The Billionaire Twins Need A New Mommy!-Chapter 808: That’s just who he was.
Just a dream.
A bad dream from which Lola would wake up. That was what she wished, and it was granted.
As a tear trickled down the side of her face, her eyes slowly opened. Her body ached, her head throbbed, and her vision was blurry from the tears that never left her eyes.
When she blinked, another tear slid down her temple. The first thing she saw was the white ceiling. Then, the sickening stench of sterility assaulted her nostrils before the beeping of the heart monitor echoed in her ears.
It was all a dream, after all, she thought.
Slowly, Lola raised her arm and rested it over her eyes. Her lips quivered as she bit them as hard as she could.
It was just a dream, but waking up to reality was no better. She didn’t have to wonder where she was. The scent, the sterile whiteness of the ceiling, and the beeping echoing in her ears were enough to tell. She was at the hospital, recuperating.
Healing the injuries she had suffered in the battle, from the debris of the explosion. But no amount of medicine or bandages could ever stop the bleeding in her heart.
"Damn it," she hissed through gritted teeth, her hands balling into fists until her entire body trembled. "Damn it."
The beeping quickened as her chest rose and fell. Soon, nurses rushed to her, only to see that she was already awake.
Lola could hear the footsteps and the voices, but she didn’t remove the arm covering her eyes. She simply let them check on her like she was a doll. None of them moved her arm away, as if they knew they didn’t have to.
"She’s... she’s stable," came a voice in the room, the doctor turning to Allen. "Madam Zorken will be fine... physically. But we’ll still need her on an IV for dehydration and the painkillers..."
Allen listened intently before glancing at Lola, who hadn’t moved an inch. When he faced the doctor again, he smiled subtly.
"Thank you," he said. "Please give us a moment."
The doctor wanted to say more—perhaps request to speak with Allen privately—but set it aside since it leaned more toward a personal concern about Lola’s condition. He lowered his head and left with his team after ensuring her vitals were stable.
Once the door closed, Allen shifted his gaze to Lola. A deep exhale escaped him as he took a seat beside the bed. His lips parted a few times, but no words came out.
He tried to speak, but with the silence she exuded, he refrained. All he could do was hang his head low, listening to her muffled sniffles.
"I’ll come back later, Madam," he whispered after a minute.
She didn’t answer as expected.
With that, Allen walked away to give her privacy. But before leaving, he glanced back at her and sighed heavily before stepping out.
From what Allen had heard, when Lola realized Atlas didn’t make it out of the building, she had tried to go back in. Fortunately, Izu and Scarlet were with her and stopped her from making a reckless move. But since she could do nothing but cry, she eventually fainted when she could barely breathe.
Izu carried her on his back, even while limping. That was how she ended up in this hospital, still within the church’s territory.
After all, the Order had seized control not only of the holy grounds but of their entire territory. Hence, all the injured were being treated here, with the Order’s experts working alongside the local doctors.
"How is she?"
Allen halted as soon as he closed the door behind him. When he lifted his eyes, he met Scarlet’s.
His lips pressed into a thin line as he shook his head. His wordless answer made her lower her gaze as she exhaled faintly.
"How’s the situation?" he asked, changing the subject.
"Our people are still extinguishing the fires. With everyone’s help, they should put everything out and make sure there are no bombs left," she reported, referring to the forces from the other founding families.
Atlas wasn’t the only one buried in the holy grounds. The rest of the leaders from the other families were there too, except Henrik. Even he was helping, sending every resource he could to hasten recovery efforts.
It hadn’t been a full day, but they couldn’t afford to waste a second.
"I see," Allen nodded. "Go back to the site, Scar. I’ll check on Miss Kiara and see Miss Penny. She just arrived, after all."
Scarlet nodded, and with that, they parted ways.

Meanwhile, Lola cried and cried, keeping her arm over her eyes for who knows how long. Even when her tears dried up—as if she could shed no more—she remained in that position.
When she finally removed her arm, her vision was even blurrier than before. She stared at the ceiling, lips pressed into a thin line, her neck taut.
If I die... you have to do your best to be with our children. Don’t make them lose another parent, okay?
Those were the words she once said to Atlas after he woke from a nightmare in which she died.
Who would have thought those words would return to haunt her?
She bit her lip as fresh tears welled up. She swallowed hard, breathing out heavily.
"You jerk," she whispered. "You promised."
He had promised to live. He had promised to stay with her and grow old together. Atlas had promised her many things.
Even if he broke everything else, as long as he kept the first promise, she wouldn’t have asked for much.
"Second," she whispered. "Chacha."
What would you do if you were in my shoes, Atlas?
She closed her eyes and drew a deep breath, balling her hands into tight fists. When she reopened them, she nodded to herself.
I didn’t cry because I couldn’t. How could I, when it was my heart that I buried?
Lola... this time, I finished the dream. And I... burned the entire secret society.
Slowly, Lola opened her eyes, her lips pressed into a thin line.
"That’s... that’s what he would do," she whispered. "My Atlas... would not cry like this immediately. That’s just who he was."
