The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 19: The Start of Doting on His Wife
"Buying books takes too long." Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her and said, "I’m not going with you."
Vera Xavier was speechless, but then Nathaniel Nathan added, "However, I’ve gathered up my old high school books. They’re in the car. You can take them home with you later."
Vera Xavier quickly turned to look at the back seat. Sure enough, there was a large stack of books. She gave them a quick scan and saw that in addition to textbooks for every subject, there were all sorts of study guides. The collection was incredibly complete!
She said to him earnestly, "Nathaniel Nathan, thank you!"
"They’re just some useless old books, nothing to thank me for." Nathaniel Nathan said as he drove, "I know about your previous grades. They were atrocious. Since you’ve decided to study, you need to take it seriously. You should just come over to my place whenever you’re free."
Vera Xavier froze for a moment, unable to figure out what her bad grades had to do with going to his house. For once, he explained patiently, "I may have graduated a few years ago, but I was the top scorer on the college entrance exam in Crestfall. I’m more than qualified to tutor you."
Vera Xavier’s eyes lit up. She remembered now. He wasn’t just the top scorer in Crestfall; he was the top scorer for the entire province of Atheria. Though he was only three years older than her, he was an absolute legend.
At fourteen, he had entered the nation’s top university as Atheria’s top scorer. He graduated two years later after completing all his credits, then spent another year earning his master’s degree. After that, he went abroad for his doctorate and returned last year with a double Ph.D. from a world-class university.
On top of all that, he came from an incredibly powerful family; the Nathan Family held a very high position in the military.
This outstanding man was an object of everyone’s admiration, a superstar benchmark that was admired from afar but utterly unattainable.
’So he’s going to give me private lessons?’
A warmth spread through her heart, and she said earnestly, "Thank you!"
Nathaniel Nathan glanced at her. Feeling his gaze, she offered him a faint smile in return. She was already delicate and lovely, but with that one smile, he felt as if all the blooming roses by the roadside had lost their color.
He turned his head away and focused on driving. Vera Xavier’s lips curved into a smile as she noticed the tips of his ears turning red.
’I always used to think he was as cold on the inside as he was on the outside, a man with no emotions. Only today did I realize he gets embarrassed so easily.’
Nathaniel Nathan drove straight to the city’s main department store. In those days, Crestfall wasn’t like it would be twenty years later, with bustling commercial centers on every corner. The department store was the most high-end shopping paradise in the entire city.
Vera Xavier assumed he needed to buy something, so she didn’t ask and simply got out of the car to follow him.
As the two of them were walking inside, Nathaniel Nathan suddenly stopped and looked at her. She was a little baffled. His tone wasn’t exactly friendly when he asked, "That thing you said about wanting to date me... you weren’t just stringing me along, were you?"
Vera Xavier paused for a second. When she saw him subtly gesture with his hand, she immediately understood what he meant and held hers out. "Of course not."
Nathaniel Nathan was slightly surprised by her compliance. Thinking about it, even though they were married, they hadn’t spent much time together and didn’t know each other well.
He had previously suspected that her marrying him was just a temporary measure to appease him, so her current attitude was a little unexpected.
He grabbed her hand and led her inside. She had lived in the countryside before, and after returning to the city, Rona Langdon had forced her to handle all the housework. As a result, her hands weren’t delicate; they were a little rough.
His heart ached for her. He decided that once they were living together, he would treat her well and never let her do any housework. If she felt like it, she could arrange flowers or make desserts with the servants, but that was all.
