Chapter 799: I Loathe You Very Much

"May God bless us all."

"You—" Draken’s eyes dilated as he tried to pull his feet free, but because his spar with Baby had been intense, he only winced in pain.

Before he could even think further, Atlas had already risen from his seat and strode toward the cardinal. The latter remained seated, wearing a small yet irritating smirk.

And somehow, seeing it up close, all Atlas saw was red.

Reaching out, he grabbed the cardinal’s robe in his fist, ready to strike. Before anyone could react, Atlas’s fist crashed into the cardinal’s cheek.

Tak!

Tak!

Tak!

His knuckles slammed into the cardinal’s face again and again without pause. He didn’t even blink—he just kept raising his fist and bringing it down, leaving everyone stunned. The cardinal tried to defend himself after the second strike, but to no avail.

"Atlas!" Marceline’s voice rang through the room, stopping him mid-punch. "That’s enough."

Her heart pounded as she stared at his side profile. His head was slightly tilted downward, and shadows covered most of his face. His pupils were constricted, his eyes barely blinking as he beat the cardinal’s face into a pulp.

"He’s passed out," she breathed. "We have to leave. We don’t have time."

Atlas blinked and turned his head, seeing the shock on Marceline’s face and the confusion on Draken’s. Worry was etched across the elder’s features, while Iris’s expression remained blank.

For a second, he had lost his mind.

Surely, the cardinal had pressed every button to piss him off, not just with what he had said, but with everything he had done.

These people would never understand. It wasn’t them who had been manipulated and lost loved ones. They didn’t have to live two lifetimes like Penny, Slater, Finn, Zoren, and Lola to understand that kind of pain.

Just knowing what his family had gone through—and how he had foolishly contributed to their suffering—was devastating enough. Deep down, Atlas didn’t want to remember his previous life.

His siblings were wrong.

Their eldest brother was not always right, nor was he excellent. In his own eyes, he was a pathetic older brother who deserved none of the kindness, forgiveness, or love his family gave him. He was a coward who had secretly felt relieved that he couldn’t remember his past life.

But...

Pathetic as he might be, he had pledged to use this lifetime—his entire life—to protect his family. To love his wife and children, to ensure that his siblings would live in peace, and for his parents not to worry anymore.

And he refused to die. Not tonight. Not at the hands of these people.

If he died, he would only cause his family more pain than he already had.

Checking the cardinal’s robe, Atlas retrieved a set of keys and tossed them onto the table. They slid toward Draken.

"Find your key and unlock Marceline’s," he ordered before rushing to untie the elders. The cardinal, meanwhile, slumped sideways onto the floor with a heavy thud.

Draken grabbed the keys and tossed them to Marceline. "Find yours first."

"Huh?"

"I just had an idea—I’m an idiot!" he roared as he bent down, reaching for the hook fastened to his foot. "My legs are in horrible pain because of that brat, but my hands..."

Gripping the hook, Draken pulled with brute force. Marceline’s eyes widened as she looked down and saw the floor beginning to crack.

"Hah," she exhaled with a laugh. "At least you admitted you lack something in that head of yours... in case we end up buried alive down here."

While Draken continued using brute force, Marceline tried different keys to unlock her restraints.

Meanwhile, Atlas freed one elder and quickly moved to the next. But just as he untied the second, they all froze at Iris’s piercing scream.

"No!!" Iris stumbled away from the table, gripping a pistol with trembling hands. "No! You—you can’t leave!"

"Ugh..." Draken didn’t even spare her a glance as he continued pulling, nearly freeing himself without a key.

Seeing that, Iris aimed the handgun at him.

"I said stop!" she screamed, but he ignored her—too focused on exerting strength. "I said stop!"

BANG!

Out of panic, Iris pulled the trigger. But at the same moment, something struck her hand, causing the bullet to hit the wall instead. The pistol flew from her grasp and skidded across the floor.

"Huh?" Iris paled as she watched it slide away, only to see Atlas stride toward it and pick it up.

Her lips trembled as she noticed the keys near her feet, but Marceline’s voice cut in before she could move.

"Young lady," Marceline said as she slowly rose from her seat, "I don’t know what the cardinal fed you to manipulate you like this. If you want to die here, then die. But don’t try to stop us."

"Ugh!!"

Finally, Draken tore himself free, though the chains still hung loosely from his ankle. When he turned toward them, he saw Iris collapse onto the floor with a loud thud.

"Huh?" he blinked. "What’s wrong with her?"

"Nothing." Marceline shot him a look. "Draken, let’s go. You first."

"Why me?" he frowned.

She shrugged. "In case a bullet comes flying the moment we open that door, our shield is big."

"I... loathe you very much, Marceline," he clicked his tongue before glancing at the elders. "I’ll carry them first."

"I’ll lead. I know the way out," Atlas said, already pressing his ear against the door before opening it cautiously.

As expected, the hallway was empty. The cardinal had likely sent his elite guards to deal with the forces trying to break in, buying himself time.

Atlas glanced back. Draken was carrying one elder on his back, while Marceline supported the other. It was a sight no one would believe if he described it, but he didn’t dwell on that.

"It’s clear. Let’s go."

He stepped out first, assessing their surroundings and guiding the group forward.

As for Iris, they walked past her without another glance. Her entire body trembled on the floor. Even when she tried to push herself up, she couldn’t move.

"Why..." she whispered, shifting her gaze to the unconscious cardinal. After a second, adrenaline kicked in as she crawled toward the cardinal. "... cardinal, we have to go to that place! Please wake up!"
