The Broken Angel & Her Overprotective Brothers-Chapter 315: A Warm Hug
"Kaiden..." Shadow called the man who was fast asleep with his head resting against the vampire lord’s shoulder. The two of them drank for nearly an hour as they talked about various stuff related to business, Emily, or just the supernatural world, and somehow, Kaiden ended up falling asleep amid all that talking.
The werewolf shifter just murmured something under his breath before he returned to the deep slumber that had pulled him into a dreamless sleep.
"Kaiden, wake up and go to sleep in your room." Shadow tried again as he shook Kaiden’s shoulders but the man only grabbed his hand and pulled it in his lap as he continued to ignore his calls. "Let me sleep, Shadow..."
"How about you go to your room and sleep there?" Shadow tried again only to receive a silent treatment from Kaiden as the man only buried his face into his shoulder and continued to sleep.
A sigh left Shadow’s lips as he almost felt like giving up but still gave it a last try, "How about you go and accompany, Princess?" He was expecting Kaiden to jump at the idea and hurriedly wake up but that didn’t happen at all.
Instead, the man continued to sleep on his shoulder as he murmured, "Nice try." It was pretty clear at this point that he had no intention of moving at all, he was more than satisfied with his current sleeping position.
"Why are you being so clingy?" Shadow asked as he once again allowed his body to relax and moved his legs to rest on the top of the coffee table.
Kaiden remained silent for a long while that Shadow almost thought that he won’t be getting any answer but to his surprise, the wolf shifter finally spoke after a while, his voice coming out clearer than before as if he was no longer under the sleeping spell. "Because it feels so good..."
Shadow was at a loss for words as he didn’t know how to respond to that. So, he just half laid there on the couch with Kaiden sleeping in his arms.
Once again, several moments passed in silence and he thought that Kaiden had returned to sleep but was once again surprised when the man suddenly spoke again. "Emily always used to tell me just how good it feels to hug you, or even to have you around her. She said that your presence always makes her feel positive. There’s something about you that makes her feel at calmness."
He let out a small sigh before he continued, "Back then, I used to think that the only reason you make her feel like that was because of the bond that you both shared. Little did I know just how wrong I was. It wasn’t the bond... it’s you... it has always been you."
Kaiden finally pulled away to sit straight as he faced Shadow who was listening in silence. "Do you know that you have a very serene and positive aura surrounding you? Just your mere presence can take away all the bad and negative thoughts from those around you. Somehow, you can make people feel at peace with their darkness and worries."
A smile appeared on his lips as he allowed himself to rest against the pillows sitting behind him on the couch. "I lost my parents when I was just a little boy and I had to grow up pretty quick not only because of the business, and the pack but also because of Rylan. I was the new Master of my family, the Alpha of my pack, and the boss of thousands of employees. I wasn’t allowed to stop, mourn my parents’ deaths, or to even take breaks, I was responsible for too many people to think about myself. I couldn’t be selfish."
"All my life, I have always been the one looking out for those around me. My brother, my pack, and my employees, I’m the only one they have to look up to. Rylan was my only family but he was too young for me to ever share my burdens with him." Kaiden stopped to take a deep breath as if he needed that break before he continued.
"Then Emily came into my life and I finally felt like I have found a reason to live like a normal person. But I soon realized that she needed me way more than I needed her. It’s not like I’m worried that he won’t be able to support me, or handle my issues, or understand me if I tried to talk things with her... but... I know that she has too many problems of her own and I need to be there as her support, not as her new problem."
"You aren’t a problem, Kaiden, and I’m sure Princess will agree with me too." Shadow finally spoke after such a long time.
Kaiden shook his head as he smiled but his smile was pretty weak and it didn’t reach his eyes at all. "You didn’t get it, Shadow. I had no one in my entire life to talk about such things so openly. I never felt like I’ll ever found one. I always felt like I have to be strong for those around me and I’m not allowed to be weak... but that changed..."
He turned to look at Shadow and their gazes met as he finished what he was saying, "... it changed when you entered my life. I finally felt like there was at least someone who doesn’t want me to always show my strong side. There is someone who can defend me too, protect me, and also support me, someone who doesn’t need me to be strong for them but will be strong enough to help me too."
"You are that person for me, Shadow. You make me feel like I also have someone in my life to look up to, to tell my stories, to show my weaker side, and to talk my heart out to."
Kaiden didn’t even realize that tears had started rolling down his cheeks until he felt himself getting pulled into a warm hug but instead of one, there were two pairs of arms surrounding him.
