking. I’m hanging up now!"

With a beep, Hannah’s hasty voice ended the call.

After putting down her phone, she was still lost in thought. She knew it mustn’t be a small matter, or Hannah wouldn’t have called. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Suddenly, she thought of Zane Collins. If Hannah called her, then surely she called her family first?

So she wanted to ask Zane, just to verify if Hannah was really teasing her.

After all, it’s not impossible; Hannah had teased her plenty of times before.

Or perhaps she just didn’t want to believe it.

After searching for a long time on her phone, she couldn’t find Zane’s number, then checked on WeChat and found a stranger with no notes.

It should be Zane, so she tried a transfer and saw a "Zane" character, quickly noting it down.

Cat Cat: "Did your sister call you?"

Zane Collins: "No, who is this?"

Typing...

Zane Collins: "Oh, it’s you, sister-in-law. Anything you need?"

He must have seen her profile, she thought.

Cat Cat: "Did your sister call your parents?"

Zane Collins: "Hold on, sister-in-law, I’ll help you ask."

Without even asking why he agreed to help, she felt... a bit odd.

She initially felt it was inappropriate to ask and was considering taking it back.

Half an hour later, Zane replied.

Zane Collins: "Sorry to keep you waiting, sister-in-law. I asked; she didn’t."

Seeing this response, she had some doubts, but her thoughts leaned more towards the idea that Hannah was just teasing her.

After all, she had known Hannah for less than a year. How could it be that she would call her first?
