The Celibate Tycoon Has Fallen-Chapter 123: She Endures at the Gates of Hell
A businessman, after all, doesn’t help without a reason.
...
When Nancy Alden got up, she asked Josephine, "Where’s Jasper Yale?"
Josephine concealed her strange expression, "The young master went out, probably busy with something at the company."
With Josephine’s support, she got up and sat back into her wheelchair, "I also need to go to the company this afternoon; there’s a lot going on recently that needs handling."
"Miss Alden, if you really can’t manage everything, you should let the young master help you."
Nancy Alden had lost her support, and it was indeed difficult to hold up the Alden Family on her own.
"Josephine, I don’t want him to think that I have to rely on him for my whole life. He meets lots of women every day, some with good backgrounds, some beautiful—what am I?"
"But you... saved the young master’s life after all."
Nancy Alden’s heart trembled; is that her only advantage?
After breakfast, Josephine pushed Nancy Alden to the small room next door.
The fire in the fireplace was still burning, and she saw Jasper Yale’s coat folded on the sofa.
"Has Jasper Yale been here today?"
Josephine couldn’t say much, "I didn’t notice."
The snacks Nancy Alden liked were laid out on the coffee table, and Josephine went to open the window a little.
Nancy Alden took out a chocolate, and just as she was about to peel off the wrapper, it slipped from her hand and rolled down her leg to the floor.
She bent down to reach for it, and from this angle, there seemed to be a paper inside.
"Josephine, help me pick that up."
"Alright."
Along with the chocolate, a printed photo was picked up.
Nancy took a look at it and her face turned pale, "How could this thing be here? What does this mean?"
Josephine, realizing she couldn’t hide it, had to confess, "Yelena Hughes came by; I don’t know what she wanted with the young master, but they were here for a while..."
"What?" Jasper Yale actually let Yelena Hughes in and even brought her here.
"I didn’t expect Yelena Hughes to find out so quickly." Josephine took the paper from Nancy Alden’s hand, crumpled it into a ball, and threw it into the fireplace. "Don’t know if she came to accuse the young master or to ask for help?"
"Whose wrongdoing?"
Nancy Alden pressed her slightly trembling hand.
"Don’t worry, Miss Alden, this matter has nothing to do with you." Josephine frowned, but with Yelena Hughes finding Jasper Yale, if he got involved, it would be troublesome.
Nancy Alden had to think of a way, to make sure that before Jasper Yale found out the truth, those sisters would descend into the abyss and never recover.
Yelena Hughes waited for two days, but there was no news from Jasper Yale.
In this matter, she couldn’t afford to wait; after work, she called Jasper Yale directly.
The driver took her to the same upscale community she went to last time, and as Yelena Hughes took the elevator, she couldn’t help but ask, "Hailey Jenkins, is there no progress on that matter at all?"
"There’s been a bit of progress, but we still need to wait a while."
Hailey Jenkins escorted Yelena Hughes into the house and then left.
Jasper Yale came out of the bedroom, drying his hair, with food still steaming on the dining table. "Sit."
Yelena Hughes had no appetite to eat, "Young master, how’s the investigation going?"
"The surveillance from where your sister had the incident has been retrieved, but those people were wearing masks and are hard to identify. They broke the lock to enter the house, but Hailey Jenkins was able to pinpoint one of them through the surveillance along the route."
Jasper Yale pulled out a chair, his hair already half-dry, "But by the time we tracked him down, he had already escaped."
"What do you mean, escaped?"
"Come here."
Yelena Hughes walked over, and Jasper Yale pulled out a chair for her to sit beside him.
"These unruly mobs won’t get far."
"But every minute they’re out there increases the risk of the video being spread."
Jasper Yale had only just showered and was still in a robe, looking relaxed and lazy. He had been in meetings all day and really didn’t want to hear any nagging.
"Eat."
Yelena Hughes couldn’t take a single bite.
"Young master, do you know this was done by Miss Alden, and are you purposely stalling me?"
Jasper Yale picked up a chopstick full of food, and though he looked displeased, he still placed it in Yelena Hughes’s bowl.
"Let’s eat first, then talk."
"I’ve lost my appetite."
Jasper Yale leaned his elbow on the edge of the table. "Do you really think I’m stalling you?"
"I don’t know, but if... I mean if one day, the young master finds out Nancy Alden is truly involved, and you choose to sit by and do nothing, you might as well tell me sooner, so I can make plans early."
Yelena Hughes felt utterly insecure, unsure even if approaching Jasper Yale was the right choice.
The man continued eating without distraction, feeling uncomfortable from Yelena Hughes’s gaze.
"As of now, there isn’t a shred of evidence pointing to Nancy, and that’s the truth."
But in Yelena Hughes’s eyes, she could easily convict Nancy Alden.
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back."
Yelena Hughes was about to get up from her chair but was held back by Jasper Yale.
"Did I say you could leave?"
"Young master, I have no leisure to keep you company."
Jasper Yale was so close that they could see into each other’s depths, and Yelena Hughes really had no strength to handle him.
"If I hadn’t agreed to help your sister, would I still need to see your mood to meet you?" Jasper Yale’s tone wasn’t angry but carried a hint of jest.
He brushed his fingers against Yelena Hughes’s chin, "I’m not going back to The Summit Gardens tonight, and you shouldn’t either. Stay here with me."
Tears welled up in Yelena Hughes’s eyes; he would never know how tormented she felt standing at the gates of Hell.
"I can’t stay out overnight."
Jasper Yale knew she was making excuses, "It’s not like you haven’t stayed out with me before; whatever reason you used to pacify your family back then, you can use again."
Yelena Hughes’s tone turned somewhat sharp.
Unable to hold it back, she spoke with heartfelt indignation, "My sister doesn’t sleep well at night; I have to spend more time with her."
Jasper Yale took the bowl at his side and slammed it down on the table.
With a bang, the bowl cracked open. His hand loosened, and Yelena Hughes watched as the bowl split in two.
"Since you love accompanying your sister so much, keep an eye on her twenty-four-seven, Yelena Hughes. Don’t come looking for me again."
She knew what those words meant, that Jasper Yale wouldn’t help her anymore.
Yelena Hughes forced a smile with difficulty, "Okay, I’ll stay and have dinner with you before leaving, alright?"
Jasper Yale picked up the chopsticks, delivered the food to her mouth.
Even though her stomach was in knots, she still opened her mouth.
