The CEO's Substitute Ex-Wife-Chapter 477: Despair and Rescue
Wushuang’s emotions surged. She embraced Kaka tightly, fiercely reciprocating his kiss. It was as if this was the one and only time in this life, truly just this once. Within this response lay a despair unknown to him, the past hesitation, and a final decision. This feeling trapped her like a caged animal, and he was her only light.
For some reason, tears welled up and spilled over, tracing down their lips.
Kaka opened his eyes slightly. His eyes, long accustomed to the darkness, saw two trails of clear tears on her face.
"Wushuang..." He released her gently, his chest aching. Wushuang smiled, as radiant as before. Those tears seemed meaningless to her. Kaka silently embraced her, his warm lips resting by her earlobe, then her neck.
The darkness carved out a space of tranquility. It was clearly a dangerous scene amidst a hail of bullets, yet it was filled with a bloody intimacy.
No one questioned why they were willing to risk their lives for each other; it felt like a matter of course. No one cared about such a foolish question. Wushuang clung to his tenderness and intimacy in this moment.
How much must a woman love a man to reach this point? She didn’t even know herself.
She only knew that falling hopelessly in love with someone was not necessarily degrading. Even if he didn’t respond, even if he didn’t love her, being able to sacrifice for each other and care for each other like this was enough.
In matters of love, she wasn’t actually someone who compromised so easily.
Her pride would not allow her to harbor such a humble thought, which was why she had contemplated starting anew and burying him in her heart years ago. But pride was relative. Kaka would never know of her struggle.
Nor would she let him know.
"Kaka, if only I had been born three years earlier," Wushuang said with a smile. Kaka smiled in surprise. "Wouldn’t that make you older than me?"
Yes, older than him.
Hǎilán was also older than him. If she could, she would willingly cut her life short by thirty years to be born three years earlier. How wonderful if her birth and Hǎilán’s could have been swapped. If that were the case, Kaka’s fiancée would be her.
She would be the one destined for him.
Many things in life were unfair. It was rare for people to get a fair chance. Why couldn’t he have been born three years earlier than Hǎilán? Why did he have to be determined from childhood that only Hǎilán would be his wife?
Wushuang stopped thinking about these things. Thinking too much was useless and only brought her pain.
The Azure Dragon asked the Vermilion Bird, "Can you contact Nánfēng?"
"The receiver is broken," the Vermilion Bird said anxiously. "I don’t know how Nánfēng is doing. I’m going crazy! Azure Dragon, stop playing around. It’s been so long; they should be up by now. Take a look with the binoculars."
The Azure Dragon nodded. Four fighter jets were flying in the air, three of which were enemy planes. The Vermilion Bird’s flying skills were the best among them, so the Azure Dragon wasn’t worried about being hit. He began his reconnaissance with the binoculars. Ghost Face also wanted to help, asking, "Is there anything I can do?"
"You rest," the Vermilion Bird said, glancing at his arm. Ghost Face had no choice. Another missile flew toward them. The Vermilion Bird maneuvered the plane to evade it. Their fighter jet was much faster than the Duke’s. The missile missed. The Azure Dragon saw Wushuang and Kaka.
But...
*Damn it!*
The Azure Dragon was the calmest of the four—Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and Vermilion Bird. Yet, even he couldn’t help but curse under his breath. They were fighting a life-and-death battle in the air, while those two were down there embracing and kissing?
They looked badly injured. *Damn, are they that impatient?* It seemed their limbs were damaged. If they weren’t injured, would they have done it right there on the spot? The Azure Dragon inwardly cursed his boss.
The Vermilion Bird asked, "Did you see them?"
The Azure Dragon gritted his teeth. "I saw them!"
He gave the coordinates, telling the Vermilion Bird to fly the plane over. They had to rescue them in one go, or the enemy fighter jets would spot them and blow them to smithereens.
"Understood!"
The Vermilion Bird understood completely. Their teamwork had always been excellent. The Azure Dragon tossed the binoculars aside. He began to take the initiative. *These second-generation fighter jets dare to fight with us? They are courting death.*
The missile changed course, and the engine started. The Azure Dragon whistled. The Vermilion Bird looked at the display and flew the aircraft along the course the Azure Dragon had set. The fighter jet’s wings retracted, revealing a meter-long missile. The Azure Dragon smiled dominantly. "Go, baby, give them a show."
The missile detached from the plane and flew toward one of the fighter jets. At the same time, the Vermilion Bird positioned the plane directly above Wushuang and Kaka, and two iron cables were lowered. Wushuang stood up, supporting Kaka with one hand.
The missile hit one of the fighter jets. The jet instantly emitted a huge explosion. With a loud roar, debris scattered, and a red glow illuminated the entire sky above Devil’s Castle. This exploding jet shielded another one. The missile, following a straight trajectory, exploded the second jet after the first, and the debris fell to the ground, starting a fire.
The Duke let out a roar. The London police protected the Duke as he retreated, constantly firing into the air. The scene was chaotic. Unfortunately, the distance was too far. Wushuang held onto the iron cable with one hand while supporting Kaka. She also grabbed the cable herself.
Wushuang suddenly felt something behind her. She looked back and saw an assassin rising from the rubble, his pistol raised and aimed at Kaka. Her eyes narrowed. Kaka was more severely injured than she was, and his instincts weren’t as sharp. Moreover, as an assassin, her reaction to killing intent was naturally better than Kaka’s.
Wushuang grabbed the iron cable with one hand and sharply swung backward. Her broken arm stubbornly clung to Kaka. The two of them swung forward, with her entire body shielding Kaka’s back. As the gunshot rang out, their bodies suddenly left the rubble, swinging through the air.
The Vermilion Bird flew the plane away from Devil’s Castle. Kaka heard the gunshot and felt Wushuang’s body tense. He was horrified and looked back. Wushuang was hugging him from behind, smiling as she kissed his earlobe. "Silly, I’m fine."
Her tone was steady, without a trace of tremor.
"Are you really fine?"
"Of course. Oh, this is the first time I’ve teased you like this." Wushuang smiled seductively, her warm kiss landing behind his ear. "Kaka, there’s one thing... there’s one thing, all these years..."
She paused, then started to laugh again. "Right, you need to hold on tight. The wind is too strong. I’m a little cold."
Kaka held onto the rope with one hand. Wushuang moved away from Kaka’s back. Kaka held her waist tightly with one hand. The rope couldn’t ascend immediately because there was still one more fighter jet in the air. The Duke was also ruthless, having issued a final order to shoot them down and not let them escape.
