The Blade Of God-Chapter 58: The Maze of Arcane (Slash III)
The bright sun blends into the blue sky, mixed in with white clouds and shades filled in with large, heavy trees. The air is cool; the wind softly blowing as the temperature lowers, yet the sun still stands, stronger than ever.
There is a pair of blue eyes that are shut close, yet suddenly, they flinch, impacted by the bright rays of the current heat of the sun. Then, there’s the twitch of thin, pink lips, the blowing softly of long, thick blonde hair out one’s face, than the flare of one’s nostrils as they sniff the fresh air of the forest.
"Fuck."
Lia scowls, squeezing her eyes shut before she looks up to the sky, watching as the clouds in the clear skies begin to shift like shape shifters. The small girl lets out a sigh as she lays flat on the grassy earth with her body sprawled out. Her fingers graze a weird, odd feeling of silky, thin strains, and Lia realizes that the other small girl from their group--Amur--is sound asleep beside her, loudly snoring as she softly mumbles under her breath.
Lia sits up, watching the clouds slowly move with bored, unamused eyes, until she suddenly sees a large, thin object burst through the sky, tumble through a cloud, and jot straight down to the earth. Lia hangs her mouth open, gawking as the cloud her eyes focus on before is now spilt in half in the sky.by Gods, even if they are not Gods themselves. Although the Gods are the most powerful, heroes and heroic and holy spirits are a close second in comparison.
"Well whoever did that is definitely the tall girl with the helmet." Lia mutters, turning her head and almost letting out a scream as a very awake Amur sits up next to her, her big blue eyes watching the spilt cloud in a blank, monotone expression.
"That’s definitely Zayn." Amur said, letting out a loud huff as she sags her shoulders. "Great, where the hell even is she-where the hell even are we? And where is Chase? Vice Clarke? That big oaf-?"
"Well, it seems like we’re in the Forest of Arcane." Lia said, pinching the bridge of her nose in irritation. "And since Aliane isn’t with me nor the other knights, we all probably got spilt in this stupid forest-maze shit. Ugh, this sucks!"
Amur nods her head, throwing her head back as she lets out a annoyed grunt.
"Well...what should we do now, uh-um-Magician Lia?" Amur awkwardly asked, turning her head and meeting eyes with the other small woman. Lia grumbles, rolling her eyes before she shrugs in response.
"I guess we should find a freaking way out of this dump." Lia said. "I can’t believe even Rel isn’t with me! How the hell did we even get separated?!"
"Actually...that’s a good question..." Amur said, dusting off her dark robes and picking grass from her brown hair tied up in a high, slicked-down pony tail. "How the hell do you get separated by a summoning spirit?"
"He’s a heroic spirit." Lia said, following Amur’s lead and dusting her robes off. "He has a lot more of a magic circuit then ordinary spirits, so honestly if he wanted to be on the other side of the country, he technically could. Rel’s holy magic always seems so never-ending."
"Ah. that’s nice to know." Amur said. "I’m not much of a summoning mage, so I never knew that was even possible."
"Only depending on the type of spirit." Lia said. "Mine and Aliane are both heroic spirits. They did something worthy to be acknowledged entities."
"Well since we’re lost in a forest, I guess it could call for a history lesson." Amur said, watching Lia as she rustles in her magical robe to pull out the copy of the map Jeremiah gave everyone before she quickly skims the map and heads towards a direction, a direction Amur follows disinterestedly. "I assume that’s why you and Aliane are two of the top mages in the tower."
"One of the reasons, yeah." Lia said as she shrugs. "We’ve also known the mage tower master--he’s like a father to us. He...he taught me and Aliane everything we know."
"A father, huh?" Amur mumbles, kicking a pebble in front of her. "Does that mean you and Magician Aliane are close?"
Lia stills, freezing up as her pale face suddenly blossoms red. She gasps, suddenly shoving a small finger in Amur’s face, who jolts back in surprise.
"Y-y-y-you-! Hey! Watch what you say!" Lia exclaims. "The hell do you mean by close, eh-?!"
