Vera felt a bit sheepish at the praise, offering an embarrassed, awkward smile.

Rona Langdon was also home. She was still upset about Vera running away, so hearing Master Nathan praise Vera now only soured her mood further. However, Master Nathan’s status was so esteemed that she wouldn’t dare speak out of turn in front of him, not even if she had ten times the nerve.

She simply said, "Vera isn’t all that great. It was just a coincidence."

Master Nathan asked Vera, "Vera, I heard you had exams recently. How did you do?"

Before Vera could answer, Rona Langdon cut in with a sneer, "Vera has always been quite dim. She’s not the scholarly type. I doubt she did very well this time either."

Noticing the test papers in her hand, Master Nathan asked, "Could I take a look at your exams?"

When he saw her look over, he gave a slight nod. Only then did she hand the papers to Master Nathan, saying, "I didn’t do exceptionally well, but I guess it was passable."

Master Nathan opened her test papers and the first thing he saw was her English exam. The perfect score of 100 was especially eye-catching.

He couldn’t help but be taken aback for a moment. He had actually been a little worried when Nathaniel Nathan asked him to inquire about Vera’s grades. What if she had bombed the exams? Nathaniel’s response had been, "She won’t bomb them. And even if she does, just find another angle to praise her from."

But now, Vera’s scores had far exceeded his expectations.

He flipped through the rest of the papers and found that, aside from Political Science, she had scored over ninety on every other subject. He said with some surprise, "My dear child, you’re far too modest. How could you call such excellent scores merely ’passable’?"

Vera just smiled. Zachary Preston, who was standing beside Master Nathan, was both shocked and delighted to see her scores. He had previously agreed to let her focus on her studies, but that had simply been a father’s indulgence for his daughter. Now, seeing her achieve such results, he felt a surge of pride that was unique to a father.

Rona Langdon refused to believe Vera could get good grades. She remarked, "Scores like Vera’s are nothing to praise. If we’re talking about grades, Cara is much better than Vera!"

Master Nathan ignored her and handed the test papers to Zachary Preston. "You’re truly blessed to have such a wonderful daughter. This time, Vera saved my life. I have a proposal, and you can see if it’s suitable. If you don’t think it is, then just pretend I never said anything, and our Nathan Family will still remember our debt to Vera for saving me."

Zachary Preston quickly replied, "Please, Master Nathan, speak your mind. Any proposal from you is sure to be well-considered."

Master Nathan’s gaze fell upon Nathaniel Nathan as he said, "This grandson of mine may be a bit cold, but he’s quite outstanding, and deep down, he knows how to care for people. So, I have a proposal. Let’s have Vera and Nathaniel spend some time getting to know each other. If they hit it off, that would be for the best. In the future, I’ll let Nathaniel repay my debt to Vera for saving my life."

He hadn’t been entirely direct, but the meaning behind his words was perfectly clear: he wanted to arrange a marriage between Nathaniel Nathan and Vera Xavier.
