The Broken Halo-Chapter 278: History

When Simon killed the Demon King of Death, he knew that he could not leave the demon king’s corpse in the demon realm.

A demon king was comparable to a demi-god, and the corpse of a demi-god was extremely valuable.

Even for Simon back then, he was planning on using the corpse to craft a treasure or something that would be immensely helpful to him.

’I remember that after I killed the bastard, numerous gods sent me messages to sell the corpse to them.’

’Even the system back then told me that I’d receive a surprise reward if I gave it to the system.’

’I rejected all their offers and decided to keep the corpse in a safe place in my kingdom.’

’I did not even tell any of my friends or even my wife where the corpse was stored because I foolishly believed that I was protecting them.’

’Me refusing the offers of the gods and even the system placed me at odds with many gods and even a few Heralds.’

’I believed that if they didn’t know, then the gods couldn’t attack them.’

’But why the hell am I hearing that the demons had the corpse of that bastard and that they used it to become Demon Kings?’

’Was it the gods? The Heralds? Did they have something to do with this?’

Many theories, guesses, and questions flashed in Simon’s mind, but he exhaled a soft breath, then he continued reading.

"I am just a not so humble historian, and unfortunately for me and you, I am writing this piece of history as a Greater Demon. I am not privy to sensitive informations unlike the true upper echelons of the demon society."

"However, what my sources tell me is that one of the things the Demon Lords took from the Kingdom of Death is the corpse of the Demon King of Death, which is not so surprising since that might be the number one priceless treasure of the kingdom."

"I don’t know what truly happened behind the scenes, but my sources tell me that the Demon Lords devoured the Demon King of Death to also become Demon Kings."

"But despite the fact that the demonic energy concentration had greatly increased, it was still not enough for the Demon Lords to become Demon Kings."

"I heard that the Demon Lords went into seclusion for about seventy years, and hundred years after the death of the great Demon King of Death, hell holes were born."

"I don’t know how hell holes came into existence."

"One moment, we were all living our normal lives, but in the next moment, the entire demon realm began to tremble, and hell holes were formed."

"Many lives were lost, and lots of organizations were also destroyed due to the sudden appearance of the hell holes around the realm."

"When the hell holes were formed, the massive concentration of demonic energy we obtained from the death of the Demon King of Death were all drawn into those hell holes, causing everybody to witness crimson and black tornadoes everywhere."

"Eventually, the demonic energy in the air went back to its original state, and many were horrified by this sudden change."

"They were all used to the dense concentration of demonic energy in the air, and many were afraid that the decrease in demonic energy would affect their future paths."

"Even I was worried about this, but then, news of the Demon Lords who were in seclusion spread throughout the demon realm."

"The Demon Lords were all flying and moving to the locations of the hell stones, and another terrifying battle occurred."

"Though it was not as terrifying as the First Great War, it led to the deaths of nearly a hundred Demon Lords."

Simon’s eyes widened slightly when he read this, and he could not help but pause for a moment.

He continued.

"The battle between the Demon Lords was to control the territories where the hell holes were formed. Weak tribes and clans who did not want to let go of their land were completely destroyed. The strong, the weak, the old, the young, the males, the females, and the babies. All were killed and destroyed without hesitation."

"The Demon Lords and even some Greater Demons showed no mercy."

"During that time, the rulers of many unfortunate weak organizations ran away for their lives. It was a period of slaughter."

"And now that I think about it, it seems the Demon Lords already knew what the hell holes were. They wasted no time charging for the hell holes the moment it was formed, and some even declared immediately that the land around a hell hole was theirs."

"Maybe I’m wrong, but I have this nagging feeling that I’m right. The Demon Lords knew that the hell holes were about to be formed, and they were waiting and prepared for it."

Simon paused and furrowed his brows slightly in thought. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

He too felt, no, he knew that the story was far more complicated than what this historian wrote.

The historian knew far too little, and Simon could not completely trust his or her words.

But there were still a few things that bothered Simon, like the corpse of the Demon King of Death and the hell holes.

He flipped to the next page.

"Anyway, after the battles that took place all over the realm, the strongest and smartest Demon Lords were able to have territories around the hell holes."

"I don’t know how many hell holes there are around the demon realm, but I once heard somebody say that there are six hundred and sixty six hell holes in the realm. But I know that’s just bullshit, if there were so many hell holes, then why did the Demon Lords fight?"

"Anyway, the hell holes led to the demon realm birthing eighteen demon kings. It was something that was completely unimaginable, and many ignorant demons believed that we would finally be able to annihilate the humans and take over earth."

"Oh, they were so foolish."

"We thought the demon realm only benefited from the death of our king, but many didn’t know that even earth benefited from the death of their hero...their traitorous hero though."
