The Billionaire's Rental Wife Is A Hot Shot-Chapter 105: Trapping Sabrina
Chapter 105: Trapping Sabrina
"What is she doing here?" Avery growled, taking a step forward and standing in front of Evelyn.
Natalie and Fredrick glanced at each other while Sabrina stood behind, her expression neutral, unlike the anger she always carried when facing their family, especially Zevian and Evelyn. Fredrick stepped forward, now a meter from where Avery stood, and looked at Evelyn on the bed.
"How are you feeling, Evelyn?" He asked, trying to distract but knew better than anyone else that he couldn’t avoid it for longer.
Evelyn looked at him, his expression one that conveyed he was here to ask for something. She then glanced at Natalie, her eyes falling on Sabrina for a second before she spoke to her sister-in-law "Why isn’t she behind the bars yet?"
Natalie didn’t have an answer for Evelyn’s question, torn between the choices and the people on either side of this situation. Taking a deep breath, she met Evelyn’s questioning eyes and replied, "She is here to apologize."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised or rather disappointed with what Natalie was trying to do. Leaning back on the raised bed, she asked, "So you want me to forgive the person who tried to kill Zevian?"
"No, it’s not what-"
"Your brother might mean nothing to you but it’s not the case for me, Natalie." Evelyn cut whatever nonsense Natalie wanted to use to convince her. When their eyes met again, she continued, "I won’t leave anyone who tried to kill my man. And not specifically someone who had been hurting him for so long."
"My target wasn’t Zevian!" Sabrina had the guts to speak, her words causing Avery to grit her teeth. This woman still had the nerve to argue!
"But you did crash into the car he was in," Evelyn replied, glaring at Sabrina standing at the door.
Before Sabrina could further argue, Damien and Lucius entered the sight, standing right in front of the door, leaving no room for her to flee. Following him was a team of police officers, with two woman cops all ready to catch the culprit whose lawyer had argued she wasn’t driving the car that night and proved her innocence.
Sabrina’s face paled in horror, realization gnawing her inside that she turned around to glare at her ex-husband. Fredrick had approached her last night and tried to convince her that Evelyn would forgive her for Dominic and they all could shift to Aracemia together. His lawyer skills came in handy that the manipulations worked and she agreed, feeling it would be a win-win situation since she was sure Zevian wouldn’t leave her if he woke up again.
"You!" Sabrina pointed her finger at Fredrick and then at Natalie, fear gripping inside her heart.
The main officer stepped inside and declared, "Ms. Grey, your words have been recorded and we are here to arrest you for attempting murder on Mr and Mrs. Reign." They didn’t give Sabrina a chance to retort as the two female officers grabbed each of her arms and put the cuffs on her hands.
"No! No! They tricked me into saying this!" Sabrina grumbled, kicking her legs in the air as the officers dragged her out of the room. "You... You can’t arrest me! They killed my daughter! They are the real culprits."
Evelyn and Avery looked at each other in confusion, not understanding what just happened or why Sabrina was arrested. They watched her being dragged far away, her cries slowly coming to an end.
Natalie sighed out loud and looked at Fredrick, "Thanks for your help, Uncle."
Fredrick smiled and shook his head. Gently patting her head, he replied, "It’s nothing in front of what you are doing for my son."
"What just happened here?" Avery asked, breaking their little sweet moment.
Damien stepped inside, his presence making Natalie’s skin prickle in irritation. Looking at her and then at Avery, he cleared out, "Sabrina brought in a scapegoat maid who confessed she was the one riding the car and shooting Zevian that day. Natalie and her sweet father-in-law planned out to bring her out of the house and make her stand in front of you, quite sure you would trigger the anger in her again."
"Oh," Avery murmured, nodding in understanding. She had been too stressed out about Evelyn and Zevian that she didn’t pay any attention to Sabrina or what might have happened to her. All she heard was her uncle Jonathan had taken in charge of taking care of her and seems like she outsmarted him. But luckily, they were able to put her in place again.
