Chapter 308: Chapter 305: Blame

Harmony Hospital.

When Elliana Lyle arrived, Claire Hue was already waiting for her outside. Seeing her approach, Claire quickly walked towards her.

Maybe it was because Elliana was wearing a padded white sweatshirt, straight-legged jeans, and white sneakers, Claire couldn’t help but take a second glance at her.

The weather didn’t warrant such thick clothing; it would be warm, but her niece seemed unfazed by it, rather accustomed instead.

Elliana’s complexion was excessively pale, like porcelain without a trace of blood, accentuated by her lipstick. Though beautiful, it appeared somewhat unhealthy.

"Elliana, are you feeling unwell?"

Not wanting to worry others about Claire’s concern, Elliana replied, "It’s that time of the month, a bit uncomfortable, nothing major."

Claire nodded slightly in understanding, gently supporting her back and leading her inside, saying, "Let’s go see your grandmother first. We’ll eat once your uncle arrives."

Upon reaching the ward, the caregiver and her aunt, whose eyes were still swollen, looked her way.

Her aunt’s eyes carried a complex emotion and didn’t greet her, instead wiped her eyes and stepped aside.

Ultimately, her aunt still harbored resentment, as Claire had already mentioned on the way; her second aunt said Elliana caused Xiaxia’s disappearance.

Although her aunt hadn’t fully believed it at the time, a night’s reflection caused some estrangement.

People’s thoughts are uncontrollable; even Elliana felt this matter was her fault, let alone her aunt.

"Aunt," she softly called, maintaining a calm demeanor.

Her aunt glanced at her, tears filling her eyes, then turned away, resentfully blaming, "Why are you even here? Haven’t you caused enough trouble?"

"Fourth Sister-in-law!" Claire, filled with tension, scolded and then quickly turned to Elliana, "These matters have nothing to do with you. Don’t overthink it; your aunt is just too heartbroken and lost her senses."

"It’s... fine." She shook her head, her lips trembling as she forced a composed appearance.

Despite reddened eyes and a nose full of sorrow, no tears fell.

It felt as if she wasn’t entitled to feel aggrieved or sad.

Many others felt more pain than she did.

"Second Sister was right; you’re an ingrate. Still so indifferent when my good daughter learned all the wrong things from you!" Her aunt couldn’t help but cry.

With a look from Claire, the caregiver quickly left and took her aunt out as well.

Claire said to Elliana, "Talk to your grandmother. It might help."

"Okay."

The ward door was gently closed. Elliana suppressed her tears with great effort.

Cautiously, she reached out to hold her grandmother’s hand, now full of wrinkles. Her grandmother’s hand was warm, while hers was cold.

Quickly, she withdrew her hand, tucked her grandmother, who was still under an oxygen mask and receiving fluids, back under the blanket.

Her grandmother was an old woman now, no longer the youthful figure she knew from childhood.

She had grown even more kind.

Even with her eyes tightly closed, her grandmother still exuded compassion.

"Gran..." Her voice trembled uncontrollably. After regaining composure, she continued, "Grandma, it’s Elliana; I’ve come to see you. Please wake up and look at me, okay?"

The last three words were spoken with a pleading tone.

Her mother had died, and now her grandmother was in critical condition.

All Elliana could do was sit there, unable to do anything. She couldn’t wake her grandmother up, couldn’t find Xiaxia...

Could do nothing at all.
