The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 74: He’s a Little Panicked, a Little Anxious
Yelena Hughes gazed into the distance, estimating the distance. She didn’t know how good others were, but with money at stake, she was determined to go all out.
Madeline Forest was just pushed by her and hit the railing beside, her hand still aching.
"Yelena."
Yelena Hughes glanced at her and saw that others were ready to get in the water.
"Do you have a swimsuit?" She didn’t want to dive in wearing a sweater and pants.
She wanted to win, and wearing too many clothes would make swimming exhausting.
"Yes." Shawn Thorne pointed downstairs, "You can choose one yourself."
Yelena Hughes quickly ascended, while Jasper Yale moved to another deck to smoke, and Madeline Forest hesitated, wanting to follow.
But after taking two steps, someone pulled her arm.
Shawn Thorne, towering over her, spoke menacingly, "What do you want to say to him?"
"N-nothing."
"Then just stand here obediently."
Madeline Forest shrunk her shoulders, scared, but still said, "Master Thorne, if someone dies in your game, what then?"
"Why are you so timid? Besides, you’re not the one going in the water."
Madeline Forest turned her head, "If something happens to Yelena, I... I’ll call the police."
"Say that again?"
"I’ll call the police on you all!"
Shawn Thorne glared at her, and Madeline Forest forcibly shook off his grip, hurriedly approaching as Yelena Hughes came over.
"How’s your swimming? Are you sure you can do it?"
Yelena Hughes wanted to reassure her with a few words but feared it would only increase Madeline’s worry. "Don’t worry, trust me."
She valued her life, only tweaking a risk and would quit if it proved too much.
Nothing was worth more than her life.
Yelena Hughes picked the most conservative swimsuit, a one-piece skirt that covered her thighs. Under the moonlight, her legs appeared even paler.
Shawn Thorne led the crowd to the first floor, where a section of the railing had already been opened.
Jasper Yale remained where he was. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Lowering his gaze, he saw Yelena Hughes standing among the people, taking off her coat and handing it to Madeline Forest.
Her posture was upright, her figure admirable, naturally drawing predatory eyes.
But Yelena Hughes ignored them, shivering in the cold as goosebumps rose all over. Shawn Thorne shouted, "Get ready," then a wine glass hurled towards the wall nearby.
With the word "start," the glass shattered.
Yelena Hughes dove into the water, her movements graceful, but the shock of the cold nearly paralyzed her.
Her entire face submerged, so cold, so icy.
It felt like knives slicing her skin. Yelena Hughes paddled forward through the water, the bright lights illuminating her path.
The calm water split by a group diving in, echoes of splashes trailing behind.
Yelena Hughes heard someone unable to bear it, shouting loudly, "No, it’s too cold, I’m done, I want out!"
From the deck, a man cursed, "What use are you, coward, bringing me shame!"
Her breath started falling behind, and her mouth gulped the ice-cold lake water, leaving her trembling and her face numb.
Someone closed in fast from behind, and Yelena Hughes dared not give up.
Jasper Yale stood there, watching her silhouette drift farther away.
This woman was really pushing it for money. He didn’t like seeing her like this, yet always felt she shouldn’t be this way.
Yelena Hughes reached the end, nearly exhausted beyond limits, clinging to a wooden post and catching her breath.
She took the crystal ball tied there, clenched in her hand, this tiny thing worth five hundred thousand.
Two women swam over, trying to snatch it, but Yelena Hughes lifted her arm.
"I’ve already got it."
"Aren’t you saying that a bit early?" One stared at her hand with malice in her eyes.
"Indeed, you haven’t swum back yet; it’s not yours for sure."
Yelena Hughes’s arm was grabbed by a woman, instantly feeling heavier, nearly pushed underwater.
Everyone on the yacht saw clearly, Shawn Thorne’s face changed suddenly. "Who the hell doesn’t know the rules?"
"Master Thorne, it’s just for fun, why so serious?"
Shawn Thorne’s expression tightened, "Why am I anxious?"
Jasper Yale saw everything, Yelena Hughes entangled with the two, unable to break free, growing tired, yet refusing to relinquish the ball.
Jasper Yale frustratingly bit a cigarette from the pack, the lighter’s flame giving his eyes a fierce shadow.
He felt an unexplainable panic, urgency.
Drop that damned ball, will you?
Will it kill you?
Yelena Hughes coughed up several gulps of water, growing weaker.
The woman pinched her hand, attempting to pry her fingers open, but she gripped tightly.
This wouldn’t work.
Another woman pinned her shoulder, and Yelena Hughes sank slowly with the force.
But they still wouldn’t let her go. Under the water, Yelena Hughes fiercely kneed the woman’s stomach, causing her to let go, her pained cry too soft to reach far.
The other got kicked in the chest, almost rupturing her recent enhancement!
Both let go, the lake surface calming again.
But... Yelena Hughes disappeared.
She’d been dragged to deeper depths, barely glimpsing the distant light.
This was a rich man’s feast, with revelers and those plunged into despair.
Jasper Yale held his breath, not blinking, yet Yelena Hughes vanished right under his nose.
Shawn Thorne wiped his face, taking a few steps. Could it be she was really in trouble?
Madeline Forest stared dazedly, suddenly jolted, wanting to rush over, "Yelena, don’t scare me, come out, don’t—"
Had she cramped up?
Or exhausted by those two women?
Madeline Forest dashed over, angrily punching Shawn Thorne’s arm, "Save her, there’s a life in danger! Give her back to me!"
She almost roared, stamping her foot in place, tears streaming down.
Jasper Yale hadn’t taken a single puff; with the wind, half his cigarette was gone.
Smoke ash fell onto the man’s hand, yet he felt no pain.
"Yelena—" Madeline Forest’s shout carried a hint of desperation.
Jasper Yale’s heart trembled, stillness on the water, flicking a finger, the remaining half cigarette dropped.
Jasper Yale called out, "Hailey!"
He couldn’t suppress the panic rising in his chest. Why was everyone standing around like they were dead?
As he was about to utter the words to save her, there was a loud splash as someone emerged from the water.
Yelena Hughes raised her right hand high, holding her breath until now, her chest splitting with pain.
She gasped for air, her skin snow-white, her eyes wide.
Yelena Hughes smiled, unabashedly smug, an innate exuberance.
She threw the crystal ball with force, landing it at Shawn Thorne’s feet.
Yelena Hughes lay on her back, looking up at them, her voice filled with laughter.
"Master Thorne, your five hundred thousand, hand it over."