"Like...friends...Lia?" Amur said, letting out a sigh as she offers Lia a look of annoyance as she bats the finger in her face away.
"Whatever the hell you’re thinking, never even thought to ask."
"O-oh..." Lia said, straightening her back and cleaning her throat. "S-sorry, then, Knight Amur."
"But now I am curious," Amur said, a small smirk on her face. "It’s just us girls. Do tell me the gossip regarding yourself and Sir Aliane."
"What?! Gods no! There isn’t nothing to speak of!" Lia said, turning her head and letting out a loud huff. "He’s as stale as a large boulder. I don’t think that man even knows what feelings are!"
Amur snorts, shrugging her shoulders as she steps over another rock her in path.
"What about you and twinkle-toes?" Lia asked, letting out a soft huff as she plays with the tips of her blonde hair. "He’s cute, for sure, but seems really...uh..."
"Dumb?" Amur asked, "Yeah, love Chase, but that dude is such a freakign doorknob sometimes it’s scary. But then sometimes he gets so serious, and I don’t know which version of him should I believe in!" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Lia hums, stopping in her tracks as she looks to a slim path at the left and right of her. Lia reads the map, contemplating on which direction to do before she shrugs, deciding to wing it and go left with Amur following closely behind her.
"So he’s a dolt, but he’s also not? Interesting!" Lia said, letting out a scoff. "So like, least he’s good-looking, but is there anything else?"
"Well Chase-he isn’t ugly on the eyes, no, not at all." Amur said, clearing her throat. "A-and he can be pretty good in battle and he’s a great fighter. And to be honest, he’s great with Zayn--he’s a good big brother to her so-well-so the good overlays the bad but..."
"But?" Lia said, keeping her eyes on the map in her hands.
"But if I’m honest," Amur said, nervously shifting her eyes, "I’ve only heard him really like meat and food. People barely interest him and-if I’m super honest, I’ve never heard him talk about a woman before-Lia-?!"
Lia stares at Amur with wide eyes, opening her mouth to speak, but she lifts her head up too soon, smacking her face against a large tree, causing Lia to gasp and fall backwards, slamming her back on the ground as she wallows in pain.
"Holy Gods, are you okay, Magician Lia?!" Amur asked, falling to her knees as she helps Lia sit up, hurrying to rip a piece of her black garment from her long skirt to help Lia hold her head high and pinch her nose, which is beginning to losely run with blood.
"Fuck no! My pretty face got hurt, piece of-!" Lia said, whining at the pain she feels as she holds her nose up. "Gods, why the face-?! It’s always the face!"
"W-well, it’s only bleeding! I don’t see any big marks." Amur said, lowering Lia’s face slightly to examine her nose for any cuts or scrapes. Luckily, only a small bruise forms on her tiny nose. "Maybe a little bruise in the morning, but nothing too bad."
"Okay, great that’s-that’s good..." Lia said, holding her head up, but she suddenly stills, her eyes focused to something above her head. "That...that may or may not be good, though..."
Amur blinks, slowly raising her eyes to where Lia’s eyes are, meeting face-to-face with a small fairy floating in the air with her wings keeping her above ground, yet the major detail about the family that seemed a bit odd were her bulky, very bulky shoulders, big teeth, and long eyebrow in the form of a "u" that hung near her squinty eyes.
"Um...I thought fairies were like...cute maybe?" Amur said, watching as the fairy flexes near Lia’s forehead before she stops, turning her head as she hears Amur’s words. "Okay, maybe I shouldn’t have said that..."
"Probably not..." Lia said, watching as the fairy hisses, twirling quickly as she is absorbed by a small light that slowly grows larger until a large, hairy, mulched fairy is standing in front of the small girls--feets about them in height and eons above them in strength. "I was right. This shit is about to suck."
The large muscled fairy roars, causing the two small girls to cry and hug each other in fear before they share a quick look, nod their heads, and summon everything in their being as they spirit the opposite direction.
