The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 34: Your Dignity, You Dropped It
The makeup on her face hadn’t been removed, and she changed into a pair of flat boots. She was dressed very lightly, as if the wind could blow her away.
The man swallowed and handed Miss Hughes a few bills.
Then, right in front of Jasper Yale, he gave her a hug, "I’ll come again tomorrow, and I’ll want you to keep me company. Among all the girls at The Sovereign Club, you’re the best fun!"
After saying this, the man left, and Miss Hughes didn’t hold onto the money tightly, causing two bills to fall to the ground.
It turned out he was one of her clients.
The people behind Jasper Yale left one by one, and Miss Hughes was about to leave too. It was too late, and she was very tired. She wouldn’t be able to sleep for a few hours after getting home, and she had to rush for the morning news the next day.
Jasper Yale looked at her as if she had lost her soul. "Your money, it fell."
Miss Hughes stopped walking but didn’t immediately turn around. Jasper’s cold words seemed even more ruthless in the chilly wind. "Did you earn so much in tips today that this hundred or two is no longer money?"
Miss Hughes walked back to where the money had fallen, bent down, and picked one bill up, holding it tightly in her palm. As she was about to pick up the other bill, a sudden night breeze blew it away, out of her reach.
Money is very light, lighter than dignity.
It was about to drift to Jasper Yale’s feet when Miss Hughes chased after it and picked it up.
Jasper’s car pulled up at the door, and without giving Miss Hughes a glance, he got into the car.
The rich man’s game had ended, and by that time, there were no buses or subways available, so Miss Hughes had to take a taxi.
The drivers parked around here all knew what the women from this place did, so when Miss Hughes got into the car, he didn’t show a pleasant expression. "Where to?"
Miss Hughes gave her home address and placed the money onto the passenger seat as if it were a hot potato. "Here’s the fare."
The driver was dumbfounded for a moment but was an honest man. "So much? That’s unnecessary."
"It’s late at night, you’re working hard too. Thank you for taking me home."
Miss Hughes tightened her collar and looked out the window, feeling that everyone struggled to live. The streetlights on the roadside were dim and faint.
The driver sneaked a glance at the woman in the back, thinking she was different from those other ladies, devoid of any vulgarity, instead serene and beautiful.
When Jasper returned to The Summit Gardens, he saw that the lights in Nancy Alden’s room were still on. He walked to the door, and the bedroom door was open.
Nancy Alden heard the footsteps. "Jasper."
"Still not asleep? Can your body take it?"
Nancy Alden was sitting on the bed, watching as the man approached her bedside. She had just received news that Jasper and Miss Hughes had encountered each other at The Sovereign Club.
She looked at him with some concern, wondering if Miss Hughes had taken the opportunity to say anything nonsense to him.
"I slept a lot during the day, so I’m not tired at night. Where did you go to socialize?" Nancy Alden pulled Jasper down to sit, making a gesture of sniffing. "You smell of smoke."
"Went to The Sovereign Club with a few friends."
It was fortunate he didn’t lie to her. Nancy held Jasper’s fingers. "That kind of place, there are girls keeping you company, right?"
Jasper now felt uncomfortable hearing these two words; he obviously seemed absent-minded. "Just pouring drinks, handing things over, nothing more."
"And so it is, you guys certainly look down on those people there."
Nancy scrutinized Jasper’s expression. It was just as well if he saw it, so he’d see how filthy Miss Hughes was. A woman like her simply went to the place she belonged.
Jasper stared at Nancy in front of him, but what appeared in his eyes was another face.
Initially, when he wanted her, she had a backbone. Could it be that after having her spirit crushed, she could never stand again?
"Jasper, I’ve given Miss Hughes all the Heart Protection Peace. Please, don’t contact each other anymore, okay?"
Nancy said as she lay her face against his chest. "Let’s live our lives well; the past is gone."
"You gave her all the medicine?"
"Yes, I gave her a lot, enough for her sister until the medication hits the market."
Jasper simply replied okay and didn’t stay longer in Nancy’s room. It was too late anyway; besides, he wasn’t in a good mood.
The next day, Josephine brought a bowl of bird’s nest to Nancy’s side. "Henry Louis was overjoyed, just by keeping an eye on Miss Hughes, he gets money every day, and it’s said to be a lot too."
Nancy’s lips curled into a smile. "Miss Hughes wouldn’t dare not listen, would she?"
"Unless she doesn’t want the medicine anymore. The young lady is smart, after all."
Still, Nancy felt this wasn’t enough, not enough to quell the hate in her heart. "I want her to know what it means to have her teeth crushed and still have to swallow them. Josephine, such a shameless woman should let more people see her true colors."
Having said that, she happily drank the bird’s nest in her hand.
The majority of Miss Hughes’s hardships thereafter stemmed from the name Jasper Yale gave her.
Some clients got headaches when they heard a string of pretentious-sounding names. What Amelia, Rachel...
But as soon as they heard the three words Mimi Hughes, they immediately chose her.
Since it was a name picked by Young Master Yale, who would dare to change it casually?
In the evening, Jasper came out of a restaurant, and Hailey Jenkins escorted him to the car. "Young Master, are we heading back to The Summit Gardens?"
Jasper didn’t respond, sitting in the backseat where shadows obscured half of his figure.
After the car drove a short distance, he finally spoke, "To The Sovereign Club."
Hailey recalled there wasn’t any arrangement today, "Young Master, are you planning to meet someone there?"
"No need."
So he was going by himself?
When Jasper arrived, it was still quite early. Wherever he went, he made quite the appearance, with a male manager personally coming to welcome him, "Young Master, the private room is ready, please come in."
Up ahead, several men were walking and talking, "It’s my treat today, old classmates haven’t seen each other for a long time."
"You’ve become successful these past two years, Mr. Chambers speaks differently now."
"Yeah, back in college, you pursued Yelena Hughes for three years. Don’t know if she regrets it all now?"
Upon hearing this name, Jasper glanced over with his peripheral vision.
They were just a few ordinary-looking people.
Charles Chambers laughed heartily, "What boss, just a small business. The Stunning Miss Hughes would never regret it; she’s quite successful now."
After all, he had persistently pursued her for three years without getting so much as a kind look, and there was a note of schadenfreude in Charles Chambers’ words.
"Oh, what’s she doing now?"
The passing hostess from The Sovereign Club was pointed at by Chambers, "I came just for her; I’m going to order her in a bit. It’s been a long time, and we ought to take care of her business."
Thinking about what would happen shortly, Chambers rubbed his hands together excitedly.
Jasper walked by expressionless, and Hailey, having overheard, suggested during their ascent to the upper floor, "Should I inform Miss Hughes to avoid it?"
Jasper’s temples to his jawline were tense. Meddlesome!
"What’s it to you? You’d be cutting off her financial path."
Miss Hughes wasn’t afraid to go to such places, so she wouldn’t fear facing a few acquaintances.
