The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 107: Death Anniversary
Chapter 107: Death Anniversary
Evelyn’s face flushed red at Avery’s words and when her eyes met with Zevian, it was hard to hide her embarrassment. Even the hospital staff looked in her direction, increasing the urge to dig a hole and bury herself.
"So, will you reconsider it?" Avery asked again with a smile. She leaned over the door frame and looked at her friend, making it obvious that she was all set to tease her. When the staff looked troubled, exchanging glances, she added, "They have been through a lot. Don’t you think they deserve to stay together?"
The doctor shook his head adamantly much to Avery’s displeasure. With a serious face, he replied, "Their bodies are still recovering and can’t handle any activities. It’s too dangerous, sorry."
And Evelyn felt like just dissipating in the air at his words. Her face was so red that even Damien stifled his laugh, turning away to control himself as the doctor’s words kept playing in his head. Lucius too smiled and cleared his throat, stepping forward to stop the doctor who continued to explain all the fatal consequences.
"But-" Before Avery could dig a grave for her further, Evelyn pulled her inside the room and shut the door.
"What was that?" Evelyn grumbled, peeking through the glass frame on the door to make sure they were emptying the hallway. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"I was just trying to help you, Evy." Avery murmured with a pout and when her best friend glared at her, she continued, "Don’t be so mad."
"I don’t need your help. So, shut up!" Evelyn retorted, walking back to her bed. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed out loud, the earlier incident replaying in her mind like a broken record.
"Duh, you are no fun." Avery didn’t stop and continued walking toward her, "I was just being kind enough to..." she paused and gasped out loud. "Don’t tell me, you already did it? Is that why you are so angry? Did he not meet your standards?"
Evelyn groaned out loud, her cheeks flushing again at her questions. "Stop it, Avy!" she grumbled, sitting on the bed. When Avery opened her mouth again, Evelyn forcefully closed it and ended the discussion, "We did not do it yet, okay? End it here!"
Avery smiled sheepishly and removed Evelyn’s hand covering her mouth. "I knew it. Though your reunion had been quite fast-paced, I know you like slow-burn romance more." She started again which made Evelyn sigh out loud and give up.
"Get out!" Evelyn retorted, pointing at the door but when Avery pretended to not hear it, she sighed out loud. Glaring at her best friend one last time, she got down the bed and locked herself in the bathroom. Yes, this felt like the best place to hide from everyone.
Avery laughed out loud the moment Evelyn slammed the bathroom door shut loudly. "That was fun!" She murmured, applauding herself for making her cool best friend flustered for once. It felt like she had gotten back the key to Evelyn’s weakness, which was of course none other than the topics related to Zevian.
"Alright, no need to lock yourself there forever," Avery said out loud, getting up from the bed. "I am going to check on him! You can come out now," she added, before walking out of the room.

Once everything was organized in Zevian’s room, Damien and Lucius decided to leave, having other matters to take care of. "Call me if you need anything." Damien reminded again, and at Zevian’s nod, the duo walked out of his room.
The attending doctor finished checking his vitals and other necessary details before his senior and Zevian’s main doctor entered the room with his team.
"How are you feeling, Mr. Reign?" Jimmy asked with a smile, looking at his reports.
"Better."
"That’s good," Jimmy responded before checking out the wound on his shoulder. "It will take a couple of more days to completely heal and we were asked to keep you here until then by Senior Reign." He detailed, having just finished his conversation with Jonathan Reign. That old man was worried Zevian would start working as soon as he returned and keeping him here felt like a better option.
Zevian nodded in response. "What about my wife?"
"Even her father requested to keep her here until she was completely healed," Jimmy replied with a smile, recalling how William Wright had pressed on this matter yesterday. "There’s just a hairline crack in her wrist, so we will take out the cast soon. Other than that, she doesn’t have any major injuries."
