The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 142: The Dream of Marrying Him, Shattered
The car stopped downstairs at the Hughes family.
Hailey Jenkins looked back and saw Yelena Hughes fast asleep, while Jasper Yale raised a finger to his lips, signaling for silence.
The heater in the car was on full blast, much more comfortable than the cold bedroom at home.
It had snowed all night, piling up thick on the ground. When Anne Hughes woke up, she felt beside her, and it was still empty.
Last night, Yelena only told her she would be back late. She waited until after midnight and couldn’t hold on any longer before dozing off.
Anne sneaked out, planning to go to the breakfast stall at the entrance of the community to buy some piping hot soy milk for Lindsay Walsh.
She was about to call Yelena when she noticed a car parked in front of the building, covered in snow but somewhat familiar-looking.
Feeling uneasy, Anne walked up to it, wiped the snow off the window with her hand, and peered inside.
Hailey Jenkins saw her face immediately and wanted to open the car door and go out.
But Yelena Hughes stirred in the back seat and woke up.
She opened her eyes, her neck feeling sore, and as soon as she moved, Jasper Yale awoke too.
It was then Yelena realized she was lying in the back seat of the car, her head resting on Jasper’s leg. She quickly sat up.
"Why am I sleeping here?"
Hailey Jenkins twisted his waist, feeling like his arms and legs weren’t his. "Miss Hughes, the young master ordered not to disturb you."
Jasper leaned against the other side of the car door, leaving almost all of the space for Yelena. Her shoes were removed and placed to the side.
She found it hard to imagine that Jasper had managed to put up with spending the whole night in the car.
"You should have woken me up."
The car window lowered slightly, allowing Anne to see the people inside clearly. She opened her mouth obediently.
"Sister, brother-in-law."
"!"
Yelena Hughes was momentarily stunned, "Anne, don’t call him that."
Anne hadn’t understood, whom did she call wrong? Jasper’s gaze turned towards her, "Where are you going?"
"I wanted to buy some soy milk."
Yelena quickly slipped on her shoes, "I’ll go with you. By the way, he’s not your brother-in-law. You can call him Young Master or Mr. Yale from now on."
Anne was a bit confused, but that’s what she called him in the cinema last time, and they didn’t say anything then?
Yelena pushed open the car door to get out, intending to greet Jasper before leaving, but noticed his face turning icy cold, looking very sullen.
"Young Master, I’m heading home, thank you for last night..."
"Hurry up and go."
Jasper’s tone was icy, causing Yelena to swallow the rest of her words back down.
She closed the car door, and the car drove off immediately. Anne tugged at her arm, "Sis, why were you sleeping in the car? It must be uncomfortable."
Yelena stretched her shoulders, actually, she slept quite comfortably.
Inside The Summit Gardens.
Nancy Alden heard the sound of a car pulling in and made her way to the window, leaning on her crutch.
Jasper just got back, and she saw the silhouette of the man crossing the courtyard. He hadn’t come home all night, only calling to tell her he had something urgent and then left her alone at home.
After coming upstairs, he didn’t even check in on her room.
Nancy held it together because she had been preparing meticulously to visit the Yale Family in the past few days.
On New Year’s Eve, Nancy had the servants load a pile of gifts into the car.
"Why so many?" Jasper approached, seeing the gifts still not completely packed.
"It’s been a long time since I last saw Uncle Yale and the others, it wouldn’t be right to come empty-handed."
Arriving at the Yale Family’s home, Nancy felt quite nervous. She reached out to take Jasper’s hand next to her.
She gripped the man’s fingers tightly, "I used to come with my parents. Now looking at it, so much has changed."
"Mom will be happy to see you."
As Nancy walked forward with her crutch, she tried to present herself as if she were perfectly fine.
Mrs. Yale personally greeted them at the door, and seeing Nancy, she approached affectionately and linked arms with her. "Nancy, you’re finally here. I’ve been waiting a while."
"Auntie." Seeing Mrs. Yale’s attitude, Nancy felt mostly relieved.
They went inside, and Jasper changed his shoes before taking a few steps in, "Where’s Dad?"
"Upstairs, busy with his work." Mrs. Yale led Nancy into the living room where the coffee table was filled with fruits and snacks, which uplifted Nancy’s spirits as it showed the Yale Family still valued her.
"Auntie, it’s been a while, I’ve missed you."
"Me too. Treat this place as your own home and visit often."
Nancy’s face was filled with joy, "Okay."
Mrs. Yale held her hand, eyes full of sympathy, and they chatted for quite some time.
Jasper sat on the side, maintaining a chilly demeanor even after returning home.
Mrs. Yale glanced over, releasing Nancy’s hand.
"Jasper."
The man raised an eyebrow in response.
"Have you been seeing someone recently? Why haven’t you brought her home?"
At these words, he looked up, and Nancy’s face filled with shock. What did Mrs. Yale mean by that?
She quickly glanced at Jasper, but then heard Mrs. Yale continue with a smile, "Could it be that since Nancy is staying at The Summit Gardens, the girl got jealous?"
Nancy’s face turned pale, nearly transparent, "Auntie, Jasper isn’t seeing anyone outside. He..."
"If he were, would he tell you?" said Mrs. Yale with a slight smile, but some words had to be said plainly, "Nancy, that car accident cost you a lot, and I know your body was injured badly, possibly making it difficult to conceive, but I’ll have Jasper find you the best doctor..."
"Mom!" Jasper’s voice rose slightly, "What are you talking about?"
Nancy stood there in shock, tears clinging to her eyes as she looked at Jasper.
"What do you mean I can’t conceive? How come I didn’t know?"
Jasper put his hand to his neck and gave his tie a tug, "Mom, where did you hear that from?"
Mrs. Yale leaned down, opened a drawer, and placed a diagnosis report and various scans’ copies on the table, "They were delivered to the house this morning."
In a near panic, Nancy dashed over, her legs weak, causing her to slump over the table, 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Swiftly grabbing the diagnosis report and the incomprehensible scans into her hands,
Nancy saw written there that the accident had severely injured her uterus, a fact Jasper had kept from her all along.
"No, it’s not like that..."
"Auntie, my health is fine, really." Surely, she could marry Jasper and have lots of kids for him.
Mrs. Yale, showing reluctance in her heart, helped pull her up, "Nancy, don’t cry. I’ll get the best doctor to treat you."
But Nancy knew, deep down, that her dream of marrying Jasper might just have shattered.
"I... Auntie, I love Jasper, really, I want to marry him." With no other option, her only choice was to fight for herself, "This must be someone trying to harm me, intentionally slandering us."
Mrs. Yale took the scans from her hands.
"Considering your health, I have already consulted a doctor, and he confirmed the situation. Nancy, you saved Jasper’s life, so you’re like a daughter to me."
Feeling hollowed out, Nancy picked up her crutch and hobbled panic-stricken towards the door.
"Nancy." Jasper stood up.
Mrs. Yale bluntly laid things out, "You mustn’t lose your head. Gratitude belongs to gratitude. Do you intend to tie your entire life to her? Your father and I are counting on having grandchildren soon."
Just as Jasper moved to leave, Mrs. Yale stood up, following suit.
"You want to take care of her, I can’t fault you for that, but you can’t live together because of it. Think it over carefully!"
