The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 41: Morning Kiss
Chapter 41: Morning Kiss
Damien, equally surprised, opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it. "Erm, I am sleepy too! I’ll go home and return in the morning," he said, pressing his lips to hide his chuckle. He quickly evacuated the room, leaving the couple alone.
"Here?" Zevian asked, raising an eyebrow.
Evelyn nodded, not catching the mischief in his voice. As Damien walked out, closing the door to their VIP room, she felt much more relaxed, and the urge to get a hug from Zevian intensified.
"Well, that’s not a good idea," Zevian replied in a serious tone. When Evelyn frowned, thinking he felt the double bed was too small, he scratched his brow and continued, "You’re still sick and need a lot of rest."
It took Evelyn a second to realize that he had misinterpreted her innocent request as something wild. Her cheeks instantly turned red. She glared at him slightly, forcing him to break into a chuckle at her cute expression. He would never miss an opportunity to tease her!
"I just don’t want to be alone," Evelyn murmured, pursing her lips into a small pout. In reality, she wanted to be alone, but only with him.
Zevian broke into a smile, understanding exactly what she wanted. He stood up, and Evelyn moved a little, making space for him on the bed with a smile. She carefully lifted her left hand, attached to the IV.
Zevian lay down beside her, the bed large enough to keep a small distance between them. Evelyn looked at him, their eyes locking in a mutual understanding that he opened his arms. "Come here," he said, pulling her into a tight embrace.
Evelyn instantly moved closer, her head resting on his chest. As he wrapped his arm around her, gently patting her head, both closed their eyes and sighed in unison. She felt safe, the uneasiness in her heart melting away, while Zevian was glad she was safe and sound in his arms.
"Good night," Evelyn mumbled, snuggling against his chest before slowly falling asleep.
Zevian felt her fall asleep soundly, her light snores bringing a smile to his face. Whatever had happened, he believed it was bound to bring them closer. It had helped them confess feelings they had suppressed without uttering a word, bridging the gap of six suffocating years apart. He hoped that they could stay like this forever, warm and content in each other’s arms.
Adjusting her bangs, he kissed her forehead and carefully covered her with the blanket. Wrapping his arm around her again, he patted her head like that of a child, making sure she slept well.
Next Morning
"Is daddy sick too?" Kiana asked her grandmother, her eyes glistening with tears. She had woken up very happy this morning, having spent the best day yesterday, only to hear from her nanny that Evelyn was sick and taken to the hospital last night while she was asleep.
Zevian woke up slowly, the morning rays filtering through the window that the nurse had just opened. His eyes quickly landed on his daughter crying in his mother’s arms, then back to Evelyn, hugging his waist tightly. She groaned feeling him move, and snuggled closer to him, bringing a smile to both the nurse’s and Rosalind’s faces.
"She needs to eat something and take her meds, sir," the nurse said apologetically, feeling guilty for forcing the couple to break apart.
Zevian nodded and gently patted Evelyn’s cheek, trying to wake her up. Evelyn, who had completely forgotten they were in a hospital, grumbled, "A few more minutes."
"Kiana is here," Zevian murmured, slowly bringing her back to the present from her dreamy world. Evelyn slowly opened her eyes, her blurry vision focusing on him before moving to Rosalind standing beside their bed.
"Mommy," Kiana’s shaky voice completely woke her up. With Zevian’s help, she slowly sat up and smiled at her daughter.
"Baby," Evelyn mumbled and opened her arms, wanting to embrace the little girl. That’s how they always started their day; whoever woke up first would run to the other’s room and greet with a tight hug. She didn’t want to break their little tradition.
Kiana looked at her grandmother, asking if she could hug her sick mommy. Rosalind nodded and passed her to Evelyn, with Zevian helping to make sure her syringe hand wasn’t hurt.
"I am sorry," Kiana murmured, tears streaming down her face. The little girl felt sad and guilty, blaming herself for forcing her parents to take her to the beach. If not, they all would have been at home now, happily enjoying their breakfast together.
"Oh, it’s not your fault, baby," Evelyn replied, patting the little girl’s head. When Kiana looked up, sniffling, she added, "Mommy should have been careful."
If she hadn’t stepped out of the beach house, things would have been normal. Or so she thought, slowly recalling the events of last night. But her thoughts drifted back to the tea she drank given by the maid, as it seemed like the person who hit her didn’t use much force to force her unconscious.
When the little girl didn’t stop crying, Evelyn added, "I am fine, baby. But I think a kiss from my little princess would heal me quickly."
Kiana blinked in confusion. A small shy smile lit her face, and leaning forward, she placed a kiss on Evelyn’s forehead. "Feeling better?" she asked, sitting on her lap again.
"I think I need one more," Evelyn mumbled, her words lifting the mood in the room. Zevian smiled as Kiana giggled and kissed Evelyn’s cheek, their bond even amusing Rosalind, who hadn’t expected them to get this close so quickly.
Just as everyone was smiling at the mother-daughter interaction, the door suddenly banged open and Avery walked inside, her expression grim.
Tears welled up in her eyes and before anyone could stop her, she was already running to her best friend. "Evy!"
Zevian took Kiana in his arms as Avery pounced on Evelyn, hugging and crying loudly. "You gave me a heart attack!"
"There, there!" Evelyn patted her friend’s back, not sure if she was the one who was sick or Avery herself. "I haven’t died yet, silly. Stop crying!" she grumbled, feeling her cries getting louder. Kiana was far better than this big bear.
"You will strain her," Zevian mumbled, feeling his cousin going a little too overboard.
"Stop crying, Aunt," Kiana said, raising her little hand to pat Avery’s big head. "Mommy is fine now. And she will feel better if you give her a kiss," she added with a smile, trying to cheer her up.
"I think her husband gave her enough last night," Damien mumbled, walking inside. "Right, Zevian?" he teased, his words making Evelyn blush slightly.
"Shut up!" Avery grumbled, breaking the hug. Glaring at the pig she didn’t know how was able to manage such a mafia, she added, "How can you joke in this situation?!"
"Oh, come on! She isn’t dead yet-" Damien scowled back, instantly regretting it when he saw Zevian glare at him. This cousin duo just loved picking petty fights with him!
Evelyn smiled as her best friend started fighting with Damien. The nurse took the opportunity to check her vitals and change her IV drips, then walked outside, leaving the family alone.
"Did you eat or drink something before going out?" Damien started interrogating Evelyn, bringing seriousness to the ward.
Evelyn nodded, the maid’s face and the drink she brought quite clear. "It was some herbal tea. A maid brought it to me saying Agatha sent it."
"But Agatha said you were the one who requested that tea and asked the maid to get it quickly," Rosalind said, having secretly interrogated Agatha.
Zevian’s expression darkened, his fists clenching in frustration. So a rat helped the main culprit, under his eyes. He would not let any of them off easily!