"Also, please suggest to keep her in a separate or cell or even better send her to asylum." Avery grumbled, just the image of Sabrina raising her blood pressure. "She seems to have totally lost it and needs treatment." She added, looking at Fredrick who was the only person still somewhat connected to Sabrina among them.
"Don’t worry," Damien replied instead, his eyes fixed on the phone in his hands. "My team will make sure to treat her well until she willingly begs them to send her to the actual cops."
Avery’s mouth widened in surprise and even Natalie was shocked by his words. They both turned around to him, making Damien finally look up from his screen.
"They weren’t real cops?" Evelyn asked, slowly making out that her intuitions were true.
Lucius smiled and shook his head. "They were our team. We can’t let her go off so easily."
"But the real judicial system could have given her the right punishment." Natalie grumbled, her voice tinged with irritation.
Damien scoffed at her words, shaking his head as if she was telling a joke. "Do you think a few years of jail is enough punishment for touching Zevian?" He asked in a dangerous tone. When Natalie gulped and took a step back, feeling his eyes intimidating, he added, "She deserves more than that for everything they had gone through because of her."
Natalie turned around to Evelyn, feeling she would be against it but all she met with were cold blazing eyes. Even Avery nodded, agreeing with Damien’s decision that made her sigh out loud.
"When are planning to leave?" Damien questioned Fredrick, catching everyone in the room off guard.
Fredrick blinked in confusion and replied, "I plan on staying for two more weeks."
"Good!" Damien nodded in satisfaction. "That would give me enough time to handover everything to Lucius," he murmured, his eyes twinkling with mischief as they met Natalie’s eyes.
Avery frowned in response, before realizing the most important thing that had slipped out of her mind. "You bastard! Aren’t you done with that prank yet?" She growled, stepping forward and grabbed his collar.
Damien simply shrugged off her hand and turned around to Lucius, "Let’s check on Zevian before leaving."
Lucius nodded and they both walked out of the room, with Avery following behind to finish their discussion. She wasn’t going to leave him until he stops whatever new game he wanted to play with Natalie. She would never let them get married for real!
Once they were out, the room fell into thick silence. Evelyn cursed herself for even doubting Natalie’s intentions while Natalie was lost in her own deep shit of problems. Their accident had kept Damien away from approaching her or even bringing this topic. But what he just said, Natalie was unable to shake it off.
"Is Zevian awake?" Fredrick asked Evelyn, breaking the tension in the room.
Evelyn replied with a nod, "It’s been a day but doctors are still keeping him under observation."
Fredrick sighed in relief. "That’s good to hear." With a smile, he added, "I will visit you both again once he gets transfered to normal ward."
Evelyn smiled at him in gratitude before Natalie bid him off with a side hug. Once Fredrick left the room, both women stared at each other, the tension returning to the room.
"How are you feeling?" Natalie asked, slowly taking the chair beside her.
"Better," Evelyn replied and after a small pause, she asked, "And you?"
Natalie weakly smiled in response. Her expression was enough for Evelyn to understand that she was not doing well and the major cause of course Damien. A headache hit her again as she recalled that night before th accident, the way Damien had barged into the Reign mansion and claimed to be Natalie’s new husband. The marriage certificate flashed in her mind that slightly made her dizzy and she couldn’t imagine what the poor woman in front of her might be feeling right now.
"I still can’t understand his intentions." Evelyn grumbled, her voice tinged with frustration. "Why do you think he did it?" She asked, looking at Natalie hoping for her to have some answers or even clues.
"Because he loves her," A little voice answered instead, making both woman look at the entrance.
Kiana greeted them with a big grin while Elias carrying her looked just as puzzled as the other two at her words.
"What?" Elias asked in confusion.
"Yep!" Kiana nodded with confidence. Turning to her Mommy and Natalie, she continued with a smile, "Uncle Damien had proposed to her when we were in Qubarc but she rejected him."
