Nathaniel Nathan felt a sense of satisfaction at her words, but he feigned impatience. "I get it. After I leave, I won’t even glance at another female."

After finally coaxing Master Nathan to leave, she felt mentally and physically exhausted. ’Great. After all that commotion, there’s no way I can calm down and read.’ She simply took off her clothes, got into bed, and prepared to sleep.

Then, to her utter dismay, she realized she was actually worried about him!

She was worried he might encounter danger on his mission. Worried his post would be too remote. Worried about whether he’d have enough to eat and a warm place to sleep.

Vera Xavier sat up and pressed her temples. ’I must be a real masochist,’ she thought. ’After everything he put me through, he’s barely gone, and I’m already starting to miss him.’

’I’m a hopeless case!’

The next few days were relatively peaceful. The only difference was that Cara Preston no longer put on a fake, friendly act whenever she saw Vera. Instead, every time they crossed paths, Cara would glare daggers at her.

Vera Xavier had no complaints. After all, the sight of Cara Preston always nauseated her. Now that Cara was no longer getting in her face, she was happy to have the peace and quiet.

Her deskmate officially became Shane Caldwell. She hadn’t known much about Shane in her past life, but in this one, she had already pegged him as arrogant.

She wasn’t sure if what she’d said last time had provoked Shane Caldwell, but after they became deskmates, he stopped making those sour, jealous remarks. Instead, he began frantically working through practice problems.

At the time, Shane Caldwell seemed to get angry and shot her a fierce glare, but she didn’t pay it any mind.

When she got home from school that afternoon, she was surprised to find Master Nathan there. She greeted him politely, "Hello, Mr. Nathan!"

The moment Master Nathan saw her, he broke into a grin that stretched from ear to ear. "Just call me Grandpa. Adding my last name makes it sound so distant!"

He even winked at her after he finished speaking. ’Great,’ she thought. He had managed to take a simple sentence and give it a completely different flavor.

Zachary Preston, who was standing nearby, smiled as well. He could tell Master Nathan genuinely liked Vera and wanted her as his granddaughter-in-law. He said, "Mr. Nathan has something he wants to say to you."

Vera Xavier looked toward Master Nathan, who said with a smile, "I’ve always been direct, so I won’t beat around the bush. I’m here to ask you to come stay at my house for a while. You might not know this, but Nathaniel left for a mission last night, so he isn’t home. You’ve met our housekeeper, and she’s not exactly someone who can take charge. Plus, I have a heart condition. So, just in case, I’d like to ask you to come over and keep an old man like me company. Would you be willing?"

Vera Xavier froze. ’I know that with the Nathan Family’s wealth and connections, they could easily hire a professional caregiver from a hospital or a nursing home,’ she thought. ’For Master Nathan to come here and ask me to be his so-called companion... this has to be Nathaniel Nathan’s idea. Before Vera Xavier could speak, Cara Preston, who had come home right behind her, piped up with an objection. "I’m afraid that isn’t very appropriate, is it?