Zevian nodded and thanked the doctor gratefully. "Why don’t you discharge her first? She doesn’t like the hospital much," he requested, quite aware as much as Evelyn tried to act cool, this place brought back the memories of her mother, the day she got shot and died because of her.
"Alright." Jimmy agreed without pressing on it much. "I will look at her reports and inform you."
"Can I go out on a walk?" Zevian asked his last question for the day. The hospital was set in a very beautiful location, giving a perfect view of the mountains and the sunset. Evelyn would love it.
"Sure. But don’t be out for too long." Jimmy replied with a smile. With that, the doctor and his team left the room, leaving behind a nurse to look after Zevian.
Once the nurse took out the drips attached to him and also the other device on his forefinger, Zevian slightly stretched his fingers, feeling they had been numb with all the treatments. Slowly wearing his slippers, he walked out of the room.
A frown tugged his lips to find Evelyn all covered up in a blanket on the bed as he reached her room. His eyes shifted to Avery beside the bed who shrugged in response, her smile indicating Evelyn was totally fine.
"Are you here to see your wife?" Avery asked, her voice a little louder though Evelyn could hear it well. When Zevian didn’t respond, simply stared as if asking what was she up to, Avery continued, "She is pretending to be asleep. You can come back again maybe tomorrow."
Evelyn groaned beneath the sheets, closing her eyes tightly in frustration. They had seen him walk through the window and she had pleaded, begged Avery to help her just this once but of course, the treacherous friend betrayed her as usual.
A smile tugged Zevian’s lips, realizing she hadn’t overcome the earlier incident yet. "Let’s go on a walk," He said, his words causing Evelyn to cry silently.
"Come on!" Avery tucked the sheets, pulling them to expose Evelyn. "stop acting like a teenager, Evy." She grumbled, forcing her best friend to sit up.
Evelyn scowled at Avery, making sure to remember every bit of her teasing so she could get a payback when this useless friend fell for someone. Her eyes then fell on Zevian waiting at the door frame for her. How could he look so handsome even when sick? She thought, feeling the hospital’s shirt and pants matching him perfectly.
"Go, enjoy your little date." Avery wished her friend with a smile. Adjusting Evelyn’s hair and the bangs over her forehead, Avery winked at her before helping her out of bed.
Evelyn put on her slippers and slowly walked to her handsomely sick husband. Her heart skipped a beat when Zevian took out his hand for her. Holding it firmly, she walked away with him, a silly smile spread on her face.
Zevian took her toward the small terrace that was attached to their floor, the VIP floor of this hospital made only for the influential ones. It was filled with greenery, with grassed tiles on the floor to small bushes and trees filled everywhere.
Evelyn noticed the empty white bench and looked at him, "Let’s sit over there."
Zevian nodded with a smile and they both walked over and occupied the bench. Luckily there were no other patients and it felt cozy and private moment, something Evelyn had been wanting to spend with him for quite days.
"Ah, it’s beautiful," Evelyn exclaimed, looking at the sun that was slowly setting behind the mountains. She looked at her hand with the IV needle and then at his left hand having the same plaster that made her chuckle softly.
When Zevian turned toward her, Evelyn said, "This is just funny how we finally got time to spend with each other. But it’s in the hospital."
Zevian nodded, though regretting it slightly as memories of the accident flashed through his mind. The way they had fought just a few hours before it, and how she was laying there in the driver’s seat, cold and unconscious still made his heart race with dread.
Evelyn sensed the change in expression and realizing he was thinking about something sad, she held his hand. Her touch brought Zevian out of his thoughts and he sighed softly, holding onto her hand firmly.
Evelyn smiled at him and offered, "How about we go on a date next weekend? We both would be discharged by then and also sorted out our pending work."
But Zevian’s expression changed at her words, causing Evelyn to blink in confusion. Her smile faded, and leaning closer, she asked, "What’s wrong?"
"Its..." Zevian sighed out loud. Closing his eyes, he replied, "It’s Katherine’s death anniversary next weekend."
