The Bodyguard King's CEO Wife-Chapter 1382: Capturing the Enemy General
Shangguan Jian observed the whole situation. Facing such a ragtag rebel army, there was no need to kill them all; capturing the leader would make the others lay down their arms and surrender. That’s why from the very beginning, Shangguan Jian was searching for the position of the rebel leaders. Now, he had finally found them under the arrow tower in the central village. Even though the rebel army had a large number of people, only a few leaders were on horseback, making them easy to identify.
"Chief Li, lead the infantry here to engage in battle, all the cavalry follow me. Ignore anyone else, go straight for the rebel leader," Shangguan Jian shouted, holding his spear as he easily broke through the rebel lines. The cavalry behind him followed like a long dragon, piercing straight into the camp.
"Hurry, hurry up and go." The rebel general turned his head to see Shangguan Jian charging at him like a God of Slaughter and quickly waved his horse whip. Several confidants and guards turned to counterattack, trying to delay Shangguan Jian’s chase.
"Those who block me will die." Shangguan Jian thrust his spear, piercing one person directly. He twisted his body to dodge another’s longsword, drew his sword, and with a swift motion, cut down both man and horse. However, before they could catch up, hundreds of rebel soldiers charged out from both sides, each clad in armor, and wielded more advanced weapons than those of the previous rebels. They seemed to be the elite of the rebel army.
"General, there are too many rebels, we can’t break through." The horses have an instinct for survival, and it was difficult to charge effectively against spears; forcing through might only increase casualties. But if they let the rebel leaders escape from the rear village, it would be like letting a tiger return to the mountain. The terrain in the deep mountains was complex, making it impossible to send troops to search. They might soon form a new rebel army in Gong County.
"Damn it, follow me." Ultimately, Shangguan Jian chose the former option. He would never gamble with his brothers’ lives. If capturing the rebel leader meant losing an additional forty or fifty men, he would never agree to it.
Shangguan Jian led the cavalry away from the spear formations, instead taking a detour from the road on the right, where the rebel forces were weaker. Although they had completely reacted to the surprise, few dared to stop Shangguan Jian. He was a valiant and formidable general; no wonder Han Hao trusted him with two thousand soldiers. With Shangguan Jian’s current military rank, being a ’Hundred Generals’, leading two thousand men at once was an extremely daunting task.
"Get out of my way." Shangguan Jian expertly wielded his spear, killing a dozen people along the way, moving as if there was no one in his path, charging straight for the rear camp.
Rear Village.
"Sir, hurry and leave, once out of the rear village, there are deep mountains with food supplies. Once we enter, we won’t have to worry about the Qin Army." Several rebel leaders and guards rushed to the rear village in a state of disarray. The saying ’victory or defeat defines the ruler or the bandit’ had never been more evident.
"Open the village gate quickly, let the general out." A deputy general shouted at the soldiers guarding the village gate; however, his voice was like a stone sinking into the sea, with no one responding.
"What... what is going on?" Everyone looked at each other, puzzled.
"Are you deaf? This is the general, hurry and open the gate," the deputy general shouted impatiently, yet still, no one responded. Now, in a hurry, he dismounted and walked towards the village gate.
"Damn you, you people..."
Bang.
However, before the deputy general could finish complaining, he was unable to complain anymore, as three crossbow arrows pierced his chest, killing him on the spot.
"Release the arrows."
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh.
In an instant, hundreds of arrows were shot out. The warhorses, unable to withstand the pain, reared up and roared into the sky, causing the riders to fall to the ground unprepared.
"It’s an assassin, protect the general."
"Now you realize, but it’s too late." Ye Shikai slowly stepped out of the darkness, the ground littered with dozens of bodies. Several deputy generals surrounded the rebel leader, trembling. Those guarding the village gate were not rebels but Ye Shikai’s squad.
"Two deputy generals, one general, chief, how much military merit would there be if we captured them all?" Man Cang’s eyes lit up. Capturing the rebel leader would be a great accomplishment. Although they were not the northern Wolf Clan but rather rebels, it was something ordinary soldiers could not even dream of.
"I don’t know, but getting promoted three levels shouldn’t be a problem." Ye Shikai walked forward slowly, and with every step he took, the others retreated a step.
"Surrender, you are surrounded. If you don’t surrender, the only path left is death." Ye Shikai held his longsword, his gaze cold. He didn’t mind killing these people on the spot, but if they could be captured alive, it would be better.
One deputy general, seemingly unwilling, gritted his teeth and lunged at Ye Shikai, swinging his sword at his neck.
Bang.
Ye Shikai calmly drew a dagger from his waist and blocked the deputy’s copper sword, stabbing him in the chest with the longsword in his other hand.
"Alright, how many of you still want to come forward, come on." Ye Shikai said lightly. With his skill, it didn’t matter if they all came at him; they wouldn’t stand a chance. In his view, these people rebelled not to overthrow the Qin Dynasty but to gather men under the guise of this slogan. In chaotic times, having men meant having land, and having land meant gaining power and claiming the world, step by step. Ultimately, what they wanted was status. But this man wasn’t so lucky. If Ye Shikai and Shangguan Jian hadn’t received military orders or hadn’t come to Gong County, he might have had a chance. But now, his chances were gone entirely...
"Brother, if you let me go, I can give you as much gold and silver as you want. If you help me succeed, I’ll reward you handsomely." At the last moment, the rebel leader still refused to give up, trying to win over Ye Shikai.
"Haha."
"Ha, ha."
The others laughed uncontrollably when they heard this. Man Cang slowly stepped forward, pointing at Ye Shikai.
"Do you know who this is? He’s the deputy commander of these Qin troops, and with your current sorry state, trying to win him over is a dream."
"Alright, take them all down," Ye Shikai ordered, and his squad members immediately rushed forward, tying up the rebels. The defeated rebels didn’t even resist; they knew they had lost, and resisting now was a one-way road to death.
"Chief, our troops and the rebel forces are still fighting in the central village. What should we do now?"
"Rest assured, with this old man, the battle will end early." Ye Shikai yanked the man up, placed him on the horse, and led them toward the central village. Though the rebels were numerous, their morale was broken. Once they saw their leader captured, they wouldn’t even have a shred of confidence left.
