At the orphanage.
Li An’an lowered her cap and handed the fruits and snacks to the child. Today was the opening day of the orphanage, and many kind-hearted people would come to visit the children. The entire orphanage was very lively.
In front of the two-storied orphanage, the kind-looking Director Wang stood amidst a group of luxuriously dressed upper-class crowd, her expression full of gratitude.
She was elderly and her health was worsening. These orphans were the last thing she could let go of. Fortunately, these kind-hearted people often came to sponsor her.
“Mr. Li, Mrs. Li, you’re really kind-hearted. There aren’t many people as kind-hearted as you now. The heavens will bless you.” Director Wang had nothing to repay them for their good deeds. She could only express her gratitude with words.
Liu Luhua smiled. “You’re too polite. This is what we ought to do. Our Old Liu runs a big business. He has the capital and is the kindest. Besides, An’an… Sigh, let’s not talk about it. The child is unfortunate!” There were tears in Liu Luhua’s eyes. She wiped them away with a handkerchief, looking very sad.
Li Chong was on the phone trying to settle work matters. When he heard his wife mention their adopted daughter Li An’an, his heart didn’t waver at all. Only they understood how Li An’an got into trouble and they came here for a reason.
Director Wang wiped her tears. An’an was a child she had raised single-handedly. She remembered that when the girl first came to the orphanage, she had suffered a head injury. She was thin and weak, and had to stay in the hospital for a week before she was snatched from the clutches of Death.
When An’an was eight years old, she was lucky enough to be adopted by the Li couple. She thought that this child could finally have a shot at a good life in the future, but who could have known that this would happen!
“It’s An’an’s bad luck. If she’s in the netherworld, she’d be sad to find out that you still miss her. My condolences!”
Liu Luhua wiped her tears and said, “Director, it’s like this. I remember An’an said that you have a jade pendant. Is that true?” 𝗯𝐞𝐝𝗻𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐥.𝐜𝗼𝐦
Director Wang thought for a moment. “I remember that she had a jade pendant on her when she first arrived at the orphanage. Later, the teacher here took it away. Did she not take it with her when she left?”
Li Luhua was excited. She had turned the house upside down looking for it. And It turned out that Li An’an had left it with the director.
“Is this piece of jade still around?”
“I’ll get the teacher to look for this. There are too many children here. We’ll have to tidy up the storage room before we know if it’s still there.”
“We’ll have to trouble you then. You must find it. After all, it belongs to An’an. I want to keep it as a memory.”
Director Wang was sad as well. “Okay, I’ll try my best to find it!”
In the luxury car outside.
On their way home, Li Luhua and Li Chong were excited. There was finally news of the jade pendant. It would mean a bright future for their family! Because of Li An’an’s death, they almost lost the chance to get it.
Li An’an watched Director Wang send the couple off, then went to take care of the children.
She badly wanted to step out and tell Director Wang that she was fine, but now was not the time! When she finally had money and the capability, she’d be back.
However, why did Liu Luhua come to the orphanage? Did they wish to adopt a child? Thinking of what had happened to herself, she would never allow it.
She took out a note from her bag and wrote a few words. She folded it and handed it to one of the children to pass to Director Wang.
Director Wang was surprised when he saw the note from the child.
There were only a few words scribbled on it: Don’t believe Liu Luhua and Liu Chong, they are not decent people.
Director Wang was shocked.. Whv did the writing resemble An’an’s? Could it be that An’an was still alive?! But if she were alive, why didn’t she come to see her?
